The Black Lotus Bar

The moment Reed's fleet of cars pulled up outside the Black Lotus bar, the world came to a standstill.

All eyes were turned to the luxurious collections glittering under the star lit sky.

Reeds sat quietly at the rear seats of the Rolls-Royce, staring inside the bar through the window. He could make out his wife seated beside a man, her arms intimately linked with his arms.

The dim lights of the bar made it difficult for him to capture the entire picture, but one was for sure. That was his wife and she was having drinks with another man.

Furious with rage, Reeds stepped out of the car, ignoring the fact that he had drawn the attention of passersby outside the bar.

How could she? Reeds decided there and then that he won't reveal his secret to Karyl for now. Instead, he'll keep pretending to be poor inorder to test his wife. He'll give her one last chance.

"Take the cars away and Leave me,” he ordered the chauffeur.

The men raced the fleet of cars away from the bar premises as commanded. Reeds began to walk up towards the grand entrance of the Black Lotus Bar.

He clenched his jaws and fists as he watched Karyl laughing with Zayn Raymond. So it was true. His wife was out with another man, and on their daughter's birthday.

Fishing out his phone, he took a seat a stone throw away from her and called her number again.

Karyl hissed when her phone rang and she saw who the caller ID belonged to.

Reeds watched her closely as she excused herself and answered impatiently.

"What the hell, Reeds," Karyl hissed on the line. "I'm busy. Didn't I tell you not to disturb me?"

Reeds clenched his jaws again. "Seraphina is getting worried. It's late. When are you coming home to celebrate our daughter's birthday?"

Karyl pinched the bridge of her nose in frustration. "For crying out loud, Reeds. You're not going to ruin my night. Please don't call me again. I'll get home when I get home. Go to sleep."

Reeds frowned. "Is that so? Well, before you hang up, turn around."

"What?" Karyl raised an eyebrow.

"Turn around."

Karyl slowly turned and her eyes came jamming with her husband's.

For a brief moment, she caught her breath sharply and panicked, but she quickly composed herself.

"Is there a problem, Karyl?" Zayn Raymond asked. He couldn't see Reeds in the dimly lit bar. "Your face looks flushed."

"My apologies, Mr. Raymond," Karyl smiled at him. "Could you spare me a few minutes?"

A mischievous glint appeared in Zayn's eyes. "Sure, Why not."

Meanwhile, as soon as Karyl stood up and left, Zayn secretly slipped an aphrodisiac into her drink. He planned to take Karyl to his hotel room tonight whatever it takes.

* * * *

Karyl approached Reeds, grabbed his arm and jerked him to his feet. "What in the world are you doing here, Reeds?" She demanded.

Reeds cocked his head. "I thought I might drop by. Care to explain what this is about?"

"I don't see how that's any of your business, Reeds," Karyl whispered. "You're the househusband and I'm a career woman. I did what I had to."

"By hanging out with another man?" Reeds asked.

"It's not like I'm going to sleep with him or anything," Karyl retorted. "Raymond asked me out for a drink and I couldn't refuse him."

Reeds ran his hands over his face. "Karyl, for crying out loud, you're my wife. It's an insult to me when you hang out with another man. I can't believe you'd snub our daughter's birthday just to have drinks with that scumbag."

Karyl sighed in exasperation. "It's not like I have a choice. If you had enough money to support my company then maybe I wouldn’t have to go out drinking with investors."

Looking at Karyl’s face, Reeds felt a sudden sense of unfamiliarity.

He was a failure? That was ridiculous. He simply didn’t like flaunting his wealth, but his wife looked down on him and credited all his achievements to other men?

She continued after a pause. "Raymond is a very important investor in my company. If he pulls out his investment, the company will collapse within a month. And when that happens, our whole family will starve. But you? You can’t do a damn thing to help me because you're broke!"

She leaned away from him, her eyes wandering around the bar. "It's my job to keep my investors happy. I need their fundings or else my company is finished."

Reed’s mind went blank.

He felt as if he had been utterly humiliated and betrayed. "You didn't have to go out drinking with him. Can't you see he's trying to bed you? If you need funding, come to me. I can help."

Karyl looked impatiently at him. "You? What can you offer? You're a kept husband who can't even afford the groceries unless I provide the money for it. Raymond on the other hand is a billionaire, worth over $1.9 billion. You can't earn that even if you work for a thousand years."

Reed's rage threatened to consume him. "I'm not useless, Karyl. If I wanted to, I could destroy Zayn Raymond's entire company overnight and make your company the number one enterprise in the city."

