The governor's office was in the heart of town. Peter had quickly arranged himself with Tyler for the meeting. They both got out of the tower, and Tyler held the door for Peter to go in. He was on a call when the driver moved the car. Tyler couldn't pick out whom he was speaking to over the phone, but he knows it had to be someone very important because Peter has made up his mind not to take any unimportant calls during work hours, especially during meetings. He didn't bother to eavesdrop on the conversation since it really didn't concern their job. But from all he could gather, it had to be with the contractors at the new casino tower he was building. That structure alone had taken a lot of money from Peter's personal account, but he didn't even flinch because it was his money, and the casino business is a very good investment, especially if the fellow has good experience running it. Peter took a deep breath and ended the call just a few minutes before they arrived at the governor'
"Alright, you can go with the frittatas, quiches, and tarts. It's nice, and you could add up some grilled chicken breast and veggies or shrimp if you want." She said,Tyler looked at Peter but he was busy talking when the governor noticed him. “It's fine as long as we love it.”."Sure, you will." She said yes and left with the request. Just about that time, the minister showed up.He was a broadly built man, and despite his age, he could pass for a 35-year-old with all the abs and muscles. He looked like he had spent a lot of time at the gym before he finally decided to join politics.“His Excellency; good day to you." He greeted her casually and shook hands with the governor.“Mr. Peter, how are you?” The minister shook hands with him also.“You are welcome, sir. Tyler was greeted quickly, and he also got a handshake.“So we are here to discuss the commissioning of the bridge. It is almost finished. Is that so, Peter?“Yeah, that's it. The work is about 75 percent finished, and we h
“What the hell were you doing out here? I thought you called in sick. Did you sneak to work while I was away?” Peter asked.“No”. I just came out to get a few groceries. “Groceries, for what, though?” “For us, aren't you coming home for dinner?”“Kayla I have a chef, and that's her job. To cook my meals, you don't have to stress yourself.“Well, she told me her baby was sick, so I had to let her go.”.“You should inform me next time." He said it to her. Kayla buried her head on his shoulders till they got to the house. Then he instructed the driver to take Tyler to his own house.“What would you like for dinner?” She asked him the moment they got into the house.“I'm filled. I have a good time at the governor's home, so I won't need any food until tomorrow." Peter said.“Suit yourself then." She snorted the words to him and went her way. They slept that night without any trouble. The next morning, Kayla looked happier than she had gone to bed. Peter was still sleeping when he got a
The wheels screeched loudly against the tarred road as the car turned inward in three sixty-degree directions. “The bastard had something to do with this." He cursed as he drove off angrily. A delivery truck stalled in front of him as he approached the main road. “Get the hell out of the way." Peter barked the words out of his mouth. He sped up the lane, and like a flash, he overtook the truck. He drove as fast as he could, and the moment he got to Victor's apartment, he was happy when he saw Victor's car parked outside. He hurried out of his car and knocked on the door. The second I knocked, he heard the voice boom from inside.“Hold on, I'm coming." And then it was followed by heavy footsteps. Peter balked his fist and wailed patiently. His chest swells and falls as he waits for Victor to open the door, and just as he had anticipated, Victor opens the door, and boom, Peter punches him in the face.“Whoa! What did I do?” “You idiot! After everything my father did for you and your
The next morning, Peter woke up more enraptured and energised, ready to meet the press. This was the only way he could clear his name and redeem his business. He was just about to enter his car when his phone rang.He pulled it out of his breast pocket and looked at the screen. “Tiger, I hope you have something good, “he murmured as she took the back seat of the car. He ordered his driver to proceed with the journey.“Yes, Tiger, is anything positive?” He asked with anticipation to hear what the young man had to say.“Sure boss. We found something incriminating. Logos Inventions wants you down, says your company is standing in their way to growth and existence”. Tiger's voice came from the other end of the phone.“Logos?” Peter queried and chuckled afterwards. “A company owned by Patrick Wilmore. His son Fredrick is in charge now. You know the man's son is crazy. Since his father died, he had been in the top range for years, and your showing and bagging awards in a few months is a th
“Get off!” Tyler screamed at the top of his voice. Peter had a straight face. His mind was made up. He was not going to answer anyone, no matter what, and no matter how hard they pushed themselves on him, his mind was fixed on getting out of those premises. He squinted his eyes and wore his sunglasses quickly. The pressmen and women persisted, still staying on the part to pick out information from him. Peter shook his head, marveling at their self-will and enthusiasm for work. The news was the fastest way to spread bad information. He had known that even as a kid growing up, and that is the same reason he never really liked them till now. They just proved his point right. He doesn't blame them anyway; if they do not get information from trusted family members and friends who have sold themselves to their greed and gossip, none of this will happen. The crowd gradually began to clear out as he approached his car. The driver was already seated, waiting for him at the entrance to the par
By morning, Peter woke up to lots of messages hanging on his phone. Just like he said last night, he had kept the phone on silent because he knows what it means to keep his phone on when matters like this arise. He had to protect his peace and sanity. As long as he has everything in place, he is good to go. He has deliberately refused to take any of the calls or answer any of the messages. Those who had planned to destroy him will pay. with their blood. He vowed to himself. It was already 7 a.m. when he stretched and picked up the phone. The moment he went online, he saw that what Tyler had put up was tearing the internet down. People had different comments under the post, saying Logos was a criminal and a user. They showered insults on him and Kendy for being greedy. Peter laughed so hard as he read through all of the comments. He dialed Tyler's number to thank him for a job well done.“Tyler, I never knew you had such prowess with words. What an amazing storyline you did there." Pe
The moment Kayla left with the driver. Peter receives a call from Tyler that the building has been opened and the soldiers' guarding habits are all gone. Everywhere was cleared.“That's good”. Peter said to him“They are gone, but they left a note, sir,” Tyler said.“What kind of note?” Peter asked him calmly over the phone.“It's a brown envelope, and I don't know what's in it. It has your name on it." Tyler said it with affirmation in his tone.“I'm on my way," Peter said and grabbed his keys. He didn't have to dress formally; he was not going to have any official meetings. He drove as calmly as he could, not exceeding the limit like he would on a day when he was really upset. When he got to the office, the entire vicinity was clear of the military men who stood by the gate and its environs. Peter smiled at his little victory, and the butterfly in his heart began to bubble. He walked in and checked if everything was intact. The office's main gate was still locked the same way it wa
