CHAPTER 137

Victor was standing right under the tree in front of Detective Reynolds's apartment. He had tracked him down to his house in Swagvile. He had his face cap on just to hide his identity a little bit, but the scorching sun wasn’t doing any good on his bare skin as he stood there and watched the yard for a while. The neighborhood in which Reynolds lived isn’t as sophisticated as Victor had thought it would be. Birds were chirping from the orange trees around the yard, and on one side stood a fully grown oak tree, spreading its roots and branches effortlessly. Victor surveyed the yard and scanned to see if anyone was watching him, even though he had been standing in the same spot for the past thirty minutes. The yard seemed much quieter than most areas of town.

On the front porch of the building were two vases of giant Aloe Vera standing on both sides, with a long wooden bench standing in the center. He raved his eyes in the garage and found two cars, but one of them seemed abandoned. Vic
