CHAPTER 39

The next morning.

Jessica spent the last night without eating anything. She was so hungry she couldn’t even sleep. To add to her stress, her brother didn’t come home until dawn. When she asked him where he went, he put thirty dollars in her hand. When she asked how he earned the money, he didn’t answer.

“You didn’t steal from a beggar, did you?” Jessica demanded an answer. He went into his room and shut his door. She put the money outside. “I’m not spending it until I know how you earned it.” Saying that, she went out, looking for a new job yet again.

Her mobile rang. It was Irene calling.

“Hey, I’m heading out to look for a job,” Jessica answered. “We’ll talk later.”

“Actually, I called you to tell you there’s a walk-in interview for a CEO’s PA post for a tech company,” Irene excitedly said. “Are you interested?”

“PA?” Jessica shook her head. “Is the CEO a female?”

“I think it’s a male.”

“Then, no. I’m not interested in working as a personal assistant for some male.”
