Rever hadn’t said a word to Ulmer along the way, not because he didn’t want to but because Mirianne was right with them, and he didn’t want to talk about his defeat and embarrass himself even more.

An old couple appeared out of nowhere and stopped in front of their cart.

The driver had to stop the cart.

“Why did you stop?” Rever stepped out of the vehicle, and the old couple were quickly down on their knees and begged.

“Please give us some money. We are dying from hunger, O Great Knight!” they pleaded with tears in their eyes.

Rever took out a couple of gold coins and tossed them to the side. They thanked him and gave the way.

“Don’t stand in my path again,” Rever warned. “Or, I’ll break your legs.”

And then he returned to the cart.

“Don’t waste your money, Rever,” Mirianne told them. “Those two people were probably lying to get your hard-earned money.”
