The Rising Phoenix: Devisee’s escapade. Take a Break
Jason stayed with his Grandfather for a few minutes until he remembered that he was supposed to have a meeting with Kelvin who had called him earlier. “Grandpa? I really have to go now, I have an appointment and it’s really important.” Jason said to his Grandfather who gave him an inquisitive stare. “You should be more interested in making Brenda your girlfriend at least before making her your wife. You should be thinking of going on another date with her.” Lord Walker teased, looking at Jason with a smile on his face. “You really don’t want to give up, old man.” “Oh no. I don’t plan to give up anytime soon. What I want you to do is settle down as soon as possible, and I will be out of your case.” Lord Walker lifted both hands and then he looked at Harry for support, but the Butler wasn’t sure of what to say. “I think you should talk to him, Harry. He probably thinks he is still a teenager. When I was your age, I was already married.” “Good Lord! Grandpa? Are you not going

Meanwhile, Jason texted an address to Kelvin a few minutes after he had driven out of the hospital premises, and then he drove to the address himself with so much anticipation written all over his face. The address he sent was an abandoned warehouse, and as soon as he arrived, he scoured the entire vicinity to be sure he was alone just before he turned off the engine of the vehicle, and sighed softly. In less than thirty minutes, he heard a tap on the window close to him, and he turned to see that Kelvin had arrived. Instantly, he unlocked the car to let him in, and Kelvin got in at once, carrying his brown backpack which he dropped on his lap as soon as he shut the door. “Good day to you, Young Master.” “Thank you, Kelvin. Thank you for coming on such short notice.” “Not a problem at all,” Kelvin responded with a smile that appeared a few seconds after he greeted Jason who nodded with a smile as well. “I hope you have some good news for me, Kelvin,” Jason asked with a l

Kelvin was silent for a few seconds while he thought about the question Jason asked him. It became obvious afterward that he wasn’t sure of the right response to give to him, and Jason sighed while he gave up any form of expectation to get any substantial response from him. “I don’t think I got anything related to that from my findings, Young Master. Dalton did most of his business with foreign clients, and even though his establishment was located in this city, it was only open to those foreigners who flew in from several countries all over the world to see him. I don’t think he had any affiliation with your family, Young Master.” Jason sighed again when Kelvin was done talking, and after he had stared at the screen of the laptop for a few seconds, he cleared his throat while the thoughts that he had in his mind continued to linger. “How does this relate to my Grandfather? Why would he want to kill him if they didn't ave anything to do with each other?” Jason whispered only to

Jason woke up in less than three hours just as soon as the alarm he had set went off. He pushed himself up from the bed and went into the bathroom to have a bath. It was already past the twentieth hour, and there were a lot of thoughts still running through his mind while the water from the shower streamed down his body. He got out as soon as he was done and put on a fresh pair of black suits, brown shoes, a Rolex watch, and a silver necklace to match. He applied to one of the colognes in his collection, and after he had looked at his reflection in the mirror in front of him for a long time, he nodded in satisfaction, and then he walked to the cabinet beside the bed where he grabbed his phone and the card given to him by Larry Bardolf when he invited him to his club after the auction. Jason was determined to find out the kind of involvement Larry had with his father, and when he heard that he had an affiliation with the man who almost killed his Grandfather, his strong will wa

It took them close to an hour to get to their destination, and as soon as James drove the car into the vicinity of the tall building, he parked a few meters in front of it while the other guard quickly got down from the car and opened the back door for Jason. “Thank you…” Jason stepped out of the car while the guard shut the door, and walked beside Jason toward the entrance of the club which boomed with deafening sounds of disco music that was accompanied by disco lights of several colors that emitted from every little opening in the building. Club Luna was the biggest club in Granada Hills and even beyond. It was a place where highly profiled men came to spend money and to see beautiful ladies who didn't mind showcasing several parts of their bodies just for the amount of money they were going to earn at the end of each party that usually listed all through the night. Apart from the casino and the pool that were in some parts of the building, there was also a VIP room that no o

Larry observed the men for a while, and he could see they were not so comfortable with the presence of the strange younger man even though he appeared to be very rich. “Calm down, guys. I know what you all are thinking, but I assure you, he can be trusted.” He said with an assuring smile on his face, but some of the men found his words really hard to believe. “Mr. Jones and I had a great time at one of the auctions I attended this month, the last one actually. He won me in a bidding, or should I say I let him win me? He was very persistent, and I really liked that style.” Larry continued while he went to a couch close to Jason and sat down without taking away the smile on his face. “You have absolutely nothing to be worried about, he is one of us, do not look at his young age. I can assure you that he is one of us.” Larry concluded, looking at the other six men one after the other. Some of them nodded in agreement, while the rest who were still not convinced gave Jason suspici

