The Rising Phoenix: Devisee’s escapade. The only way
The men returned their gazes to the old man who suddenly fell on his back, and let out a huff from his mouth and nostrils. The remaining blood on his face trickled down and stained the white bedspread. “Is he…” Jason couldn’t get himself to complete the words he had in mind as he looked at his Grandfather whose stillness made his heart try to escape from his chest. He bent down at once and placed his ear on his chest. He listened for a few seconds, but he couldn’t hear anything. “His heart stopped,” Jason announced with a weak tone, almost shedding tears as he looked at Harry who decided to check himself. He placed his ear on the old man’s chest and listened attentively while Jason watched keenly, hoping that he was wrong. Slowly, Harry lifted his head from the old man, and his countenance was enough to tell that he confirmed the words Jason said earlier. “Did you hear anything?” Jason asked even though the Butlers’s countenance was enough to give him the answer he wanted. “

For a few seconds, Brenda stared at Jason who held her hand as soon as she tried to inject the old man with the syringe in her right hand, before she sighed softly and spoke with a calm voice. “This is meant to buy him more time till we find a permanent solution or something that would be able to prolong his life till the solution is available. This will boost his immune.” Brenda showed the syringe to Jason who stared at it with so much uncertainty written all over his face. “Must you inject it through his heart? What happened to his hands?” “His body is too weak to push the booster to his heart, his nerves are not functioning currently. The best shot we have at this is to give him the shot directly in his heart.” “Won’t it kill him?” Harry stole the words from Jason who stared at Brenda, waiting for her to give a response. “I already told you guys that this is really dangerous, and it is our best shot at this moment. His heartbeat is faint, and he has already lost more than

“This can’t be happening.” Jason struggled to catch his breath while his hands continued to shake profusely. It felt as though he was being electrocuted with a taser. “You can’t do this, Grandpa. You are the only one I have left.” Jason sniffled to stop himself from crying while he moved his hands all over the old man’s body. “I am sorry, Jason. I wish this could have ended better.” Brenda said with a shaky voice, but Jason ignored her and continued staring at the old man. Almost immediately, the door was pushed open from the outside, and three men ran into the room. “We’ve got it! We are here!” Resounded the deep male voice that caused the three people standing close to the old man to turn in that direction to see Chang hurriedly walking toward them alongside the two guards Bruce and Ramon who were on both sides. “I have been calling you!” “I am sorry, Mr. Harrison! I lost my phone on our way back from the airport.” Bruce apologized with his face bent to the ground. “He

Jason hurried to his Grandfather who coughed for the second time and bent toward him with his face anxious. “Grandpa? Can you hear me? Can you hear me? It’s me, your Grandson!” Jason gently grabbed the old man’s arms and looked at his eyes which were trying to open as he flickered instantly. “Excuse me.” Brenda quickly grabbed her stethoscope and hurried to the old man while Jason moved away to let her do her job. “How is this possible?” Brenda whispered to herself as she checked the old man’s heartbeat and pulse, and then she opened his eyes and gasped slightly. “What is it?” Jason inquired from the Doctor who turned to look at him almost immediately. “This is a miracle! I was sure that I didn’t hear any heartbeat from his chest. He is totally fine, all the symptoms have vanished. How is this possible?” Brenda turned to look at Chang who had a fulfilled smile on his face which was accompanied by a heavy sigh of relief. “Told you! Herb will work! Herb will work! It worked!

Hearing the footsteps that were following him from the back, Chang turned around slowly, and when he saw Jason right behind him, he increased the pace of his steps, within a few seconds, he was at the staircase and descended hastily. “Funny.” Jason chuckled as he watched Chang from behind while climbing down the stairs as well. He shook his head slightly, and as soon as he got to the living room, he hastened to the door and walked out of the mansion. He met the guards closing the door to one of the vans parked in front of the mansion with the Doctor standing close to them. Harry walked out from the other side of the van and went straight to Jason whose eyes were focused on the back window of the van as he tried to look to see if he was going to be able to see his Grandfather. “Are you letting him go?” Harry asked with a low tone, looking at Chang who was slowly walking away, and turning at intervals to be sure that Jason was not going to change his mind anytime soon. “Yeah,

