"Who would have thought that I'd bump into you in a place like this? Well, what am I even saying? He's just a security guard. Janet turned to Bryan and they both giggled evilly. Arthur threw a glance at Nick who gave him a confusing look. "Do you know who they are?" Nick asked, still puzzled but Arthur shook his head.
"They're bad news and I don't want to waste my time on urchins like them?" Arthur retorted, causing Janet to flare up. "Hey, loser. Who are you calling bad news? Because you managed to get yourself a security job after I got you sacked. You're just a useless pauper and that is what you'll always be."
"Come on honey, let's not waste anymore of our precious time on this thief. Someone who can't even afford to buy good shoes." Bryan took Janet by the left hand while he carried a big shopping bag on the other hand.
However, Janet was not satisfied yet. She wanted to get Arthur to pay for calling them urchins. She unsealed the bottle of water on her hand and emptied half of it on Arthur before leaving with her boyfriend. "That's for insulting me and my boyfriend." Turning to her boyfriend, she said. "Let's go Bryan." The latter followed behind like a fool who had to be told what to do. They scurried away with an evil smirk on their face leaving Arthur drenched.
Some eyewitnesses who had witnessed the incident murmured among themselves.
"Wow! That security dude has just met his match. They can be so unreasonable demanding tips like you owe them money."
"I know right. Those church rats can be so annoying. I bet he was trying to get something out of the lady by pestering her. They forget that not everyone has the patience to put up with their silly attitude."
"Seriously, if it were me being pestered for a tip, I'd do more than she just did. How can they not know their place?"
Arthur had heard enough of the insults and belittling. He stared at Nick and the latter opened both his hands. "That's how some of them see us. Like beggars. But then, with the look of things, I'm sure you have a history with those two. What really happened?"
Arthur glanced at his drenched outfit and to Nick who quickly got the point. Arthur needed a change of clothes and Nick took him back to where he changed his clothes into a dry outfit. Putting up the wet ones to get dry.
"So, Nick. You were telling me something about the twin sisters, Anna and Hannah."
Nick gave him a questioning look. Really?
"On the contrary, I think it's you who has an explanation to give to me. What really happened out there? What did you do to those people that they hated you so much? I mean the hatred was so pronounced." Nick asked with furrowed brows.
Arthur scratched his head as his expression turned into a frown. Upon seeing that his mood had changed, Nick said to him, "You know you don't have to tell me anything if you don't want to. Moreover, I'm still a stranger to you. Maybe you can freely tell me when you've trusted me enough."
Arthur bit his lower lip and heaved a deep sigh. "Uhmm… Like I said before, they're bad news and talking about it would ruin my day. In fact, I don't want to go down that memory lane."
Nick gave an understanding nod. "It's fine. I'll be out to make my rounds. When you need anything, you know where to find me."
Arthur nodded his head. "Thank you."
"And about those twin sisters, it'll be a story for another day."
Arthur smiled at the man who strode towards the door and disappeared into it. Arthur hurriedly closed the door of the dressing room and brought out his phone to call Axel.
It was obvious that Axel and himself had planned out everything about his working as a security guard in his own mall. However, Carl was unaware of the whole ploy.
Ring Ring.
The phone rang twice but no one picked it up. Arthur was getting frustrated. Someone might want to come into the dressing room and realize that it was locked from inside. He also needed to go back to the position that was assigned for him to watch over.
Arthur decided to try one more time and Axel picked up. "Young master. How is everything going on your first day at work? I hope no one troubles you?" The man asked, concern etched in his voice.
"Axel, I'm getting pissed already even though I'm yet to resume my duty. Everyone I meet has been nothing but rude and belittling. Is that how these employees behave? I'm only being tolerant because I have a goal to achieve before revealing myself to them." Arthur complained bitterly.
Axel was speechless and first. However, he decided to give his suggestion. "I think you should be a little more patient until you achieve all you want. Don't worry, with this facade of yours, you'll be able to fish out the bad eggs."
"Yeah, you're right." Arthur said and let out a deep sigh. "I'll persist till I achieve my goal." He concluded.
"That's more like it."
With that, Arthur ended the call and hid back his special phone. If anyone was to find out about the phone, they'd raise eyebrows and level him a thief which will eventually cause him to blow his cover quickly.
Opening the door of the dressing room, he started towards the last floor of the building where he had been assigned to watch over.
Soon, the door of the elevator went open with Arthur coming out of it cautiously. Upon raising up his head his gaze fell on someone standing opposite the elevator door with a stern face. "Where the heck have you been?"
