Chapter 0003

"Mom..." Edward's voice sounded somewhat aggrieved.

Mary glanced inside the apartment and instantly understood everything. Her gaze towards Edward also began to turn cold.

Impatiently waving her hand, she said, "Since you already know, then you and Susan should divorce as soon as possible! Honestly, everyone agrees that you should get out of the Carey family! You're not even worthy of Susan!"

Mary's words pierced his already broken heart like sharp arrows, one after another.

"Does Dyson agree too?" Edward couldn't help but ask.

His father-in-law, Dyson Carey, got along well with him.

Mary sneered, "This time, even if he doesn't agree, it doesn't matter! As long as the MC&Dickens Group and the Morgan family reach a cooperation, the Carey family can benefit as well. It’s involved in the family development, he can't decide!"

With a disdainful look at Edward, she twisted her bulky waist and walked into the house like a proud hen.

Edward said nothing more. The indifference of Susan and Mary left him completely desolate.

... ...

At night, Edward staggered through the empty streets, the bottle in his hand now had been empty, too.

It could numb his nerves, help him momentarily forget his troubles.

But at the same time, it made him lose his vigilance.

Edward was unaware of the danger that was quietly approaching.

"Boss, that kid is drunk!"

"Stop nagging, follow him closely."

"Boss, he just turned into an alley."

"Hurry up, get rid of him there!"

... ...

"Who... who are you?"

The pain in his body made Edward slightly more sober. Struggling to sit up against the wall, he looked at the three gangsters before him.

With the moonlight, he could make out some details of these three people.

Edward saw that the leader's waist was bulging, seeming like there’s something there.

God! He has a gun!

Edward tried to stay calm and raised his hands to show a French Salute, "I surrender, you can take my money."

But none of them replied...

Edward felt uneasy. Maybe they were not robbers.

Could it be for revenge? But he had always been kind and never made enemies...

No! William! William Michael!

"Did William Michael hire you guys to attack me?" Edward asked nervously and even fearfully.

But secretly, he grabbed a handful of stones from the ground with his right hand.

There was a moment of silence.

"Heh..."

A light chuckle broke the silence of the night.

The leader man spoke, "One hundred thousand dollars for a drunkard's limbs, you're quite valuable."

As he spoke, he kicked Edward's body with his foot.

"Don't worry, it will be quick! We won't take your life. But your limbs won't be spared."

"Tom, Jerry, catch him, don't let him move." The leader instructed.

Completely sober, Edward's inner danger alarm rang loudly, urging him to counterattack quickly.

But he forcibly suppressed his nervousness and fear. He couldn't act rashly; he needed to seize the best opportunity to escape.

Bang!

Just then, a big noise came from a nearby trash can, startling all three men to stop simultaneously.

"Who's there?"

It’s the opportunity!

Edward immediately threw the stones in his hand at the three men, then scrambled away towards the end of the alley without looking back.

Passing by the trash can, he noticed a white cat staring at him intently.

Thank you, little kitty!

Reacting swiftly, the three men chased after him, shouting angrily, but found Edward ahead getting closer and closer to the exit of the alley.

Seeing their “goal” slipping away, the leader stopped, pulled out the gun from his pocket.

Aim! Fire! Both in quick succession!

"Help! Help!" Edward shouted as he rushed towards the street.

He knew that once he made it to the public, he would be safe.

However...

Bang!

A gunshot rang out.
