Barrett and Rose walked from the company. Rose could not help but gaze at him in surprise. The incident made his face black.
Rose tried to break the silence, but her comments might sound pointless because of her old boss’s dilemma.
“Boss, do you really think this is the best option?” Rose asked.
“It’s not like I have many other options, Rose,” he said with a forced smile. “Only then could treatment begin. I sold what remained. Without money, the company couldn’t survive. Therefore selling the trucks and building was the best option.”
With Barrett’s burden on his shoulders, she couldn’t imagine what decisions he would make. Perhaps, selling the company was the wisest choice.
“All that was in your wife’s name. Is it really okay to sell all that?” Rose asked, frowning.
Barrett paused before he looked at the building behind them.
“They’re his daughters too... so yeah, it’s fine,” Barrett said. He took a deep breath and looked at Rose with a smile, “Relax. I negotiated with the buyer and drivers. Six more months. You won’t be unemployed.”
“Even at a time like this, you care about me. That’s incredible, boss,” Rose remarked, feeling bad. She has worked and won’t struggle. Barrett won’t be the same.
He nodded and said, “Take care of yourself. I need to go to the hospital!”
“Barrett, if you need anything, to watch your daughter, a place to sleep, etc., call me. Okay?” Rose said sincerely.
He waved goodbye without looking back. Knowing he could count on someone was comforting.
However, at that time, only money could help.
In the hospital, he saw his daughter sitting in a chair right in front of her sister’s room.
“Honey, what are you doing here?” Barrett knelt before Melanie.
“Mommy said she had to look for something, that I would stay here, and that she would return,” Melanie replied sleepily.
Barrett was furious. His wife frustrated him. Who knew how long Melanie had been waiting there?
“What’s that, sweetie?” Barrett asked when he noticed that Melanie had an envelope behind her.
“I don’t know. Mommy told me to give it to you, that you would know what it was,” Melanie said after grabbing it from her back.
Barrett took the envelope. The content made him angry. He tightened his fists to control his temper. When Barrett saw the doctor, he called Claudia.
“Can you go and hold your sister’s hand, honey? She can listen to you. Tell her that she will be fine,” Barrett softly told Melanie.
Melanie nodded, then she jumped up and entered her sister’s room.
“Doc, I made a deposit. Did you see it?” Barrett politely asked the doctor.
The doctor nodded and said, “Indeed. I noticed. It covers a month of treatment. But it’s still long treatment, Mr. Barrett.”
Barrett nodded and said, “I know, and I will, don’t worry.”
“I know this is difficult, I would really like to tell you that there is another way, but I can’t. But there is always hope. Don’t lose it,” the doctor said, patting his shoulder lightly, then the doctor departed.
Barrett looked at the papers in his hand with a strange expression. He took his phone and called Rose.
“Hey, Boss! I knew you couldn’t spend too long away from me, boss. Tell me what you need,” Rose seriously said.
Barrett sighed and said, “I know this is too much to ask, but I need your help...”
“What do you need me to do?” Rose asked.
“That you take care of my girls for a couple of hours? I need to do something. It is important. Is that alright?” Barrett softly asked.
“No problem. Giving me two hours with the beauty of your daughters is a favor you do to me,” Rose assured.
Rose would arrive in 20 minutes. Really appreciated Rose’s help.
When she arrived, he gave Rose a hug that made her blush.
“Rose will stay with you for a couple of hours. Daddy is going to look for Mommy, okay?” He softly said to Melanie as he rubbed his daughter’s head.
The girl nodded with a smile. Barrett thanked Rose.
Barrett left the hospital, and after 30 minutes, he arrived at a Mansion.
“I’m sorry, Mr! There is a meeting there. You can’t enter!” The man firmly said after approaching him.
Barrett frowned, “My wife is in there—”
“You can’t pass,” the man shook his head, then he tried to grab him. “Leave!”
Before he could, Barrett seized his elbow and twisted it, causing him to cry in pain and kneel down.
“Mother-fu***r!”
Just then, another man tried to attack Barrett.
“Try, and you will be like him!” Barrett yelled, which stopped the man. “Help your friend, and it’s just dislocated!”
Barrett then ran to the mansion’s gate.
There was a huge party. Everyone was celebrating. He looked at the wealthy people congratulating each other on their wonderful lives. Seeing them reminded him of his daughter in the hospital.
The dark voice within him was yelling that they should all suffer. His desire is to destroy everyone but slowly controlling himself. Then he noticed Claudia in a bright outfit that enhanced her skin tone.
“Your daughter is in the hospital, and you here, wasting time! What do you think you’re doing?” Barrett yelled as he approached her quickly.
Claudia turned in his direction. She looked calm, which characterized wealthy people.
“You didn’t have to come, just sign the papers, and everyone will be fine.” She coldly looked at him, from top to bottom.
Claudia’s words could almost break Barrett’s mind. He glanced at the whispering onlookers. He then opened the envelope.