Filled with the thoughts of the morning, Jason woke up before the alarm could go off, and as soon as he got down from the bed and attempted to go into the bathroom, the alarm went off and he stretched and turned it off. “Grandpa?” He whispered to himself, and quickly getting up from the bed, he walked into the bathroom and took a quick shower. He put on a pair of navy blue suits and a brown shoe before stepping out of the room after he had taken his phone and car key. He walked straight to his son’s room, and seeing that he was still asleep, he silently walked out of the room and started walking toward the elevator. “Good morning, Young Master.” “Good morning, Harry. I hope you slept well.” Jason lifted his face as soon as he heard the Butler’s voice, anticipating some news from him. “I should be asking you, Young Master. It looks like you didn’t sleep for so long.” “Well, let’s say that I have been thinking about the events of today. How is my Grandfather?” Jason stood
The Rising Phoenix: Devisee’s escapade. The Courhouse
Throughout the ride from the Villa to the courthouse, Jason held onto the thoughts of anticipation that lingered in his mind. Finally, it was time to sever ties with Isabella completely, and he just couldn’t wait for everything to end before going ahead with the second phase of his plans. Henry was the only reason why he had not carried out his plans for the Palmers, and cutting ties with them entirely was the only thing he was waiting for, and that was going to take place soon. As soon as he drove into the vicinity of the courthouse, he saw the familiar white G-wagon parked in front of the building, and he recognized it at once. That was Clark’s car, he could never forget it. “They are actually here already.” He whispered to himself, and a few seconds later, he saw Isabella and Clark walking out from the back of the building with another man who looked like he was an important personality in the courthouse. The look on their faces showed signs that they were conspiring, and

“You mean my son, Henry? Oh, he is fine. He is fine, far away from your callousness and misconduct.” Jason said with a smirk that appeared on his face a few seconds later. He stared at Isabella who had so many words to say and chuckled almost immediately. “You lost the right to ask about him a long time ago, Isabella.” “Lies! You lie, Jason! He is my son, and there is nothing you can do about it!”“Oh, really?” “Yes!” Isabella stood her ground, engulfed by a sudden confidence that made her stand her ground, especially with Clark standing close to her. “I see. I am very curious, Isabella. Which mother would force a Doctor to give her child sleeping pills just to tell her ex-husband that the child is dead?” “I don’t know what you are talking about.” “I bet you do, Isabella. You know what I am talking about, and you will answer for it.” Jason said confidently, looking at Isabella who was forced to look at him almost immediately. “Yes, Isabella. You are going to do a lot of

Joe’s Cafe
The waitress discovered that two men were walking toward her, and adjusting herself with a welcoming smile on her face, she greeted them warmly. “Hello, Sir. Welcome to Joe’s Café. Do you need anything?” “Yes. Hello. We are looking for a lady called Shirley. I was told she works here.” Jason said with a smile as well, looking at the waitress whose countenance showed that she didn’t know who he was talking about. “Shirley? I don’t think I know any Shirley who works here, Sir. I am new here, but I can get you someone who could know.” “Yes, please! Thank you so much.” Harry said calmly, gesturing to the waitress who nodded before walking away, holding onto the small notepad and pen she had in her hands. “I really hope this ends well,” Jason said with a whisper, sighing firstly while he kept his eyes on the path the waitress took. The waitress returned in less than a minute with another waitress who looked older and more experienced than her. “Hello, Sirs. My name is Nora. I

Bring Him Home
For a few seconds, Jason remained silent, but it didn’t seem like that was going to solve anything. The old man was still waiting to get a response from him, and Harry was interested to know the outcome of their meeting as well. Adjusting himself to get a more comfortable posture, Jason cleared his throat and sighed before he spoke with a voice that almost sounded like a whisper. “He has a son.” He said calmly, but his words were too heavy for the other men in the room to remain as calm as he was. Lord Walker knew Jason to be a man who didn’t joke with such things but for a second, he remained calm, hoping that he was going to say he was joking. Maybe he meant to say something else. “A son?” “Yes, Grandpa. He has a son.” “Julius has a son?” Lord Walker leaned forward, and grabbed the half-empty glass of water which he consumed before returning it to the table. “Are you okay, Lord Walker?” Harry asked, moving closer to the old man who raised his hands to stop him from g

The rays from the sunlight were shining brightly through the casement windows inside the bedroom. The curtains were half closed, giving way to the rays that hit Brenda’s eyes while she groaned in her sleep. As though there was a force, she opened her eyes instantly, only to behold the sight of shirtless Jason sitting close to her with a tray in both hands. “Wakie wakie! I was worried that too were not going to wake up on time to see this.” Jason had a beautiful smile on his face while he looked at Brenda who adjusted herself slowly, sitting up while she looked at the tray he was carrying. “What’s that?” “Oh! This? I made you breakfast! I had to wake up early just to make sure that everything worked as I planned. Here…” Jason opened the dish cover to reveal the egg and sausages on the plate next to a cup of black coffee. “I tried making the coffee just like you do. I hope I tried.” Jason handed the cup of coffee to Brenda who blew on the coffee before taking a sip. “Easy! I

