"I’m not a fan of her personality either," Joseph admitted as he sank onto the sofa, a faint trace of bitterness in his voice. "Even being around her felt suffocating. But some things aren’t up to me."

He reached for a document on the table and slid it toward Alice. "Here, take a look at this."

"What’s this?" Alice asked, leaning closer in curiosity.

"A file Leonard Sanchez gave me today. He wants me to take on a graduate student," Joseph explained, pouring a glass of water for both of them.

As Alice opened the file and caught sight of the accompanying photo, her eyes widened in shock. "Wait… is this…?"

"I know," Joseph said with a bitter smile. "I was just as surprised when I first saw it."

"Joseph, if you don’t want to work with her, you should talk to Professor Sanchez or Mr. Harris about it. If you’re too polite to bring it up, I can ask Grandpa to step in. They’d definitely listen to him," Alice suggested, her brows furrowed in concern.

"It’s fine," Joseph replied with a shake of

"This recipe came from Joseph. Are you sure you want to take medicine from someone you’ve treated so kindly all these years? Aren’t you afraid he might poison you?" Heidi said, her tone dripping with sarcasm as she stood up."What? Joseph? He’s not even a doctor! How could you trust him enough to drink his medicine? Are you out of your mind? Spit it out! Spit it out right now!" Maria panicked, rushing toward Heidi."Calm down, Mom. He might harm you, but he’d never harm me. Besides, he’s now a professor in the medical department at Nova University. Wouldn’t you say that makes him a doctor?" Heidi said nonchalantly."That’s impossible! That loser? There’s no way he could have that kind of ability," Maria said, clearly in disbelief. She turned to Fiona, who hadn’t looked up from her book. "Fiona, is that true?""It’s true," Fiona replied without so much as glancing up."But how? He must’ve used some underhanded means to get in. He’s nothing compared to Charles Martin, not even close!" M

Time slipped by, and soon it was 10 PM.At Nova General Hospital, in the radiology department, Charles Martin paced anxiously, holding his swollen right hand."Are Charles Martin’s test results ready yet? It’s been over two hours!" Charles snapped impatiently at the nurse behind the counter."The results will be announced over the intercom once they’re ready. What’s the rush?" The nurse shot him an irritated look. Frustrated but left with no choice, Charles resumed pacing the waiting area, his agitation growing by the minute. Finally, after another ten minutes or so, the intercom crackled to life: "Patient Charles Martin, please proceed to Orthopedics Room 2 on the third floor to consult and collect your test results."Hearing his name, Charles hurriedly made his way upstairs.Inside Room 2, a middle-aged doctor in his thirties glanced up as Charles walked in."You’re Charles Martin?" the doctor asked, confirming his identity."Yes, that’s me," Charles replied quickly."Your situation

“What’s with locking the door and dimming the lights? Are you setting a mood or something?” Joseph coughed awkwardly, his tone carrying a hint of teasing.“Of course not! I always lock the door when I enter a room—it’s just a habit. And I dimmed the lights because I think softer lighting creates a better atmosphere for… well, for doing anything,” Alice explained matter-of-factly, as though her reasoning was the most natural thing in the world.Joseph could only manage a strained smile. This girl sure had her quirks."Alright, Joseph, take it off," Alice said, standing in front of him with a completely serious expression.“Take what off?” Joseph froze, momentarily confused.“Your shirt, of course! How else am I supposed to check your body? Don’t be shy—I’m not some bad woman who’s going to take advantage of you,” Alice said earnestly, her gaze unwavering.Under her intense, innocent stare, Joseph found himself at a loss. Somehow, her sincerity made him feel even more awkward.“Are you

