Chapter Eighty-One

“Master Jackson, you should rest,” Lucinda advised.

Shaking his numb hand from sitting in an awful position, Milton responded curtly, “keep the coffee coming.”

Lucinda linked her hands and said calmly, “Sir, this isn’t good for your health and those around you. If you need someone to talk to about her, I am here. She was such a sweet lady…”

“For heavens’ sake!” He said exasperatedly. Move on. Leave me alone!” Milton snapped. His voice echoed all over the office.

Lucinda was startled because Master Jackson never yelled at her.

“Master Jackson, I didn’t mean to offend you,” Lucinda answered.

When he heard the door lock, he sighed. He wrote a note, placed it at the door then locked himself in.

Lucinda returned with freshly made coffee. “Lucinda, I am sorry. Leave my coffee at the door. And go sleep. I will be okay.” It read. Lucinda smiled.

Milton heard her footsteps retreating, he went to pick up the coffee and continued working.