After all, Zayn's company is nothing more than a tiny branch under the Higgins family.

“Look, Reeds,” Karyl glanced over her shoulders at Zayn. "Quit being a delusional braggart, Reeds. It's not a good look on you. You're all talk with no real actions to back your words. Now leave. I have to finish my meeting with Mr. Raymond."

“Screw that,” Reeds reached out and grabbed her arm. "Give me ten minutes. I'll secure a $5 million order for your company right now."

"There's a man who has been causing me a bit of trouble. I don't like him. I'll need you to investigate him thoroughly and get back to me right away." Archibald's voice grew cold from the other line. Zayn Suddenly burst into hysterical laughter. "Now I know you must have lost your mind. The Higgins family's business spans across the world. As a matter of fact, I'm a member of their branches. If you're truly the heir, why have I never heard of you before?" Reeds stepped forward to Zayn. "It's not too late. You will find out soon enough." "I've had it with your lies, Reeds," Karyl snapped. "I don't believe you no matter what you say. You're a troublemaker. Stop it. I've lost all hope for you." Reeds could see what was happening. Since Zayn was a key figure in the Higgins family branch, Reed's claims were nothing but a ridiculous fabrication. Reeds raised his hands, his voice low. "Karyl, darling. I'm not making this up. You've got to believe me this time." Karyl shook her head. "I don't. I'm deeply disappointed i

Panic jumped in Karyl's eyes as she saw the vengeful state Zayn was in. She turned to Reeds, her eyes blowing like twin explosions. "Get out, Reeds. Get out, now!" Reeds watched as she helped Zayn up to his feet, while leading him to a chair. "Why do you care so much for him more than me?" Reeds asked, clenching his hands. "You've never given me this treatment before." "For christ sake, get the hell out, Reeds," Karyl shouted at him. "I don't ever want to see your face around me again. • The Secret Heir Husband   Seraphina defends Reeds

For Karyl to be back home the minute after he left the black Lotus Bar could only mean one thing. She had discovered the truth. • The conference meeting

The next day, a shareholders meeting was held in Karyl's company. The atmosphere of the room was charged with tension as Zayn stood up and broke the silence."I have an announcement to make," he paused to stare directly at Karyl who was seated at the other end of the table. "I'm withdrawing my investment. Every single cent."The conference room broke out in a collective gasp. So the rumours they all heard last night about Zayn pulling out his funding were true. The other shareholders and board members were alarmed by this new development. As the second largest shareholder, Zayn's exit would leave the company in a precarious position."But wait, this isn't a joking matter," a shareholder cried. "We'll be ruined without your funding.""We're in the middle of an expansion, Zayn. How do you expect us to recover from this?""Be reasonable, Mr. Raymond. • Home

A taxi pulled up outside the giant iron gates of the Higgins residence.A line of household staff in red and white uniforms stood at attention along the driveway, their faces set. As Reeds opened the rear door and stepped out of the taxi along with Seraphina the household staff all bowed their heads deeply in perfect unison."Welcome back home, master Reeds!" They greeted Reeds.Reeds smiled for the first time that evening. This was far better than the ridicule and coldness he had experienced at Karyl's home."Dad, where are we?" Seraphina asked, looking confused. Before Reeds could answer her, Archibald emerged from the building and approached Reeds."Young master, it's so good to have you back home. And I see you brought the little Miss with you,” Archibald bowed slightly to Seraphina, “welcome to the Higgins household, miss Seraphina.”Reeds glanced at Seraphina. "This is Archibald, honey. Do not inform the Higgins family about this."Zayn grimaced. "And why shouldn't I? Theft is a big crime in this part of our world. You of all people should know that.""I know," Karyl passed her tongue across her lips. "That's why I'm begging you not to call the Higgins family. I'll have The Tear of the Rose returned to you."Zayn slowly brought down his phone from his ears. "Now you're talking, Karyl. You do that. For the sake of your husband."Karyl turned to Reeds and ordered him, "Reeds, return the diamond to Mr, Raymond."Reeds gripped the necklace tighter. "I won't."Karyl frowned. "That wasn't a request, Reeds. You're setting a bad example for our child. You didn't have to steal to prove anything to anybody. Admit your mistake and do what's right."Reeds didn't say anything. He glanced at Seraphina.Karyl continued as she approa