Arthur was taken aback with the question. He wasn't expecting to see one of the twins he had met earlier to start looking for him. He wasn't gone for that long. Or was he?"Uhmmm… Ma'am Anna. I… Uhmmm…" Arthur stuttered in his words which infuriated the lady. "Would you keep your mouth shut? And who's Anna? If you can't differentiate, then shut that trash you call a month. Do not jumble up our names again."Arthur nodded his head."Now tell me, where the heck have you been? You're yet to resume work and already missing in action."Arthur was without a word. He actually had no idea what to say. Should he tell the stern lady that he encountered his step brother and ex girlfriend who almost emptied a can of water on him? That's a bad excuse. "I went to use the restroom downstairs." Arthur found himself saying and Anna glared at him."Whatever.""Because it's your first day, I'll let this pass. If this happens again, I'll make sure you get sacked from here even if you're just starting."
"Why is the manager crying on the floor?" Harry directed his question to Morris who was still stupefied. "I'm asking you Morris, what is going on here?"Morris was still lost for the right words to explain what was going on. He was still trying to comprehend things. He has just been offered the position of the manager by Arthur, his ex colleague who was sacked the previous day. How come? What really happened?Ignoring the men, Arthur repeated what he said to Morris. "You are yet to answer my question Morris. Would you like to be the new manager?"Morris nodded his head. "Yes, Sir." It felt so stupid and awkward. What if Arthur was not in his right sense? No, It's not possible. He was here and witnessed what happened even though he was still confused. He saw when Arthur made a call and Frank received another that made him fall to Arthur's feet and started pleading. It couldn't possibly be a joke.Harry, who has had enough of the drama, yelled at the men. "What is going on here?" "You
Arthur quickly made for the dressing room where he changed into his uniform. He had just been dropped off by the previous night's taxi driver. Arthur had to keep a close contact with the man whom he had just made his undercover taxi driver.Getting the man to make a promise of keeping his identity was easy. He just threw a few wads of cash to silence him after somewhat threatening to make his life difficult if he were to ever blow his cover. However, the taxi driver made a promise on his own grave to be discreet about Arthur's identity."I'd be stupid to go against you by revealing your identity to the world." The man had said. Although, the identity he meant was that Arthur was a rich man pretending to be poor. He was yet to learn how he was related to Carl Ramon, the quadrillionaire businessman."Good." Arthur had responded and they both parted ways. Why would he want to disobey the man's order after earning some undeserved amount of Euros. An amount he couldn't possibly earn in a m
Jesse directed her question to Louis who paused in his tracks. "M… Ma'am, I'm going back to my duty post." He stuttered in his words. However, Jesse kept glaring at him with her brows arched. "I went to get something from the dressing room." He continued and Jesse could not help but sneer at him.Arthur just stood there without a word. He was wondering why Jesse was acting so unfriendly towards Louis. Jesse started towards Louis, stopping right before him. "You."Louis bowed his head, refusing to have any eyes contact with the lady before him who looked infuriated."I've heard so much complaints of your misconduct from your colleagues. I didn't want to believe it because I believe in a fair trial. I wanted to be sure that they weren't all lying against you. However, I've seen with my own eyes that all they say about you is the truth. You are indeed a brat and a bully. Take this as your last warning. If I hear anymore mishaps that you are involved in, then, I'll have no choice but to
Arthur's heart skipped as the man brought out his phone. His thoughts reverted to the incident at the hotel. Has his identity been revealed?Hastily, Arthur snatched the phone from Nick's hands causing the man to cast him a confusing look. Is he ok?Paying no heed to Nick, Arthur watched a video of two men running after a young man and pleading that he gave them another chance. The men who were pleading seemed to have been sacked and was asking a poorly dressed man to forgive them.Arthur recognized the men. They were Frank and Harry while it was him hurrying away with a newspaper concealing his face. It was a newspaper that he took at the reception area where he sat before he was approached by Frank and Harry. He was happy to be in possession of the paper as it helped shield his face from those cameras.Tilting the phone so Nick could see the video again, Arthur asked. "Ummm… Why do you think I should have a look? I don't really understand what was going on there."Arthur feigned ign
Arthur was stunned at the response of the taxi driver. Really? How could he just ditch the man when he needed his services? To think that the man had become part of his undercover mission. Letting out a chuckle, he replied. "I'm waiting for you at the mall. Remember our agreement. No one must know about this. If you keep your end of the deal and not run your mouth, you'd be duly compensated.""Right Sir. I got your point clearly and can assure you that your secret is very safe with me.""Good."Arthur ended the call and made towards the exit door. His shift normally ends at 3pm and another security guard takes his place. Arthur was very ok with the morning shift. It meant that he'll have the rest of the day to do his other businesses. He has to keep an eye at the hotel and make sure Morris does a good job.The guy had been good to him for the two years they had worked together. It was why he gave him that huge responsibility. However, he needed to be sure that Morris was capable and t
