"Who would have thought that I'd bump into you in a place like this? Well, what am I even saying? He's just a security guard. Janet turned to Bryan and they both giggled evilly. Arthur threw a glance at Nick who gave him a confusing look. "Do you know who they are?" Nick asked, still puzzled but Arthur shook his head.
"They're bad news and I don't want to waste my time on urchins like them?" Arthur retorted, causing Janet to flare up. "Hey, loser. Who are you calling bad news? Because you managed to get yourself a security job after I got you sacked. You're just a useless pauper and that is what you'll always be."
"Come on honey, let's not waste anymore of our precious time on this thief. Someone who can't even afford to buy good shoes." Bryan took Janet by the left hand while he carried a big shopping bag on the other hand.
However, Janet was not satisfied yet. She wanted to get Arthur to pay for calling them urchins. She unsealed the bottle of water on her hand and emptied half of it on Arthur before leaving with her boyfriend. "That's for insulting me and my boyfriend." Turning to her boyfriend, she said. "Let's go Bryan." The latter followed behind like a fool who had to be told what to do. They scurried away with an evil smirk on their face leaving Arthur drenched.
Some eyewitnesses who had witnessed the incident murmured among themselves.
"Wow! That security dude has just met his match. They can be so unreasonable demanding tips like you owe them money."
"I know right. Those church rats can be so annoying. I bet he was trying to get something out of the lady by pestering her. They forget that not everyone has the patience to put up with their silly attitude."
"Seriously, if it were me being pestered for a tip, I'd do more than she just did. How can they not know their place?"
Arthur had heard enough of the insults and belittling. He stared at Nick and the latter opened both his hands. "That's how some of them see us. Like beggars. But then, with the look of things, I'm sure you have a history with those two. What really happened?"
Arthur glanced at his drenched outfit and to Nick who quickly got the point. Arthur needed a change of clothes and Nick took him back to where he changed his clothes into a dry outfit. Putting up the wet ones to get dry.
"So, Nick. You were telling me something about the twin sisters, Anna and Hannah."
Nick gave him a questioning look. Really?
"On the contrary, I think it's you who has an explanation to give to me. What really happened out there? What did you do to those people that they hated you so much? I mean the hatred was so pronounced." Nick asked with furrowed brows.
Arthur scratched his head as his expression turned into a frown. Upon seeing that his mood had changed, Nick said to him, "You know you don't have to tell me anything if you don't want to. Moreover, I'm still a stranger to you. Maybe you can freely tell me when you've trusted me enough."
Arthur bit his lower lip and heaved a deep sigh. "Uhmm… Like I said before, they're bad news and talking about it would ruin my day. In fact, I don't want to go down that memory lane."
Nick gave an understanding nod. "It's fine. I'll be out to make my rounds. When you need anything, you know where to find me."
Arthur nodded his head. "Thank you."
"And about those twin sisters, it'll be a story for another day."
Arthur smiled at the man who strode towards the door and disappeared into it. Arthur hurriedly closed the door of the dressing room and brought out his phone to call Axel.
It was obvious that Axel and himself had planned out everything about his working as a security guard in his own mall. However, Carl was unaware of the whole ploy.
Ring Ring.
The phone rang twice but no one picked it up. Arthur was getting frustrated. Someone might want to come into the dressing room and realize that it was locked from inside. He also needed to go back to the position that was assigned for him to watch over.
Arthur decided to try one more time and Axel picked up. "Young master. How is everything going on your first day at work? I hope no one troubles you?" The man asked, concern etched in his voice.
"Axel, I'm getting pissed already even though I'm yet to resume my duty. Everyone I meet has been nothing but rude and belittling. Is that how these employees behave? I'm only being tolerant because I have a goal to achieve before revealing myself to them." Arthur complained bitterly.
Axel was speechless and first. However, he decided to give his suggestion. "I think you should be a little more patient until you achieve all you want. Don't worry, with this facade of yours, you'll be able to fish out the bad eggs."
"Yeah, you're right." Arthur said and let out a deep sigh. "I'll persist till I achieve my goal." He concluded.
"That's more like it."
With that, Arthur ended the call and hid back his special phone. If anyone was to find out about the phone, they'd raise eyebrows and level him a thief which will eventually cause him to blow his cover quickly.
Opening the door of the dressing room, he started towards the last floor of the building where he had been assigned to watch over.
Soon, the door of the elevator went open with Arthur coming out of it cautiously. Upon raising up his head his gaze fell on someone standing opposite the elevator door with a stern face. "Where the heck have you been?"
Arthur was taken aback with the question. He wasn't expecting to see one of the twins he had met earlier to start looking for him. He wasn't gone for that long. Or was he?"Uhmmm… Ma'am Anna. I… Uhmmm…" Arthur stuttered in his words which infuriated the lady. "Would you keep your mouth shut? And who's Anna? If you can't differentiate, then shut that trash you call a month. Do not jumble up our names again."Arthur nodded his head."Now tell me, where the heck have you been? You're yet to resume work and already missing in action."Arthur was without a word. He actually had no idea what to say. Should he tell the stern lady that he encountered his step brother and ex girlfriend who almost emptied a can of water on him? That's a bad excuse. "I went to use the restroom downstairs." Arthur found himself saying and Anna glared at him."Whatever.""Because it's your first day, I'll let this pass. If this happens again, I'll make sure you get sacked from here even if you're just starting."
