Chapter 3

At that moment, Liam's eyes flew wide open and his jaws dropped. “Is that you, Mr Bruce?”

Although Liam didn't grow up at home, he could easily recognize the voice of his father's butler. The man often calls him when he was still living with his late Aunt. Unfortunately, the last call he got from Bruce was a distressing one.

His father suddenly went missing and Bruce asked him not to go home yet. He was afraid that the people who kidnapped his father might come after him. Bruce's plan was to find Richard Sawyer before calling Liam home.

“Yeah, it's me, Bruce. Your father has asked me to call you to come back home.”

“What really happened to him and how did you find him?” Liam was curious and kept throwing questions at the man.

“You need to calm down, young master. Your father is resting right now and will explain everything to you when you come around tomorrow.” The man replied to him with a voice that conveys his high spirit. He must be so elated to finally see his boss come back in one piece.

Since Liam's Uncle and his family took over everything in Richard's absence, Bruce went back to his house while looking for ways to find his boss.

The people who kidnapped Richard Sawyer never called to ask for ransom so Bruce suspected that it must be a conspiracy from David Sawyer, Richard's only brother. Unfortunately, they could not trace anything to him.

David, on the other hand, pretended to be helping in searching for his brother.

“Oh. Ok…” Liam replied, his voice unsteady and his expression evidence of a confused person. However, he decided to find out what had really transpired when he got back home.

The Westons have no idea who he was and it was obviously time to teach every of his offenders a big lesson. It was time for him to go home and take his rightful place as his father's only heir.

After the death of his mother, Richard Sawyer had sent him away at a tender age to live with his Aunt like a commoner and learn some life lessons before going back home to take his place.

Lost in his thoughts, Liam was jolted back to reality by a heavy knock on the door, followed by a scolding from a voice he recognized as that of his mother in-law.

“What are you doing in there when you should be out here attending to the guests? Come out and make yourself useful, you are just a good for nothing man.”

Although he was offended by Patricia Weston's hurtful words, Liam didn't reply back and quietly opened the door.

“I thought you people didn't want me out there because of my outfit?” Liam spoke calmly but got a disdainful look from the woman.

“Go out there and attend to our guests now.” Patricia ordered, her voice commanding.

Without another word, Liam obeyed his mother in-law. However, that would be the last time he'd let himself be demeaned by anyone.

“Over here, waiter.” Tyler gave him a mocking smile as he picked up a drink from the tray on Liam's hand.

“I think this waiting job suits you. I know that the face scares people away, but I don't think there's anything they can do about it. A man like you is gotta survive.”

Tyler Graham was a rich guy chasing after his wife and the Westons approved of him for Miranda. Because of Tyler, his parents in-laws have been pestering him to divorce their daughter.

All he knew was that he'd never ask Miranda for a divorce. However, if she wants out, he won't hold back even though it'll hurt him because he loved her dearly.

Liam watched in silence as Tyler made his way towards where his wife was standing.

Miranda also greeted him with a nod. She was aware of his intentions towards her but was not really interested in him. Miranda only had a good relationship with Tyler because of her family. Moreover, she didn't want to get on her parents' nerves by pushing Tyler completely away.

Lifting up his right hand, Tyler reached for her face and tried to help her tuck in some strands of her hair. However, before he could touch her, a large hand grabbed his hand, stopping him from achieving the act.

With a ruffled face, Tyler turned his face and saw that it was Liam holding his hand.

“Don't you dare lay a finger on my wife again. I'm certain that there are many single ladies in this town, why won't you pick one of them?”

“How can you be going after someone else's wife? Have you no shame?”

Liam was furious and angrily shoved the man's hand away. His action also infuriated Tyler and he reached out to give Liam a slap but the latter caught his hand.

In retaliation, Liam punched Tyler's face and their little ruckus attracted the attention of everyone present at the place.

“Liam, what has gotten into you? When did you become this violent?”

Miranda, who was the reason for the conflict among the men, angrily scolded her husband.

Taking the chance, Tyler closed in on Liam but two men held him back. They were Liam's father in-law and Kimberly's husband, Bernard.

“You're bringing yourself down by trying to get your hands dirty. Someone of your status shouldn't be seen engaging in a combat with him. You can get someone else to do the job for you.” Bernard advised while Eric Weston supported him.

“Don't you worry yourself, Tyler. I'll make sure that the leech leaves my daughter alone.” Eric added. Although he was Miranda's father, he was not as active as his wife who was a fiesty person.

“You'll regret punching someone like me. I promise you.” Tyler gave Liam a death stare before pulling out of the men's grip. Angrily, he stormed out of the place but was halted by Patricia's voice.

“Tyler, wait. Don't leave yet.”

In a very confused state, the people's attention was now divided. Some were staring at Tyler and Liam while others were curious to know what Patricia was going to do.

Swiftly, the woman raced towards Liam and gave him a resounding slap that caught him unawares.

“How dare you lay your hands on my worthy future son in-law? What gave you the nerve?”

Although Liam had taken a lot of insults from her in-laws, none of them had physically abused him. He still could not believe that his mother in-law gave him a slap because of Tyler and before everyone.

With his left hand massaging his cheeks, Liam saw his wife's disapproving look. She wasn't happy about that slap. While everyone else was happy about the slapping sight, Miranda scolded her mother.

“Mom, you didn't have to slap him. He's still my husband, remember.”

Without casting a glance at her daughter, Patricia spoke in a disgusting manner. “This is not how a husband should be.”

“Liam, you're going to apologize to Tyler now.”