Swiftly, Arthur took out his phone and made a call across to the hotel's CEO, Mr Mike. It was Axel who gave the man Arthur's real identity. The man had come in the previous night and came to work that day. However, he never parades himself around the hotel. That was the job of the manager. To supervise the activities of all the staff members. That was a huge responsibility. The CEO was mostly in his office watching what was going on in the place through the CCTV camera. As soon as he got the call from Arthur, he hastily summoned the staff members who converged at the conference hall. However, not all the staff had to leave their duty post since they had guests to attend to. A few stayed behind and would be learning about what transpired from those who had attended the emergency meeting. While Arthur made his way to the CEO's office to watch the show from there. The man stood before the staff members and addressed them."Good evening everyone. I'm sorry to have disrupted you from your
That was the moment Arthur wanted to see. It was interesting to see the downtrodden person lifted above everyone else. That was his case by that time two days ago, when he just learned about his mother's family. He was at his lowest and all of a sudden, he was made the highest. That feeling was out of the world. He could imagine how it was for Morris. He saw Mike beckon on him to come address the other staff who were still stunned where they stood. His job was done so he left the CEO's office and started towards the manager's office where he waited for the new manager. Not long after, the door was flung open and Morris walked into it. Upon seeing Arthur seated at the manager's swivel chair, Morris fell on his feet and thanked Arthur."Thank you so much Sir for this great opportunity you have given to me. I promise to put in my best. I know it's all new to me. However, I'll never let you down."Arthur didn't say a word. He just stood up from the chair and helped Morris up. "I believe I
“Dad?”Arthur could not help but to panic when Gregg suddenly went mute. He had just said something to Bryan. Why was he not speaking again?Tilting himself, he reached out and began to shake his father. “Dad?”“Doctor, please find out what is wrong with my Dad. He's no longer moving.”Swiftly, the doctor went ahead to check Gregg's vitals while Arthur turned to glare at Bryan. He was praying in his heart and hoping that nothing happens to his father. After about a minute, the doctor lifted himself and turned to them with a very sad face. “I think we should take my dad to the hospital.” Arthur suggested even before the doctor was able to say something. He beckoned on Kimora and the guards to come and carry Gregg. However, the doctor stopped him.“There won't be any need for that because your Dad is gone. He's dead.”“No.” Arthur screamed and fell on his father's body, shaking it vigorously.“Dad, no. Please don't do this to me. Wake up and talk to me.”Bryan, who was kneeling on the
With a stunned look, Arthur rushed towards his father. He tilted himself and tried to lift Gregg's face which was not visible to him. “Dad?”That moment when his father did not open his eyes, Arthur's heart began to pound hard. He thought that Gregg was dead.Turning to face Kimora, Arthur asked him with a raised voice. “What happened to him? I thought you said that he wanted to see me.”“Yes, that's what he said to me a while ago. Maybe he slept off before you came.”Without wasting any more time, Arthur checked Gregg and saw that he still had a pulse before he began to shake him. “Dad, wake up.” “Kimora, call the doctor immediately. I think my Dad's not well.”While he was vigorously shaking his father, the man gradually opened his eyes and called out his name.“Arthur, you're here.”“Oh, Dad. You scared me. Are you okay?” Arthur let out a deep sigh as he kept gaping at his father. He tried to help him sit up but Gregg refused. “I'm ok this way.”“Are you sure?”“Yeah, I'm sure. I
Jesse stood up and started towards the door but Nick didn't follow him. He was still so dumbfounded.Dazed, he kept staring intently at Arthur and also at the sisters.“Um, Sir….. Do you mean, uh… Did you just promote me as the new manager of this great organization?”With a smile that reached his eyes, Arthur nodded at him. “Yeah, I just did that. You're now the manager of this organization and I hope you'll not disappoint.”Placing his left hand on his mouth, Nick let out a gasp. “Oh my God. Wow!” Out of impulse, he fell on the ground and began to thank Arthur. “Thank you so much Sir. This is really unbelievable.”“Thank you, Thank you Sir.” Nick kept appreciating him. He could not also get himself to address him as Arthur after what he had just done for him.Arthur has changed his status. From a mall guard to a manager. It was indeed a very huge elevation.“It's ok Nick, stand up. You don't have to fall on the ground to show your appreciation. I can already see how grateful you ar