"Why is the manager crying on the floor?" Harry directed his question to Morris who was still stupefied. "I'm asking you Morris, what is going on here?"Morris was still lost for the right words to explain what was going on. He was still trying to comprehend things. He has just been offered the position of the manager by Arthur, his ex colleague who was sacked the previous day. How come? What really happened?Ignoring the men, Arthur repeated what he said to Morris. "You are yet to answer my question Morris. Would you like to be the new manager?"Morris nodded his head. "Yes, Sir." It felt so stupid and awkward. What if Arthur was not in his right sense? No, It's not possible. He was here and witnessed what happened even though he was still confused. He saw when Arthur made a call and Frank received another that made him fall to Arthur's feet and started pleading. It couldn't possibly be a joke.Harry, who has had enough of the drama, yelled at the men. "What is going on here?" "You
Arthur quickly made for the dressing room where he changed into his uniform. He had just been dropped off by the previous night's taxi driver. Arthur had to keep a close contact with the man whom he had just made his undercover taxi driver.Getting the man to make a promise of keeping his identity was easy. He just threw a few wads of cash to silence him after somewhat threatening to make his life difficult if he were to ever blow his cover. However, the taxi driver made a promise on his own grave to be discreet about Arthur's identity."I'd be stupid to go against you by revealing your identity to the world." The man had said. Although, the identity he meant was that Arthur was a rich man pretending to be poor. He was yet to learn how he was related to Carl Ramon, the quadrillionaire businessman."Good." Arthur had responded and they both parted ways. Why would he want to disobey the man's order after earning some undeserved amount of Euros. An amount he couldn't possibly earn in a m
Jesse directed her question to Louis who paused in his tracks. "M… Ma'am, I'm going back to my duty post." He stuttered in his words. However, Jesse kept glaring at him with her brows arched. "I went to get something from the dressing room." He continued and Jesse could not help but sneer at him.Arthur just stood there without a word. He was wondering why Jesse was acting so unfriendly towards Louis. Jesse started towards Louis, stopping right before him. "You."Louis bowed his head, refusing to have any eyes contact with the lady before him who looked infuriated."I've heard so much complaints of your misconduct from your colleagues. I didn't want to believe it because I believe in a fair trial. I wanted to be sure that they weren't all lying against you. However, I've seen with my own eyes that all they say about you is the truth. You are indeed a brat and a bully. Take this as your last warning. If I hear anymore mishaps that you are involved in, then, I'll have no choice but to
Arthur's heart skipped as the man brought out his phone. His thoughts reverted to the incident at the hotel. Has his identity been revealed?Hastily, Arthur snatched the phone from Nick's hands causing the man to cast him a confusing look. Is he ok?Paying no heed to Nick, Arthur watched a video of two men running after a young man and pleading that he gave them another chance. The men who were pleading seemed to have been sacked and was asking a poorly dressed man to forgive them.Arthur recognized the men. They were Frank and Harry while it was him hurrying away with a newspaper concealing his face. It was a newspaper that he took at the reception area where he sat before he was approached by Frank and Harry. He was happy to be in possession of the paper as it helped shield his face from those cameras.Tilting the phone so Nick could see the video again, Arthur asked. "Ummm… Why do you think I should have a look? I don't really understand what was going on there."Arthur feigned ign
Arthur was stunned at the response of the taxi driver. Really? How could he just ditch the man when he needed his services? To think that the man had become part of his undercover mission. Letting out a chuckle, he replied. "I'm waiting for you at the mall. Remember our agreement. No one must know about this. If you keep your end of the deal and not run your mouth, you'd be duly compensated.""Right Sir. I got your point clearly and can assure you that your secret is very safe with me.""Good."Arthur ended the call and made towards the exit door. His shift normally ends at 3pm and another security guard takes his place. Arthur was very ok with the morning shift. It meant that he'll have the rest of the day to do his other businesses. He has to keep an eye at the hotel and make sure Morris does a good job.The guy had been good to him for the two years they had worked together. It was why he gave him that huge responsibility. However, he needed to be sure that Morris was capable and t
Swiftly, Arthur took out his phone and made a call across to the hotel's CEO, Mr Mike. It was Axel who gave the man Arthur's real identity. The man had come in the previous night and came to work that day. However, he never parades himself around the hotel. That was the job of the manager. To supervise the activities of all the staff members. That was a huge responsibility. The CEO was mostly in his office watching what was going on in the place through the CCTV camera. As soon as he got the call from Arthur, he hastily summoned the staff members who converged at the conference hall. However, not all the staff had to leave their duty post since they had guests to attend to. A few stayed behind and would be learning about what transpired from those who had attended the emergency meeting. While Arthur made his way to the CEO's office to watch the show from there. The man stood before the staff members and addressed them."Good evening everyone. I'm sorry to have disrupted you from your
That was the moment Arthur wanted to see. It was interesting to see the downtrodden person lifted above everyone else. That was his case by that time two days ago, when he just learned about his mother's family. He was at his lowest and all of a sudden, he was made the highest. That feeling was out of the world. He could imagine how it was for Morris. He saw Mike beckon on him to come address the other staff who were still stunned where they stood. His job was done so he left the CEO's office and started towards the manager's office where he waited for the new manager. Not long after, the door was flung open and Morris walked into it. Upon seeing Arthur seated at the manager's swivel chair, Morris fell on his feet and thanked Arthur."Thank you so much Sir for this great opportunity you have given to me. I promise to put in my best. I know it's all new to me. However, I'll never let you down."Arthur didn't say a word. He just stood up from the chair and helped Morris up. "I believe I