Claudia was giving him a warning gaze, but he ignored it and started reading her note.
“Barrett, this was a mistake from the beginning. It is better that we go on separate paths. Sign the divorce papers and forget that I existed!”
After reading, Barrett spat out. She glanced at him coldly and nodded to confirm everything written on it.
After throwing it on the floor, he approached her.
“Don’t get any closer! You are a dangerous man!” Claudia yelled, stepping back.
Barrett stopped in his tracks. Okay. She was correct on that one, and he could not refute it.
“And your daughters, you stupid c*nt? Will you also forget them? Will you forget that one is dying at the hospital?” He questioned, glaring at her.
Everyone looked at Barrett. Just then, the security arrived.
“I couldn’t take my daughter the first time. Won’t you let her come back?” An elderly man with white hair asked.
Barrett trembled in anger. He glared at the old man and said screamed at the top of his lungs, “She’s abandoning her daughters!! She robbed all my money, which was supposed to save her! You want her to die?!! What kind of people are you!?”
“What kind of man are you? You come here to shout that they stole your money and swear that your daughter is in the hospital... You have no pride?” Someone questioned.
Barrett glanced at whoever and saw a young man with a tiny mustache and straight hair. He walked towards him to crush his face, but the old man appeared in front of him.
“Perhaps you want to die today. Do you want it to be here or in jail?” The old man said. “You are trespassing, and we can call the police!”
The old man really knew where to attack. Police would really put Barrett in a very tight spot.
Because of that, when the guards approached, Barrett let them grab him and dragged him out.
“Claudia, what are you doing? Please, don’t do this are your daughters... Please!” Barrett yelled.
Claudia frowned. She looked at the man with the mustache and said something.
“Wait!” The man suddenly said with a smile. “My fiancée has a heart of gold.”
“Fiancée?” Barrett questioned, looking at Claudia, who avoided his gaze.
“Listen, friend... If you sign the papers in the envelope and apologize, we will not present charges to the police. Maybe we can help you with the money for your daughter as well,” the man said.
Barrett looked at him and, with a rush, took the papers. The man in a suit threw a pen to the floor that Barrett took. He signed on it quickly.
“Here, I am very sorry. Please help my daughter!”
“We will give you the help fund of my company. There are five thousand dollars. With that, it will be enough...” The man replied mockingly.
Barrett lost his reason. He was fooled!
He was about to attack the man, but the guards started threatening him with the police.
“Claudia, return my money, please. I need it. Claudia, I beg you!! She is your daughter!!” Barrett continued yelling as the guards dragged him away.
Claudia did not even look in his direction. She just left the place hurriedly as if hiding from the current spectacle.
Just then, Barrett felt the electric shocks of stunning canes on his back.
The man was about to enter the ramp when Claudia’s fiancée said, “Of course, you don’t want me to call the police? Who will take care of your girls then if you really went to prison? Do you think they have any use?”
The man’s eyes were something that he had seen so many times in the dark place where he came from. A vile person. He wouldn’t let him near his girls.
Barrett stopped. He stared in front of him. He couldn’t believe it.
He couldn’t rescue his daughter. Claudia, his main support, left him.
The night was darker than usual, and this left only one option, the most horrible of all.
Barrett was bloodied because of the beating that the security guards had given him. So he went home to change before returning to the hospital. Barrett observed some trash in front of his house. He grimaced and approached. “F*ck!” He cursed when he realized that those were his clothes! Barrett ran towards the house to check for any more stuff damaged, but his key could not open the door! Barrett also found another envelope, addressed to him, hanging on the door. “What now?” The owner of the house sold it, and you can’t access it! “Damn it!” He tiredly sat on the floor. Barrett still could not believe what was happening. But he knew he could not stay there. He sighed and stood up to get his clothing. Barrett grabbed some before heading to the park. It was the usual place where homeless people stayed for the night. Barrett washed his face and changed his shirt, and then went to the hospital. He was feeling so heavy and gloomy at that moment. All options were closing on him.