They were her ex boyfriend and ex friend, Anderson and Michael. The duo came to shop at the mall when they saw the media hovering around some people. The couple decided to find out what was going on. It was then that they saw Jesse and her sister standing alongside some rich young guy who just announced himself as a rich heir.Once their eyes met with each other, Jesse smiled and raised her brows at them before clinging tightly onto Arthur's arm. She no longer cared about the multiple cameras before her face. At the moment, she just wanted her ex friend and ex boyfriend to feel envious of her. When Arthur was no longer interested in replying to their numerous questions, he turned around and began to walk into the mall together with Jesse and Jenny. As they made their way into the mall, the journalists wanted to follow after them but were stopped by the bodyguards and the other security guards.Anderson and Michael could not get themselves to go into the mall as they stood back outside
“But I didn't ask you to kidnap anyone. I didn't ask you to commit a crime. Why did you have to kidnap Arthur's girlfriend? You should have….”“That's enough mom.” Janet replied with her voice raised as she turned around and faced her mother. Her raised voice distracted the others and an officer came to give her a stern warning. When the police officer left, Janet let out a deep sigh before saying to her mother. “It was all your fault, Mom. You pushed me into doing what I did. If you were ever a good mother, I would not have turned out like this and ended up here.”After glaring at her mother one last time, Janet snorted at her. “Just get me a good lawyer. That's the only help you can offer right now.”Stella was about to say something when a policeman came to meet them. “Ma'am, you should leave now. You've had enough time with her. Just go and get a lawyer because she'll be charged to court soon.”Without another word, Stella turned around and left the place to get a good lawyer.Des
“Please, have pity on my daughter.” Stella's voice was heard as she ran towards them and fell on her knees before Arthur.“Please, forgive Janet. I promise that she'll never do anything like this again.”Stella, Janet's mother, had been informed of her daughter's current predicament. She was also informed of her actions that led to her arrest so she hurried to the station.Even though she pushed Janet into such action, she never asked her daughter to commit a crime just to get money. However, she also took some blame. She had not been a good mother but Janet was still her daughter and she loves her dearly.“Arthur, for old times sake, please don't send my daughter to jail.”The trio watched the woman with disdain and exchanged glances. They said nothing at first. Turning to Jesse, Stella held onto her legs. “Ma'am, I understand that you're the victim. But please forgive my daughter and talk to your boyfriend. I promise you that nothing like this will ever happen again, I'll make sure
Swiftly, he took out his phone to pick the call. It was from the police and they had found Jesse.Jenny watched in anticipation as Arthur answered the call. She was even distracting his conversations with the police.“Is that the police? I hope they have good news this time?” Although from Arthur's tone, she could deduce that it was the news she had been anticipating.Arthur raised a finger at her and she stopped disrupting his call. However, she was already pacing the place in restlessness.“Ok, we'll be on our way.” With so much delight, Arthur turned to Jenny and nodded at her. “Jesse's has been found. I told you that the police will find her.”“Wow! That's great. Come on, let's go meet her. In fact, I need you to put a call through to that number which just called and let them give the phone to Jesse.”Jenny had started walking towards the car but stopped in her tracks to talk to Arthur.“Hurry up and dial the number. I want to speak with Jesse to find out how she's doing. I hope
“Please, just go back home and let us do our job. We understand that you're trying to help. However, the best way you can help now is by not getting involved so as not to escalate the whole situation.”After a long pause, Arthur nodded at the policemen and instructed Dario.“Please drive back home.”“Right away Sir.”The officers drove away from there while Dario turned to the direction leading to Arthur's home.Meanwhile, the policemen that had been following Janet were surprised to see her pull over at her mother's coffee shop. From where they were watching, they saw her alight from the car and started towards the door of the shop. They had thought that she had other places to go. After waiting fruitlessly for some time, one of the men stylishly went closer to her car and placed a tracker on it. After that, they left the place. The police were certain that Janet knew about their presence which was why she stayed put at the coffee shop. After successfully placing the tracking device
Arthur stood speechless at a spot. He could not believe that Jenny was blaming him for Jesse's kidnap. She was even calling Janet his girlfriend.“She's not my girlfriend and will never be one. Jesse is the only woman I love.” Arthur spoke to the retreating figures of the ladies. However, no one replied to him.Once Jenny was out of sight, he took out his phone to make a few calls. He also contacted Axel to make the necessary arrangements for Benita's education. He had already made the promise to the girl and won't go back on it.After forcing himself to eat something, Arthur tried to plead with Jenny to eat. However, she was able to come out of the room after much persuasion.“Please, come and eat something.”“Have you heard from the police?” Jenny asked Arthur with a serious face, she was already looking sick from getting worried for her sister's safety.“Nothing yet.” Arthur replied with his eyes glued to hers. “Please, eat something first so you can have the energy to worry about
