Gabriel enjoyed feeling Lily’s lips on his after a long time, but his heart ached so much that he knew he had to save himself the last bit of respect he had left in the world, so he gently pulled her away from him.

“Gabriel, please accept my apologies; none of those things I said were intended.”

When she said this, Gabriel averted his gaze, knowing she was only trying to blackmail him.

“Lily, please do not start this now. There are many people at this party, and I do not want to start a fucking fight.”

She scoffed as he said this.

Gabriel was about to speak when he noticed Maureen entering the hall with a group of men, her brow wrinkled and her body soaked. He sighed inwardly, wondering what the universe had in store for him, and he knew if he did not attend to Maureen, his father would be furious.

“Excuse me,” he said, brushing Lily aside and approaching Maureen.

When Lily spotted Maureen, she dug herself deeper into the crowd and headed for another exit.
