03. The Secret Heir

"I told you not to take him roughly!" the old man shouted again, Javier continued to stare at him in confusion.

"They all bowed to him, those scary men didn't even dare to look at the old man or reply to him."

"Who exactly is this old man?" Javier wondered again. He was the only one looking at the old man.

"And why did he scold them?" Javier found it strange that he was the one kidnapped but the old man didn't do anything bad to him, instead he scolded the man who brought him here.

"You told them to bring me here?" Javier finally got the courage to ask and the old man finally looked at him. At first Javier was afraid that the man would scold him too or do something bad, but the man smiled when he heard Javier's question.

The old man sat in front of Javier in a very polite manner as if Javier was someone he respected.

"What's with this old man? Strange man," Javier muttered.

"That's right, sir. I told them to bring you here, but I should have told them to be polite and nice to you," the old man replied.

"What do you mean, you kidnapped me here!" Javier shouted. Although the old man spoke politely to him, he couldn't believe it quickly because he had been kidnapped earlier.

"What do you want from me? I don't even have anything, so let me go now!" Javier stood up from his seat and was about to run away, but the two men standing behind him stopped him.

"No, let him go!" The old man didn't let them touch Javier again or do anything rude to him. Javier was surprised, he stood still as the old man just sat down and didn't stop him from leaving at all.

"Sir, I didn't kidnap you and I'll let you go after talking to you," the old man said.

"Talk about what? I don't even know you," Javier asked and the old man smiled back.

"But I know you..."

"How do you know me?" The old man didn't answer, he pointed at the chair in front of him.

"You can go back to your seat before I explain." Finally, out of curiosity, Javier sat back down in front of the old man.

"My name is Adam, I'm the butler of someone you're related to." The old man's name was Adam, but Javier had never known anyone named Adam nor had he ever met him.

"Someone I'm related to? Who?" Javier asked again.

"Your family." Adam's answer confused Javier even more, making him think that Adam was a crazy man who was making up a fake story to trap him.

"Do you think I'm stupid? Even though I'm a poor man, I don't fall for scams like this!" Javier exclaimed angrily.

"I have no family, so don't cheat me and let me go now! Or I'll call the police," Javier threatened, taking his cell phone out of his pants pocket and about to call the police. But Adam didn't seem fazed at all, the old man just stayed silent and stared at Javier. They didn't stop Javier at all, which made Javier a little hesitant.

"You once had a family, sir. You just don't know it and I'm the butler of your family," Adam explained again, making Javier hesitate to call the police.

"Your name is Javier Linford, right? I've known the Linford family for a long time, even your father, Joshua Linford."

"My father?" Javier didn't know his mom or dad at all, he didn't even remember anything about his family. Since childhood he was always alone and the Watsons, or Blaire's family took care of him even though they treated Javier badly.

"That's right, you're the only child of Mr. Joshua and Mrs. Carol," Adam said. Javier thought Adam was making it up, but the expression on the old man's face was serious and made Javier believe him.

"So what I want to talk to you about is your family and where you came from, Mr. Javier you may not know that your family was once a powerful and influential family."

"But your family had to be destroyed because it was betrayed and you were so young that you couldn't remember," Adam explained, Javier just listened to Adam's explanation. Javier couldn't believe that he came from such a family.

"Your foster parents, the Watsons, were once followers of your family, they worked for Mr. Joshua." Javier widened his eyes in surprise, he didn't expect that his wife's family knew all this and they even worked for his father.

"I never knew that, why didn't they ever tell me about this?" Javier asked.

"Of course because they didn't want you to know, they hid it on purpose. They've always been sneaky, they saw an opportunity after your family was destroyed and they took you in and pretended to be your savior."

"But they legally took away the wealth that should have been yours." No wonder they hated Javier so much, it was because they had taken what Javier had and thrown it away after getting what they wanted. He had never been treated well since he was a child, only Blaire had always been on his side.

"They've gone too far, and now I'm being forced to divorce Blaire when they're the ones making me miserable," Javier muttered, feeling it wasn't fair to him. He was furious, but he had nothing to lose because they had taken him away, he couldn't even keep his marriage to Blaire because of them.

Adam noticed the expression on Javier's face and knew that Javier was angry. He was right to be angry that his life was difficult because of the Watsons, but now that he had found Javier, he had a plan.

"You may feel it's unfair, but you don't have to worry now, sir." Javier's daydream broke and he looked back at Adam.

"Of course it's not fair! Those who made me miserable like this, they will never let me live happily!" Javier retorted.

"Sir, I'm sorry that I was late in finding you. You really have nothing to worry about now, as they are probably satisfied with the large amount of money and property they have stolen, not realizing that they have only taken a fraction of what is really theirs."

"Most of your family's wealth has been kept safe by me over the years, and I'm glad that I was able to find you again." Javier's explanation was now starting to make Javier feel dizzy.

"So now I'm a young master from a wealthy family? But do I deserve that wealth and money? It's like a dream."

"This can't be, this is some kind of new joke or something, right? I don't believe this. Or were you told by the Watsons to get Blaire to divorce me? No, I wouldn't do that!" Javier refused to believe anymore, this was too good to be true.

Javier laughed as if it was all a joke, but Adam pulled Javier's hand as if he was pleading with him.

"You are the last surviving heir of the richest and most powerful Linford family, so I'm asking you to return to claim your rightful place," Adam said again seriously. Javier's laughter stopped, he wanted to wake up from his dream but this was reality.
