CHAPTER 03

Ulmer was not new to fighting. He used to fight his classmates a lot back in school and college days.

In fact, Ulmer and Kale also fought each other multiple times in the past, and Ulmer had the edge against Kale most of the time, but right now, Kale caught both of Ulmer’s fists effortlessly.

“You just came out of the station,” Kale snorted, “but you are so eager to go back into custody again.”

“Shut up!” Ulmer tried to pull his hands out, but to his shock, he couldn’t do that. Kale’s strength was much higher than expected. Kale was still sitting, but he was able to bend Ulmer’s arms against his will. “Ugh…”

“You shouldn’t have come home, Ulmer. Now you’re forcing me to kill not just your family but also you,” Kale uttered.

Ulmer’s heart ached after hearing Kale’s words. His blood rushed with extreme anger that peaked all of a sudden. “K~A~L~E!”

The bird locket on Ulmer’s heart shone and resonated with his feelings.

“Hahaha!” Kale wickedly laughed. “All you can do is shout. You can’t kill me because I’m much stronger than a regular human. I’ve been granted power by the woman you loved.” His words not only shocked Ulmer but also angered him even more. “And you want to know how she granted me power? How else? We spent time in bed, of course. Brianna is a real slut. She kept begging for more as I banged her from behind.”

“Stop it!” Ulmer forcibly managed to pull his hands out of Kale’s grip, surprising him. Ulmer immediately threw a punch at Kale’s face.

“Hehe,” Kale easily dodged by moving his head downward diagonally. “Like I said, you’re too weak to—”

BAM~!

Ulmer’s second fist came down like a rocket and struck Kale’s head so hard that his fist imprint was left on Kale’s cheek. Kale completely crashed to the ground, with multiple broken teeth.

Kale still barely clung to his consciousness, but he couldn’t comprehend what just happened. How could Ulmer be able to beat him who was granted raw physical strength from Brianna? This made no sense, but how could he deny what he was seeing?

Ulmer wasn’t satisfied with one punch. He continued to kick Kale who was on the floor.

Kale coughed blood. The cafe’s owner already called the cops and warned Ulmer to stop and get out of the shop, but Ulmer didn’t care.

“Wait,” Kale shed more blood with every attack of Ulmer. “I didn’t kill your parents. Someone else did.”

His words stopped Ulmer. “What? Who killed them?”

“Brianna,” Kale quickly explained, even though it was very difficult for him to speak with broken teeth. “She first ordered me to kill your family, but before I could do anything, she personally came to your house and killed your family.”

Ulmer’s heart thundered against his chest. He still found it very hard to imagine much less digest the words Kale just spoke.

Seeing Ulmer losing his focus, Kale took this as an opportunity and pulled Ulmer’s leg. Ulmer fell back. Kale jumped on him and rained down punches left and right, not giving any gap whatsoever.

Ulmer did his best to block the attacks, but at some point, he had enough.  He forcibly caught Kale’s wrists, and both of them wrestled to overpower the other. In the end, Ulmer managed to roll over so that he got on top now. He swiftly landed a couple of punches on Kale’s face, causing him to lose more teeth.

“You brought this on yourself, Kale!” Ulmer’s fist continued to pound his face until he became unrecognizable.

Ulmer punched him a total of 238 times. His fist was completely covered with blood now.

“You shouldn’t have killed him out in the open,” the system’s voice rang in his mind. “You will now be considered a murderer by society and the world.”

The system’s words made Ulmer realize what he had done. He checked Kale’s pulse, and he couldn’t feel it.  “I didn’t intend to kill him, but I don’t regret it.”

“Don’t worry. I can brainwash the shop owner so that he’ll send the police back,” the system said.

“You can do that?” Ulmer was greatly surprised. “Just who exactly are you?”

“I’m the spirit system, but you can call me Dove, if you want. I can do many things without an owner, but I can do a lot more things through a living soul. Will you be my friend, Ulmer?”

“We already had a deal, didn’t we?”

“Yes, but I’m just trying to assess you. Don’t take it the wrong way,” Dove said. “Let me deal with the police first, and then we can talk.”

Dove hypnotized the cafe owner and workers to hide Kale’s body, clean the floor before the police came. The cafe owner told the police that the people that were fighting already left the shop, so the officers could only leave.

Afterward, Dove sucked Kale’s dead body into its bird locket, greatly surprising Ulmer.

“You can store things inside you?” he quickly asked.

“Of course. Like I said, I can do many things,” Dove said casually. “But let me tell you this… if you want me to be with you, then all this is my first and foremost condition.”

“What is it?”

“To never lie. For whatever reason, good or bad. Do not lie.”

Ulmer pursed his lips and nodded. He felt devastated after Brianna betrayed him and killed his parents and siblings. So, he felt like he shouldn’t ever betray anyone, even with a simple lie.

“So, before we go out on our mission to hunt Brianna down, is there anyone else you want to meet and greet?” Dove asked.

Ulmer slightly frowned. “There is one. My grandmother.”