The Tear of the Rose? The worth of the jewelry was over $10 million which means Reeds was telling the truth. This Revelation caused an outrage as everyone started arguing with one another over the genuity of the necklace. No one could believe the gem was real. There was no way. Zayn stepped forward, his eyes widened. "There must be a mistake. Are you sure of what you're saying?"Mr. Potts frowned. "Why not? I've been in this business for thirty years. This necklace is the real deal."Karyl stepped forward. "Mr. Potts is the most authoritative appraiser I'm the city. There's no way he could be wrong."Everyone became silent as they considered Karyl's words. If Mr. Potts says the necklace was the Tear of the Rose, then there was no doubting him.Reeds smiled. To see Karyl suddenly come for his defense made him happy. It seems she's finally starting to believe him.But his joy was short-lived as Karyl turned to him and spoke, "Reeds, I want you to turn yourself in."Reed's smile slipp

  • Tear Of The Rose

At this point, Reeds was sick and tired of the whole thing. No matter what he says, no one would believe him. What's the use? He didn't buy this gift just so he could prove anything to anybody."I refuse," Reeds replied to Zayn. "I don't need an appraiser to prove my gift is genuine. You brought a diamond gift for my mother-in-law. I don't see anyone demanding an appraiser to check if yours is real or fake."Reeds refusal to have his gift appraised was frowned upon by everyone."What's this?" Zayn inclined his head. "It seems like you're afraid you'll get exposed if your gift is appraised.""It's not that," Reeds said."Then What is?" Zayn fired back, turning to face the crowd. "If he's not afraid of getting exposed, then why is he refusing an appraiser? Sounds sketchy to me."The guests nodded in agreement with Zayn. A loud murmur broke out:"He's hiding something. If it's real, just prove it already!""Only a guilty man would refuse an appraiser.""Pathetic. This just confirms it's

  • Call the appraiser

Karyl folded her arms, her face as hard as nails. Everything that was occurring right now was all Reeds fault, she thought. If he hadn't presented such an inferior item, he wouldn't be ridiculed in the first place.Reeds watched Karyl's reaction closely, feeling a deep sense of disappointment settling deep in his bones. He knew deep down that no matter what he said, his wife wouldn't believe him. She had already revealed that in her actions. The way she refused to meet his eyes, the way she stood closer to Zayn than him. Only Seraphina, their daughter, stood up for him. His own wife was siding with another man against him while his daughter was out here, defending him. What kind of wife was Karyl anyway? At that moment, Zayn stepped up to Reeds, dangling the necklace from his fingers. "I believe this belongs to you," he handed Reeds the necklace, a jeering note in his voice. Reeds snatched it back from his hand without so much as a word. Zayn hides a smirk. He was enjoying Reed

  • Zayn's scheme for revenge

All these while, Seraphina had been watching the whole scene in silence. She hated the way Zayn had humiliated her father publicly. She hated it more as no one else was coming for her father's defense. Not even her mother. "That was my dad's gift," she said sharply, frowning directly at Zayn. "You shouldn't have done that." Everyone including Zayn was startled at Seraphina's outburst. She looked so angry. Reeds regarded his daughter and saw how hurt she was. It must be overbearing for her to watch her father get humiliated in public like that. He shielded his daughter behind him and faced Zayn. "You have no rights to smash my gift to the floor, Zayn. Pupick it , now!" Zayn scoffed. "And why should I do that?" Reeds glared at him. "Because you obviously offended my daughter by dishonoring her father in public. You must make amends for that." Zayn was startled. He knew Reeds struck a good point. It sets a bad tone for Zayn if the little girl gets defensive of her father.

  • Get out

Everyone was so startled by Reed's gift that they couldn't speak for a while. However, the reaction Reeds got was not what he expected.Karyl's cousin laughed loudly. "$10 million. Do you take us for fools? There's no way you could afford such a thing. It's nothing more than an ordinary glass bead."A mocking laughter broke out across the hall as everyone considered this a possibility.Reeds is too broke to splurge $10 million on a diamond. He can't even afford groceries."Reeds," Madam Evelyn said, her eyebrows drawn to a frown. "How dare you embarrass me in front of my guests!""I'm not," Reeds said confidently. "I swear on my life. This diamond is real.""Madam Evelyn, if I may," Zayn said. "Reeds diamonds are fake. It's an incredibly good replica. I've seen ten of these everywhere."Reeds felt blood rush to his face. "It's real," Reeds clenched his teeth. "Don't say what you don't know."Karyl stepped before Reeds, her eyes fierce. "Reeds for once in your life, could you quit em
