Chapter 4

With his left hand still on his cheek, Liam let out a dry chuckle and turned to see Tyler sneering at him.

“Go on and apologize.”

As his face scanned all the faces around, Liam could see their disappointed looks. No one seems to be on his side. Lady Mary was staring at him as though she wanted to kill him with her eyes. Liam could also see Kimberly giving him a dirty look. His cousins in-law and their parents were at a place laughing over the whole matter.

At that moment, the atmosphere at the place was very tense.

“It's ok, I'll apologize on his behalf.” Miranda's words cut through the tense atmosphere and she could see many disappointed gazes.

“What?” Patricia was more disappointed in her younger daughter.

“Mira, come on. Let him apologize for his misdeeds.” Hailey's voice was heard as she tried to stop her friend from standing up for her husband.

“Yes, stop tolerating his excesses. Let him apologize. Remember Tyler had promised to help you in your business. If your worthless husband stands in the way, it'll be bad for you.” Jane added.

It was true that Tyler wanted to offer Miranda a helping hand so as to expand her business . However, he needed something else in return.

“You are not going to apologize to that man.” Liam spoke, his voice cold and devoid of any emotions. Angrily, he stormed out of the place after giving Tyler a dirty look.

“Don't you dare come back to my house again.” Patricia's hurtful words flew past his ears but he ignored her and got into a taxi. He was not going to sleep in the house that night.

Liam called Bruce and the man sent him some money to pay for a hotel.

The next morning, Liam got ready with the change of clothes he bought. He'd be going to meet with his father after a long time. He had really missed him and it was the same for Richard Sawyer. He misses his only son but had to part ways with him to keep him safe.

It was all for Liam's own good.

Upon his arrival at the entrance of LR real estate company, he was stopped by security from going in.

“Hey you, there's no job opening for a cleaner. Just go back to where you're coming from.”

Not only did the guard stop him from getting into the building, he was also demeaned.

Liam laughed at the man's ignorance and replied. “Go and tell the manager that his boss has arrived.”

Liam didn't know who the manager was but was very sure that he must have been enlightened by his father.

Although Richard Sawyer was expecting Liam to go home first, he had instructed Bruce to direct him to the company. Liam had never been to any of his father's company. The man was only waiting for the right time to hand over everything to him.

While the security guard gave Liam a disgusting look, Liam ignored the man and began to scan the place. With pursed lips, he said to himself. “This is not bad.”

The place was huge and beautiful.

“Get away from here before I call the police. I won't warn you again.” The security guard barked angrily and took out his phone to make a call but had to stop when the entrance door was flung open.

“Hey, Mr Sawyer. Good to finally see you.” An average looking man in his late forties approached Liam and stretched out his hands for a handshake.

Liam had earlier informed Bruce that he was outside the LR real estate building so the latter sent a message across.

“Mr. Sawyer?”

Stunned, the security guard repeated the words as he stared at the men exchanging a handshake before him.

“My name is Sean Garrett and I'm the manager here. Your father has been waiting for you.”

Sean turned to the security guard and saw his sober mood. “Lance, I hope you didn't give the boss any trouble?”

“Actually, he's been throwing shades at me. Can you believe he thought that I came here for a cleaning job.” Liam responded while sneering at the security guard.

His response angered Sean who instantly frowned at Lance. “How dare you? In fact, you're fired so get your things and leave this premises immediately.”

The security guard instantly fell on the ground in remorse. He tried to apologize to the men but Sean had led Liam into the building.

“Ignore him. Next time, he'd learn not to judge a book by its cover.”

Without another word, Liam followed the man into the building and to the private elevator of Richard Sawyer.

While they marched in, Liam could hear whispers of gossip among the other staff members. They were wondering the identity of the ugly man walking alongside their manager. And the man was also not well dressed.

Ignoring the staff, the two men made their way to the CEOs office. When the time is right, they'd learn about Liam's identity.

Once he was alone in his father's office and standing before the man, Richard could not express his shock, especially with the scar on Liam's face.

They often communicated on video calls. However, Liam's face was not like that when he saw him last.

As their eyes met, a gasp escaped Richard's mouth. “Wh…What happened to your face?” He stammered.

At that moment, Richard regretted sending his son away. Now look at what has happened to him.

Liam didn't reply to his father, instead he ran and gave him a hug. “I miss you Dad. Tell me who kidnapped you and I'll go after them one after the other.”

“I'm fine now, Son. Do not worry yourself about that. It's good that you're back. Now tell your old man what happened to your face.”

Liam pulled out of the embrace and went to sit down on the couch. “It was an accident and I don't want to bore you with the unfortunate details.”

Going back to his seat, Richard stared deeply at his son and saw that he's really changed. He was now very mature and the scar on his face made him look older.

“Ok. If you insist. However, you must get rid of it. A little surgery will clean that up.”

“Yeah Dad. I'll have surgery but not yet.” Liam replied and stood up from his chair. He went to pour himself some drink and began to sip before going back to his chair.

“What happened to you Dad? Why did you suddenly disappear? I also heard that Uncle David took over everything in your absence.”

“Are you sure he has nothing to do with your disappearance?”

“We can point fingers without proof.” Richard replied immediately before standing up from his chair.

“What's more important now is that I'm back and you're also back to take back your place. Now, this is your new seat as the CEO of LR real estate company.”

“Hmph.” Liam chuckled in delight. “Thank you Dad. However, I'd like to inform you that I'll be ghosting for now. I don't want people to know me yet.”

“Ok. As you wish.” Richard nodded in understanding.

“I'd also like to inform you that I'm married now. I had wanted to give you the information when Bruce gave me that distressing news of your disappearance.”

“You're married.” Richard repeated, his voice was a mixture of amazement and perplexity.

Stunned, he gaped at his son for a while. That was the last news he was expecting to hear from his boy.

Liam nodded his head. “Yes Dad, I'm married but…”