Why are you all tagging me? What’s this about my ‘lover’ being in trouble? What happened?” Alice typed back, utterly confused as she scrolled through the avalanche of messages.“Just to confirm, Alice, is the Joseph Wilson who started at the medical school today *your* little lover, Joseph?” Rebecca, one of Alice’s roommates, was the first to speak.“Huh? Yeah, it’s the same person. Why?” Alice replied, a little puzzled.“Wow, girl, you’re something else. Managed to bag a professor? Alice’s heart warmed at his thoughtfulness. “You didn’t have to go through so much trouble. If you’re not home, I can just eat out.”“It’s no trouble at all,” Joseph said, waving her concern away. He finished his breakfast quickly and stood up. “Alright, I’m off.”“Drive safe,” Alice said, watching him as he rushed to leave.Joseph nodded, grabbed the breakfast he had prepared for Heidi, and headed out the door. Once he got into the car, he paused to send her a quick message on Facebook.“There’s an urgent matter at the university, so I’m heading there now. I left your breakfast in the car. Let me know when you get to campus.”He waited for a moment, but there was no reply. Heidi was probably still asleep. As he put his phone down, he noticed that his friend request list on Facebook had grown by another two hundred requests overnight, bringing the total to over five hundred. The door opened, and a clear, confident voice rang out. "Mr. Harris, Professor Sanchez, esteemed colleagues—what’s everyone doing here so early in the morning?"The speaker strolled into the room, and the moment Charles Martin saw him, his face drained of color. His reaction was immediate and visceral."F-Fuck! Joseph!" Martin cried out, his voice trembling. He recoiled as though he’d seen a ghost, toppling out of his chair in a panic and landing in a disheveled heap on the floor."Professor Martin, what’s the matter? Why are you so agitated?""Professor Martin, please be careful—you’re already injured as it is!""There’s no need to be this excited just because you saw Professor Wilson.""…"The group hurried to calm Charles Martin down."Wait a minute," Martin said, his expression a mix of horror and disbelief as he was helped back onto his feet. "Mr. Harris, Professor Sanchez," Martin turned to them with a despairing look, "are you absolutely sure he can fix my hand?""Of course he can!" Sanchez declared with unwavering confidence. "I stake Mr. Harris’s reputation and integrity on it. Professor Wilson is undoubtedly one of the few people in our department capable of resolving your condition.""Why are you staking my reputation and integrity?" Harris shot Sanchez a look of disdain. "What’s wrong with using your own?""Your reputation and integrity hold more weight," Sanchez replied sheepishly, patting Harris on the shoulder with an awkward smile."Aaaghhh!" Another scream burst from Martin’s lips, his face contorted in pain."Joseph, you’re doing this on purpose!" he roared."Professor Martin," Joseph replied with a calm yet slightly exasperated tone, "I’ve told you repeatedly to stay quiet and cooperate. Do you want your hand treated or not? If not, I’m more than happy to leave it as is. It’s not like I have anything to lose.

"If we miss this chance, we may not encounter such a perfect case again.""Exactly. "Thank you for your selfless contribution to the advancement of education and medicine."Then, as if remembering something, he added, "Oh, by the way, I seem to recall hearing you mention earlier that as long as your hand could be fixed, money wouldn’t be an issue?""Did I say that?" Martin’s eyes darted nervously, feigning forgetfulness. He was all too aware of Joseph’s crafty nature and had no idea what outrageous request might follow if he admitted it."You did. She looked quite pleased with herself."What if they ask you to bring your boyfriend home?" Joseph asked, casually releasing her hand as he got into the car."We’re still just getting to know each other. Holding hands doesn’t mean we’re ready for a family dinner. That’s still years away—three to five at least, don’t you think?""Either way, I’m done chatting with all those weirdos my parents keep picking."Mason mumbled from the passenger seat, her voice full of exasperation."Fair enough," Joseph said as he started the car and pulled out onto the road.As they drove, Joseph couldn’t help but notice how different Mason Alvarez seemed. The change had started the moment she took his hand. Before, she’d always come across as bold and difficult. But when she held his hand, something shifted—she became gentle, almost