Jason leaned forward almost immediately, and so did the ladies seated at both sides who had their hands all over him. “Mr. Jones? Is everything alright?” The man asked again without taking his eyes away from Jason who cleared his throat before giving him a response. “Yeah! Absolutely, everything is alright!” He responded with a firm tone even though he avoided the man’s eyes afterward. “Maybe he has eyes for that fine young lady with you!” One of the men standing close by said with a smirk, and almost everyone laughed at his words excluding Jason who felt a bit embarrassed. “I don’t mind exchanging her with one of those ladies seated close to you. I love that one with the red lingerie, she is going to really mourn loudly!” “Oh, come on, Mr. Hernandez! You really cannot take your eyes off anything pretty! You should be focused on the beautiful lady in front of you!” Larry said to the man whom Jason had been looking at, but he scoffed at him and pushed the lady rocking him awa

Jason turned to look at Philip the moment he saw that Larry was out of sight, and he could see that the middle-aged man seated on the table in front of him was intoxicated even though he tried not to be in full control of himself. “Mr. Hernandez?” “Yes! Yes!” Philip answered at once, looking at Jason who leaned forward to him with a smile on his face. “I think I am interested in joining you guys,” Jason announced with a smile of certainty on his face, hoping that his expression was convincing enough. “Really? Are you sure about this?” “Yes! I am certain of it!” “But you didn’t even give it a thought…” “I don’t think that would be necessary, Mr. Hernandez. Who needs to give such an opportunity a second thought? Especially when it is being handed on a platter, and can even be taken away at any moment.” “You are right! I like you, you know the right things to do!” Philip chuckled excitedly while struggling to keep his eyes open as they continued to close under the influen

Shirley was silent for a while, but the men standing close to her knew that she was thinking of the right answer to give to them, so they didn’t mind waiting until she was ready to speak. Eventually, she figured out what to tell them, and sighed heavily before she spoke with a loud whisper, trying as much as she could to be audible enough. “There was this man, he came looking for my son a few weeks ago. He said he stole something from him, and that he was meant to pay back for it. I told him that my son was not home, but he said he knew where to find him. He left and never came back.” Shirley sniffled, suppressing the extra tears that tried to roll down her face from her eyes. “When my son came back, I tried to warn him about the strange man, but he never listens. I pleaded with him to go far away, but he is as stubborn as his father. A week later, some men came to the house and took us. They blindfolded us and took us to this beautiful house where there were a lot of guards.”

For over an hour, Jason and the Butler remained seated, waiting patiently for Brenda to return with some news. The silence between them was laced with a little tension, but they were hopeful that something positive was going to come out of their adventure. Ignoring the lady who was secretly taking pictures of him with her smart phone, Jason adjusted himself before clearing his throat. He turned to face Harry, and spoke with a low tone. “Harry? Can I ask you something?” “Sure, Young Master! Anything at all.” Harry adjusted slowly, ready to hear what Jason was going to say to him. “Do you think the boy will be willing to come with us if he is real? Again, how do you think I am meant to handle a situation like this? I mean, the boy could be in a very bad mess, and I would have to pull him out of it.” Jason sighed, unable to discard the worrisome look on his face. But the middle-aged man had a smile on his face, and before giving him a response, he chuckled softly. “I know y

Joe’s Cafe
The waitress discovered that two men were walking toward her, and adjusting herself with a welcoming smile on her face, she greeted them warmly. “Hello, Sir. Welcome to Joe’s Café. Do you need anything?” “Yes. Hello. We are looking for a lady called Shirley. I was told she works here.” Jason said with a smile as well, looking at the waitress whose countenance showed that she didn’t know who he was talking about. “Shirley? I don’t think I know any Shirley who works here, Sir. I am new here, but I can get you someone who could know.” “Yes, please! Thank you so much.” Harry said calmly, gesturing to the waitress who nodded before walking away, holding onto the small notepad and pen she had in her hands. “I really hope this ends well,” Jason said with a whisper, sighing firstly while he kept his eyes on the path the waitress took. The waitress returned in less than a minute with another waitress who looked older and more experienced than her. “Hello, Sirs. My name is Nora. I

