“Miss,” the old beggar hesitantly asked, “can you hear me?”

“Oh, I can very much hear your heartbeat,” Jessica replied, controlling herself from hissing at him. She and her brother were always very close to ending up on the streets, so she could totally understand the act that the beggar was putting up. “I know you must be going through a tough period, but if you think that will justify anything and everything you do, then you’re gravely mistaken.”

“I-I don’t understand what you’re talking about, Miss,” the old beggar looked confused.

“I know you get what I meant,” Jessica blurted. “I suggest that you leave before the guards show up, or they’re going to handle you roughly.” She warned him and entered the building.
