CHAPTER 4

Finally discharged from the hospital, Peter didn't hurry back to his place. Instead, he got himself a cab and journeyed to the address sent to him in the letter. If his father was truly as rich as the letter says, then he has to see for himself.

He sat in the back seat, thinking of what awaited him. His mind is troubling him, wondering if the content in the letter is absolutely true or fake. He needs to know how it turns out; he knows he made the move.

But Peter had no time to make a decision. He needed to be there first.

At last, the cab stops at the address Peter was given. The poor man looked and saw a mansion right behind a large fence.

This got Peter's heart racing.

"Could this be true?" He asked rhetorically, stepping out of the vehicle and slowly approaching the entrance.

His eyes came scanning the environment of the mansion, noticing servants working from the corners, looking at him.

Peter felt awkward at first, but he remembers the letter and its content and heads for the door.

When he knocked, a butler stepped out, smiling at Peter.

"At last, you're here, Master." The butler referred to Peter, making way for him to step in.

"Master? " Peter is astonished.

He stepped into the large mansion, and he's being treated like a king by all the servants that came to attend to him.

"That letter... is it?"

"Yes, Mr. Coleman, what you read in that letter is absolutely true," the butler said, inviting him into the living room of the mansion.

"I was the one who wrote it and sent it to you, Master." The butler revealed it, surprising Peter even more.

"It was high time you got what belonged to you, Mr. Coleman. You are the heir of this empire. The heir to your father's riches," the butler added.

But his words kept amusing Peter. To him, he felt he was being tricked or something.

Letting out a chuckle, Peter said, "I know I was desperate to confirm if that letter was real, but... Hell no!"

He doubted, laughing at Butler's words.

"He's not lying, son," he heard a voice say from the other entrance of the living room, getting Peter to turn over and look.

There, he met an elderly man walking up to him. Peter recognised the man as a customer at the restaurant he always worked at.

He's among the rich guests—more respected guests—that usually come over to eat and have meetings with other rich businessmen at the restaurant.

"Mr Coleman?" Peter uttered, still gazing.

As he drew closer, Peter's mind went to their surnames. It's the same. He remembers how his coworkers would laugh at him for having the same name as the rich man, asking if he's related.

"You know you two almost look alike, Peter."

"Are you his son?" They had teased him.

But now...

"What he said is true, Peter. This is your home; you are my son, the heir to my empire."

"This doesn't make any sense to me," Peter said, finding it hard to believe.

"My mother said my father died when I was only two years old. You can't be my father just because of our surname."

"But DNA doesn't lie, Peter."

"DNA?" Peter uttered, looking at Mr. Coleman. This was the first time he was meeting the old man sitting before him, and he was already talking about some strange DNA result that he knew absolutely nothing about.

The old man reveals to Peter that he had taken a strand of hair from him through a coworker at the restaurant to find out the truth.

"A strand of my hair? That's ridiculously insane. It was a very insane thing to do, that violation of my rights." Peter vented his anger.

"Calm down, son; it isn't that deep," Mr.Coleman pleaded. He didn't want to be too hard on his son; that would scare him away if he wasn't careful.

He reveals to Peter how he carried out the test, and it's proven that Peter is indeed his son. He is a hundred percent sure that Peter was his long-lost son.

"I'm sorry that I did this without your permission, but the resemblance, the questions in my head... You are my son, Peter. The child that went missing twenty-seven years ago. I finally found you," Mr. Coleman said, pulling Peter in for a hug.

Peter didn't know how to react. All his life, he thought he had no father, but out of nowhere, his real father shows up, and it's no other person but the president of the Coleman empire?

"I'm his son?" Peter mouthed, realising he's the true heir to the old man's fortune.

After settling down with his father and knowing who he truly was, Mr. Coleman told him what had really happened back then.

Peter was taken away from his real mother by his adopted mother after his mother died during birth.

He could sense the anger in his father's voice over what his fake mother did, but Peter didn't care.

He has grown to love her as his real mother, and he won't rest until he avenges her death.

"I know this feels childish, but I hope it helps brighten the bond between us," Mr. Coleman said, taking hold of a photo album from Butler's hand.

He opens it and starts showing Peter the picture of his real mother and family.

As Peter was looking, his eyes immediately caught sight of a photo that looked troubling.

"Wait a minute. This man is here." He said this, pointing at a picture.

"Is he related to you?" Peter asked, staring in shock at seeing how the man in question stood beside Mr. Coleman.

"Yes, he is. That's your cousin, Victor Coleman. Have you two met?" He asked.

Peter couldn't respond but gaze.

The name Victor rang in Peter's head. This is the same Victor who threatened to kill him because of Kayla.

"He's your cousin, and that's your uncle, Kennedy. They are aware of your existence, too. I had requested their assistance back then in bringing you home, but it only makes me wish I never told them," Mr. Coleman said, sighing.

"So, Victor was aware of my identity? He knew who I was that day he  came."Peter reasoned, reiterating the rage in Peter's eyes and how he almost choked him to death. Trying to kill me because of some fortune isn't the solution.

With what he just heard, things were beginning to add up now. Now he knows who the real enemies are.