For a few seconds, Jason remained silent, but it didn’t seem like that was going to solve anything. The old man was still waiting to get a response from him, and Harry was interested to know the outcome of their meeting as well. Adjusting himself to get a more comfortable posture, Jason cleared his throat and sighed before he spoke with a voice that almost sounded like a whisper. “He has a son.” He said calmly, but his words were too heavy for the other men in the room to remain as calm as he was. Lord Walker knew Jason to be a man who didn’t joke with such things but for a second, he remained calm, hoping that he was going to say he was joking. Maybe he meant to say something else. “A son?” “Yes, Grandpa. He has a son.” “Julius has a son?” Lord Walker leaned forward, and grabbed the half-empty glass of water which he consumed before returning it to the table. “Are you okay, Lord Walker?” Harry asked, moving closer to the old man who raised his hands to stop him from g

The rays from the sunlight were shining brightly through the casement windows inside the bedroom. The curtains were half closed, giving way to the rays that hit Brenda’s eyes while she groaned in her sleep. As though there was a force, she opened her eyes instantly, only to behold the sight of shirtless Jason sitting close to her with a tray in both hands. “Wakie wakie! I was worried that too were not going to wake up on time to see this.” Jason had a beautiful smile on his face while he looked at Brenda who adjusted herself slowly, sitting up while she looked at the tray he was carrying. “What’s that?” “Oh! This? I made you breakfast! I had to wake up early just to make sure that everything worked as I planned. Here…” Jason opened the dish cover to reveal the egg and sausages on the plate next to a cup of black coffee. “I tried making the coffee just like you do. I hope I tried.” Jason handed the cup of coffee to Brenda who blew on the coffee before taking a sip. “Easy! I

Special Announcement
While everyone sat comfortably, eating and drinking everything that had been set on the table, Jason picked up the glass of wine in front of him, and after looking at his Grandfather and getting the signal from him, he nodded before lifting the glass. “I have a special announcement!” He hit his fork on the brim of the glass, drawing the attention of everyone seated at the table who instantly put a hold t what they were doing, and paid keen attention to him. Everyone seemed curious to know what he was about to say except the old man who was already done eating his veggies and wiped his lips with a napkin while he maintaining a grin on his face. “First of all, I want to thank Harry for bringing his lovely family to dinner. It’s such a pleasure to have you all here. Family is everything, family is life, and I am happy that he has such a beautiful family.” Jason lifted the glass toward Harry who bowed gently, still wondering what he was up to. “Harry here has been working with thi

Jason was the first to step out of the hot tub before Brenda joined him. Handing over one of the two towels he grabbed to her, he gave her a lovely smile which made her blush while she grabbed the towel, and wrapped her body with it. “You are still staring.” Brenda said with her smile intact, but Jason couldn’t take his eyes away from her, not even for a second. “What am I going to ever do without you? You have brought me so much joy, Brenda.” “Nothing, Jay. You are going to do nothing.” Brenda chuckled while Jason nodded without getting rid of his smile. “You are right. Absolutely nothing, that’s what I am going to do if I ever lose you.” “Well, I am not leaving anytime soon. I am here with you, my love.” Brenda patted Jason on both cheeks before she turned and walked toward the bedroom, holding onto her towel with both hands. “We must hurry, Jay! We are having guests, remember?”“Oh, right! I almost forgot about that!” Jason rushed into the room, and got dressed alongsi

Price to Pay
For a few seconds Jason was silent while he exchanged glances with the couple, not sure of who he was to face. It was obvious that they were expecting to hear him speak, but the silence in the room was killing them, having more effect on Lucas who couldn’t forget the words he said to him. He was afraid that the day of reckoning had come, and it was time to pay for all his crimes. Still unable to stop himself from finger mg, especially at the sight of Ramon who gave him threatening looks, Lucas decided to grab his bottle, hoping to get back some of his composure from a gulp. “What’s that?” Jason’s calm words stopped Lucas from grabbing the bottle from the ground, causing him to remain still while he lifted his face slowly to look at him, patches of guilt all over his face. “I can’t believe this.” Jason scoffs. “You really want to drink right now. You have really drowned yourself in so much alcohol. I bet you dream of drinking while you sleep.” Jason sighed softly, and remain

Everyone remained silent amidst the tension that surrounded the air. While Lucas kept his eyes on Jason who remained still with a smirk on his face, he struggled with the contemplation of either remaining where he was standing, or moving backward. For a second, he took two steps backward, but because it felt as though his body no longer belonged to him, he couldn’t move afterward. “Hello… Dad. I see you haven’t left your old habits.” Jason pointed at the bottle of whiskey which Lucas tightly held onto even in the midst of the cringe that engulfed him. “It’s you.” Lucas’ voice was shaky. And while he held onto the half-empty bottle, he gently lifted it up to look at it, filled with thoughts of his numerous drinking adventures. It was true that he was intoxicated at that moment, but the sight of Jason and his companions made the effects of the whiskey wear off at once, leaving him to struggle with the situation. “I am just going to let myself in. Excuse me…” Jason gestured to
