Chapter Nineteen

Milton wanted to snore so bad. To pretend he didn’t hear what they were speaking. But how could he when Brianna was next to his head fanning him speaking to Roger, “he has been awake for the last few minutes.”

What was she playing at? It was the same question Milton and Roger Jackson had in their minds.

Brianna was playing a dangerous game and she knew it. Yes, she was Roger’s hand-woman but that didn’t give her the free pass of talking ill about his nephew.

The nephew waited patiently for Roger to yell at Brianna to leave again. But the more he waited, the more he realized the man wasn’t going to repeat his words.

He felt a hand in his short-trimmed hair. If he hadn’t been listening to his hammering heart, he would have fallen into another deep slumber.

Roger Jackson was playing with Milton’s hair to avoid dragging Brianna out of there. He was outside while they were speaking about Milton and whatever reason Brianna had, he didn’t want to hear it.