"Uh... it's not bad," Joseph replied, a little stiffly. After all, honesty counts, right? How could anyone possibly say such soft, smooth hands didn’t feel nice to hold?"Do you want to keep holding them?" Mason Alvarez bit her lip and glanced sideways at him."That might not be appropriate..." Joseph looked uncomfortable, as if he were the one taking advantage."I don’t mind. So what’s inappropriate?" Mason rolled her eyes at him. Was this Wilson teacher really that clueless? Most men would kill for the chance to get close to her, and here he was, looking like he was doing her a disservice. The world was full of guys trying to take advantage of her, and yet this one — the one she offered it to — looked like he’d rather run."Alice is my girlfriend now. It just feels... wrong," Joseph said plainly, his conscience clearly weighing on him."Hey, hey, what are you talking about? She approved this, okay? I wouldn’t do anything sneaky behind her back.""You make it sound like I’m the

After leaving the night market, Joseph and Mason Alvarez strolled down a quiet street. It was still a bit of a walk back to where they had parked. They had wandered quite far without realizing it."Mr. Wilson, are you out of your mind? That guy was throwing questions at you left and right—didn't that strike you as suspicious? How could you just share your personal information with a total stranger?""Especially things like your phone number, ID number, and other personal details—you should never reveal those to anyone.""These days, society’s a mess. Who knows what someone might do with that kind of information?"Mason walked steadily along the road, speaking in a casual tone."I know," Joseph replied with a nod."Then why did you do it?"Mason shot him a disbelieving look."Because I didn’t think he was a bad person. He had this air about him—stern, principled. He said he was a soldier, fresh off the battlefield."Joseph smiled faintly as he spoke."You can sense someone’s aura? He

But how could someone forget whether they served or not?”“I’ve forgotten a lot of things. Much of my past is just... blank.”Joseph’s tone was light, but distant.“You know, you’re really nosy,” Mason Alvarez suddenly cut in, her voice sharp. “Mr. Wilson clearly isn’t that close to you, yet you keep asking

The moment it struck, the wheel froze in place. The dart had landed precisely in the red zone. The crowd around the stall gasped, stunned into silence.“Boss, does that mean I get to take the bunny home now?” Joseph asked with a grin.“This... this can’t be real…” the vendor stammered, momentarily speechless.“Was that really a bullseye? Am I seeing things?”“No, you’re not. He nailed it—one shot, dead center.”“My God… are there really men in this world who are that accurate?”The onlookers were in complete disbelief. To say he’d do it in one throw—and then actually do it? It was surreal.“Mr. Wilson, did you really hit it with just one dart?” Mason Alvarez rubbed her eyes, still unable to believe it.“What do you think?” Joseph replied, clearly amused by her expression.“If I’m not hallucinating, then yes… one dart. You nailed it.” Mason shook h

Before long, the table was covered with dishes. In truth, Mason Alvarez had already eaten quite a bit earlier, snacking on all sorts of things. Now, she only picked at a few bites before deciding she’d had enough. After about half an hour, she asked the waiter to pack up the remaining food for Joseph to take home.“Mr. Wilson, your car’s parked near the plaza, right? How about we walk back through the pedestrian street?”Mason suggested casually.“What else would we do, call a cab for five minutes of walking?” Joseph shot her a look.“Then let’s take it slow. It’s still early, and this area isn’t far from where your little sweetheart and I both live.”Mason skipped ahead with a cheerful grin.It was peak night market hours and the pedestrian street was bustling with people. Stalls lined both sides, offering every kind of street food imaginable.Mason wandered from one to the next, her eyes lighting up at every new snack.“Mr. Wilson, look! There’s a dart game over there. But honestly, Joseph knows so many things, it wouldn’t surprise me if he could do anything.”“And he’s always been so low-key. Unless absolutely necessary, he never shows off his talents.”“Ugh, this Butterfly Lovers performance was so beautiful... and he’s never played a single note for me!” Alice grumbled, clearly annoyed.“The concert’s almost over. You’ll be getting your man back soon,” Mason quickly replied.“You better be right. "You possess extraordinary talent. You should be shining on the world's grandest stages."He was clearly taken aback. It was hard for him to imagine anyone turning down his invitation."Is he insane? Do you know how many musicians would kill for such an opportunity?""If Zasit ever recognized me, I'd probably laugh myself awake from the dream.""Still, I suppose Mr. Wilson has earned the right to choose.
