Ordeal

“We got a job in one of the factories in the town, where we helped to package the goods they made before shipping. The pay wasn’t enough, but we were okay with it, as long as it was able to feed us.”

Rose paused for a few seconds, and then she cleared her throat twice, with her eyes seeming like they were about to let down more tears. She blinked severally in an attempt to stop the tears from flowing, and it worked for her.

“Everything was going fine until the Baroness met us on our way home, and offered to help us. She promised to take us out of the streets and make sure our lives changed for the better. I had always wanted to become an artist, and I felt it was an opportunity for me to attend art school.”

Rose had a smile on her face the moment she started to speak of her dream of going to art school. Jason could see that she really desired to fulfill her dreams, but her smile vanished abruptly a few seconds later, and she returned her sad face.
