CHAPTER 16

SHE IS MY WIFE NOW

Just as Maven took a seat on the bed, her phone began to beep from the corner where she had kept it. She turned to face it, slowly wondering who it was that was calling her. She walked over and picked up the phone.

“It's grandma”. She announced. After a while, she puts the phone down, her voice changing totally into a frown and sadness.

“What did she want?” Thomas asked casually. At least he has met with Grandma Clara before, and the way she acted that day made him realize that Maven must have been going through a lot to please the old lady, who was a direct autocrat.

“She has fixed a dinner date with Sabastian and wants me to be present since we have a deal to sign with their company.” Maven announced.

“Do you have to be there? Do you have to sign a contract with Garcia Pharmaceuticals? There are other ways to be influential than marrying off a daughter to a man she doesn't love." Thomas said it with pain in his tone, but there was nothing he could do about it.