Special Announcement
While everyone sat comfortably, eating and drinking everything that had been set on the table, Jason picked up the glass of wine in front of him, and after looking at his Grandfather and getting the signal from him, he nodded before lifting the glass. “I have a special announcement!” He hit his fork on the brim of the glass, drawing the attention of everyone seated at the table who instantly put a hold t what they were doing, and paid keen attention to him. Everyone seemed curious to know what he was about to say except the old man who was already done eating his veggies and wiped his lips with a napkin while he maintaining a grin on his face. “First of all, I want to thank Harry for bringing his lovely family to dinner. It’s such a pleasure to have you all here. Family is everything, family is life, and I am happy that he has such a beautiful family.” Jason lifted the glass toward Harry who bowed gently, still wondering what he was up to. “Harry here has been working with thi

Jason was the first to step out of the hot tub before Brenda joined him. Handing over one of the two towels he grabbed to her, he gave her a lovely smile which made her blush while she grabbed the towel, and wrapped her body with it. “You are still staring.” Brenda said with her smile intact, but Jason couldn’t take his eyes away from her, not even for a second. “What am I going to ever do without you? You have brought me so much joy, Brenda.” “Nothing, Jay. You are going to do nothing.” Brenda chuckled while Jason nodded without getting rid of his smile. “You are right. Absolutely nothing, that’s what I am going to do if I ever lose you.” “Well, I am not leaving anytime soon. I am here with you, my love.” Brenda patted Jason on both cheeks before she turned and walked toward the bedroom, holding onto her towel with both hands. “We must hurry, Jay! We are having guests, remember?”“Oh, right! I almost forgot about that!” Jason rushed into the room, and got dressed alongsi

Price to Pay
For a few seconds Jason was silent while he exchanged glances with the couple, not sure of who he was to face. It was obvious that they were expecting to hear him speak, but the silence in the room was killing them, having more effect on Lucas who couldn’t forget the words he said to him. He was afraid that the day of reckoning had come, and it was time to pay for all his crimes. Still unable to stop himself from finger mg, especially at the sight of Ramon who gave him threatening looks, Lucas decided to grab his bottle, hoping to get back some of his composure from a gulp. “What’s that?” Jason’s calm words stopped Lucas from grabbing the bottle from the ground, causing him to remain still while he lifted his face slowly to look at him, patches of guilt all over his face. “I can’t believe this.” Jason scoffs. “You really want to drink right now. You have really drowned yourself in so much alcohol. I bet you dream of drinking while you sleep.” Jason sighed softly, and remain

Everyone remained silent amidst the tension that surrounded the air. While Lucas kept his eyes on Jason who remained still with a smirk on his face, he struggled with the contemplation of either remaining where he was standing, or moving backward. For a second, he took two steps backward, but because it felt as though his body no longer belonged to him, he couldn’t move afterward. “Hello… Dad. I see you haven’t left your old habits.” Jason pointed at the bottle of whiskey which Lucas tightly held onto even in the midst of the cringe that engulfed him. “It’s you.” Lucas’ voice was shaky. And while he held onto the half-empty bottle, he gently lifted it up to look at it, filled with thoughts of his numerous drinking adventures. It was true that he was intoxicated at that moment, but the sight of Jason and his companions made the effects of the whiskey wear off at once, leaving him to struggle with the situation. “I am just going to let myself in. Excuse me…” Jason gestured to

Hello, Mother
“You know you don’t have to come with me, right? It’s not like he is going to beat me just like he did several years ago.” Jason said to Brenda who was helping him out with his jacket. The news on the internet was getting a lot of attention from even different countries, and knowing that it wasn’t going to die down if he didn’t do anything about it, Jason decided to pay his foster parents a visit that night, discarding his initial plans to go see them the next day. “You are not going to be able to talk me out of this, Jay. I suggest you quit your attempts and allow me to come with you. Trust me, you are going to need me to support you, and I will always be by your side, Jay. No matter what.” Brenda’s words were helpful at that moment, and a bright smile appeared on Jason’s face, taking over his worried expression. “Thank you. I am glad you are coming with me, Brenda.” “Good. That’s all I needed you to say.” “But you have to go to work tomorrow, and I know how much you love

Foster Ordeal
As soon as he got the call from Brenda, Jason stepped out of the mansion and moved into the car. He drove to the hospital at once, and a few minutes after he parked the car, Brenda walked out of the building with her handbag carefully held with both hands. “Are you okay?” Jason asked, still staring at her even when she got into the car and slammed the door. “Yeah. Why?”“Nothing, love. I just wasn’t expecting that you would call me to come pick you up this early. It’s only been a few hours.” Jason looked at his Hublot wristwatch to ascertain that it wasn’t close to closing time yet. “Yeah…” Brenda grunted slowly, and after letting out the air she inhaled, she continued with a low tone. “I have just been feeling very tired lately, Jay. Even the patients I attended to noticed the difference. I think I will just rest today, probably by tomorrow I should be fine.” “Are you sure? Maybe we should go on a vacation or something. We should go…” Jason suggested, but Brenda shook her
