CHAPTER 3

"A mysterious Vast of Fortune? This sounds fishy," Kayla said, showing her suspicion of the letter.

But Peter didn't know what to say or believe. The letter has left him wondering if such is real.

"Fortunes hidden in the city, just for me? What if this is true?" He wondered, staring at the letter.

Kayla, who sat beside Peter, noticed the questions in Peter's eyes over the letter.

Worried, she took the letter from Peter's hand and placed it aside on the table.

"Why did you do that?" He asked her, looking.

With a sigh, Kayla said, " Look, don't allow such things to deceive you. I'm sure this is a setup."

Hearing her, Peter began to reason clearly.

"Forfeit whatever was noted in that letter. I'm sure it's a trap for the enemies to get you. Think about it. Your mother was killed here in the hospital, and now that you know, the enemy is looking for a way to get you and hurt you as well," Kayla pointed out to Peter, showing her concern for the broken man.

"I care about your safety, Peter. I don't want anything to happen to you," She said, taking hold of his hand to show her support.

Peter, who felt Kayla's grip, felt a spark in his heart over Kayla's kindness for him.

Even though he didn't know her fully, she watched over him while he was unconscious until he woke.

The least he could do was listen to her instructions.

"Okay, Kayla. I'll do as you've said. It must be a trap," Peter agreed looking at the letter.

"Better," Kayla said, feeling relief about it.

Peter gave a smile on seeing Kayla's innocent face. It made him feel completely like he wasn't alone.

Kayla took it up on herself to watch over Peter, promising to stand by him until he was discharged.

That made Peter feel relieved.

But things won't go according to Kayla's plan, when her ex-boyfriend, Victor, learns from a bird that Kayla is watching over a man at the hospital.

Victor, even though Kayla no longer wants to be with him, showed his displeasure with this report.

When he first heard of it, he went over to Kayla's place to confront her, only to find her place locked.

Victor traced Kayla to the hospital and saw how she constantly went to see Peter with different gift items and food, getting him angry.

He didn't like it.

"She's now giving herself to another man? What rubbish," He groaned finding this unacceptable.

A furious and jealous Victor visits the hospital one evening, after monitoring Kayla leaving.

He already knows the room where Peter is, and he comes with a basket, acting like he's a friend.

When he arrived, Peter, who was getting ready to eat the meal Kayla had brought for him, paused on seeing a tall man standing at the door, with his eyes fixed on him.

Peter doesn't recognize the fellow from anywhere. He lifted his brow at him and asked, "Who are you?"

Victor smirked, stepping into the room. He shuts the door from behind, saying, " Just a man who wants to say Hi."

Seeing how he shut the door, Peter had a bad feeling about the latter. He was about to reach for the hospital call button attached to his bed, when Victor grabbed him by the neck, pinning him down to the bed.

"What the hell?!" Peter yelled, trying to fight Victor off.

"Hell is what you're going to get if I ever see you near my girl again," Victor threatened.

"Your girl? What are you talking about?" Peter muffled, managing to push Victor off before he choked him to death.

Victor staggered, kicking the basket he had brought, which was empty, before facing Peter.

Now alerted by this, Peter got himself set to fight Victor. He felt Victor was the one who had killed his mother and had come to take him out too.

But everything came clear when the door opened, and Kayla stepped in.

"I forgot my purse and..." She lifted her eyes and stood shocked.

"Victor? What are you doing here?" She questioned, feeling her body shivering.

Seeing this, Peter understood what Victor meant when he grabbed him down.

"Is he your... Boyfriend?" He asked Kayla.

Before Kayla could say anything to Peter, Victor grabbed her by the arm, roughly.

"What the hell, Victor?" She groaned at him, trying to pull away.

But Victor won't budge.

"So now you want to start dating sick men, huh?" He questioned Kayla, who glared at him.

"I thought it was a joke when I learned you were seeing a sick man. Didn't expect to find you here with one. My girl is hitting on another man."

"I'm not your girl. We broke up, remember?" Kayla reminded Victor. But he wasn't ready to accept the truth.

Seeing Kayla won't budge to his control, Victor threatened, "If you don't leave this place with me, I swear your lover over there will get it. I'll kill him before your eyes and you won't be able to do anything. You know what I can do, Kayla."

Kayla gasped in fear, looking at Peter's direction.

The worried man, seeing how Victor was acting, could tell he was some rich spoilt brat who always gets what he wants by force.

He stared into Kayla's eyes and noticed how sad she gazed at him.

"Kayla."

"I'm sorry, Peter, " She apologized to him.

With no choice, Kayla succumbed to Victor's threat, allowing him to take her away from the hospital, and threatening to hurt Peter if she came over to see him again.

Victor successfully takes Kayla away with him, leaving Peter all alone again.

He felt like an orphan with no family to call his own.

After the day Kayla was taken by Victor, Peter found himself thinking of his life and all he had faced, as he prepared himself to be discharged.

The thoughts got him concluding once and for all.

"Not anymore. I've had enough of all this," He said, getting out of bed while grabbing his bag.

"I want to have power and status to ruin all those that bully me. I will no longer be the enemy's toy, but I shall make them pay, " He decided.

A desperate Peter took hold of the letter Kayla had kept aside for a long. He had hidden it from her that time, so she wouldn't throw it away.

His curiosity got the best of

him.

"I want to know where I belong, who I am, and where I truly come from. I want answers." He stared at the letter.