Barrett knew where his brother wanted to talk decently. Bobby did not have the hobby of reading. For some reason, however, he liked collecting books. Because of that, Bobby has a small library in his house. It was in that place that Bobby liked to talk serious stuff. He went into the library and sat on the nearest couch. It did not take long for the woman and Bobby to arrive. The woman served Barrett some tea, to which he drank casually. He glanced at Bobby and saw him leaning at the door with arms crossed over his chest.Bobby was looking at Barrett with displeasure, but not so bad as earlier. After all, Bobby would never do anything that might cause his collection to be destroyed.Who knows how long they were in that position? Bobby just looked at him in deep thought while Barrett waited. “Brother… How long are you going to think?” Barrett asked finally. He was glad that his brother was not hitting him anymore, but he did not have the whole day waiting for him to decide if he would
Sahid, who was acting as if he was unwilling to cooperate, was making Bobby grow more concerned. Bobby halts in his tracks and turns towards Sahid with a look of confusion and uncertainty. “Wait, Sahid! You must stick to the code!” Bobby said while taking a step forward and positioning himself in front of Sahid. Barrett had his arms crossed over his chest and his eyes fixed on Sahid’s every move. He was determined to ensure that they stayed on track and didn’t deviate from the agreed-upon plan. Also, they all knew that Sahid was known to be sly as a fox. He would say something that might have another hidden meaning to it. “Don’t get involved, Bobby. You’re already up to your neck in shit!” Sahid yelled, glaring at Bobby. “I want to get involved!” Bobby stepped forward, furious. “I didn’t go anywhere! I gave everything to your father, and I continue to give him champions. So I am involved!!” Sahid raised a brow at Bobby. He had a thoughtful expression on his face and didn’t appea
Barrett struggled to lift himself up from the cold, hard ground, despite an incredible surge of anguish coursing through his body. His eyes were fixed on the horizon straight in front of him, filled with purpose. He leaned down, his fingers scrabbling for a handful of the coarse, dry dirt underneath him, as he began to regain his equilibrium. Barrett raised his hand high, clutching the earth within his tight fist with grit and resolve. Then, with all his effort, he tossed it across the gap, aiming straight at Mustafa on the back. “Where are you going, fagot? I’m not done with you yet!” Barrett screamed out while maintaining a fake smile. Mustafa looked at Sahid. “Boss, if I pay his debt, can I kill him?” Mustafa remarked while maintaining eye contact with Sahid. At that very time, he was raging with fury. Sahid shook his head and said, “You don’t have to pay his debt. Death is a possibility in this business….” Mustafa’s eyes widened. They exchanged a look that said everything, a
As the sun began to rise and cast its light on the city, Barrett was sitting shotgun in the back of a black pickup truck that was driving down the highway. This was it for him. He was traveling towards the very life that he had left behind years ago. The situations that he was in these past few days were something he was not prepared for. In spite of the fact that he was thinking about the daughters he had left behind, he shifted his focus to the constructions. Barrett clung to the hope that it wouldn’t be for too long, but he was aware that the wolf’s jaws were getting closer and closer to his neck, and he understood that, at that point, anything might have happened. It was always the case, even before. The people in this dark would always relish the opportunity to bite you when you least expect it. It was like a form of entertainment for them. While he was concentrating on what was going on outside, his attention was taken by a voice that was coming from the passenger seat. Wh
The three individuals went into the primary room. Barrett recognized the significance of the large empty rectangle in the center of the room as soon as he saw it because the tables had been arranged in such a way as to create it.No matter how thoroughly they attempted to clean that location, it had an overwhelming odor of blood and perspiration. At the far end of the room, several staircases supported a makeshift throne that was occupied by a guy dressed in a green silk robe embroidered with gold flowers.“Barrett, the Barbaric, the undefeated, the invincible... The traitor!” The man with a glass of whiskey in his hand said.Barrett advanced and looked at him directly, the man was smiling, and on all his fingers, he had gold rings that gleamed against the lamp in the room.“You are a legend…” the man said, smiling.Barrett advanced. After kneeling down, he said, “Nice to see you, Danyio….”The man let out a hearty laugh before replying, “Manners… that is useless for a man of your lin
On his face, there was also blood, and from the floor, he heard Abdul’s laughter.“The Barbaric fighting with technique and short shots to reduce damage. Who are you?”Barrett got up, and his body was sore. If they saw Luke’s face, he seemed more hurt. However, Barrett felt severe pain on the side of his head while Luke seemed to move. This is bad… Barrett thought to himself. The image of his daughters came to his mind, and remembering Mustafa, he launched himself with everything he had in front of him.As he advanced, his mind repeated only one idea.My body will react, my body will react! He was sure that, as with Mustafa, his body was going to react without problems. Luke waited for him, and he could see how he moved. The inclination of his body and the way the kick would go for him.His kinesthetic vision kicked in, and he could easily predict Luke’s strike. The kick would come up from behind to land on his head, but Barrett anticipated the moment.Barrett attempted to inflict s
Barrett’s alarm went off, but he was already awake and ready to go. Barrett was wide awake at five o’clock in the morning since he had been unable to get to sleep any time throughout the previous night. When he looked around, he noticed that many of the cots were already totally occupied by people who were getting ready to work.Everyone who slept there had some way, or another lost their way in life and deserved what they got.Barrett looked at them. In Abdul’s eyes, they were simply paying their debt with work.“If I were you, I would get up. After all, the food is not enough for everyone again!” One of them said, walking.Barrett nodded. Even though he wasn’t hungry, he knew that because of the way he worked, it was important for him to maintain a healthy diet.Strolling out of the warehouse where the other workers slept, he joined them in walking out to the pier where they were waiting to line up.Barrett looked at Luke, the man he had fought the previous day, with a sense of wond
