CHAPTER SIX: Another Bombshell

Just as James wished, they were able to obtain something they could use to identify the killer during the investigation. They discovered a collection of glass that they believed belonged to the killer but in order not to jump into conclusion, they sent it to the Forensic unit for critical analysis and identification of the owner.

Fortunately for the police, the forensic unit conveyed positive news to them. It didn't belong to the victim,so they concluded that it belongs to the killer.

Even though it was not really a lead to the killer but the fact that they found something that belonged to the killer was a joy on it's own that they were progressing.

" With the way it's going, there's a possibility that there's going to be another murder soon and there's no lead to that. The only way we can nab the serial killer is the time he's trying to kill someone on the scene with the way I'm looking at it," James started his speech.

" The first murder was in Fernard, then followed by the one in Kost, which town do you think is the next murder?" James asked, and was using a pen to indicate the town on the map.

" If the killer is trying to kill people from each town in RAWS, then we should pay attention to the towns. He started with Fernard the smallest town followed by Kost which is a little bigger than Fernard. Then the possible town for the next murder will probably be Deng,"Leon answered brilliantly.

" The only problem is the date for the crime which is a little bit complicated," he uttered, and sighed in reaction to the statement which shows that he's bothered.

" That is true,we don't know the time and day he is planning to perpetrate his evil. But I think there's something we can actually do even though it's not really a counter measure," Mark said.

" If it will help in stopping the death of the people, then it's worth listening to," James answered calmly.

" Since we've concluded that Deng is likely the next location for the murder, why not deploy police all over the open places. The killer loves killing people in an open place then we should deploy police all over the places at least he will show up in a place and without knowing encounters the police, then that will be the end," Mark replied.

" Any other suggestion before we conclude?" James asked.

" Since there's no other suggestion, that is what we are going to do," He said with a tone of finality.

Just as they contrived, they deployed men all around Deng to preclude the next murder from happening under their nose. They were stationed to protect the people and if they suspect that someone is acting strangely, they should apprehend him even if it will require the use of force just as they thought they've analysed perfectly.

The first day went on without disruption from anybody but they believe that it might actually not be the fixed day for the murder.

They rested for a while in the morning before they continued their job. They believe that he could not kill early in the morning since people might still be indoor and the killer derives joy in killing people where a lot of people gather.

The next day also went without any issue or noticing any strange or suspicious person. What kept them going was that they didn't hear any news of murder from other places that can be linked to his style of killing.

James and three other men were still at the station in order to notify them of any news from other places and also for all other operations since that is not the only case their squad is in charge of handling.

On the third day in that same Deng, something unfortunate occured that left the police in dilemma. In one of the area the police were safeguarding, two masked men dropped two dead bodies of people and flee.

The police seeing this chased them while Ken who was one of the presiding police put a call to James to inform him of the situation of things.

James told him to wait for them and promised to join him soon to start the chase with the police to pursue the individuals wearing masks since it's believed that one of them will definitely be the killer.

James joined Ken soon and they began the chase with Ken directing him through the tracking device he dropped in one of the police pocket so as to make it easy for them to join the chase.

As they were going, someone was calling James and the person turned out to be the police chief. He didn't pick the call since he believe it was about the operation they went for and continued driving.

The tracking device directed them to a river at the extreme end of the town and that was where it stopped. Thinking that the killer was there, they got down quickly to join the other remaining police officers only to meet them sitting down near the river obviously waiting for them.

" What happened? I thought you were chasing the killer," James said. He was surprised to find them sitting down when he thought they were already fighting the killer.

" We lost them when we got here and after searching the nook and cranny of this place with no sign of them,we decided to sit down and wait for you to join us," one of them said in defense.

" How did that happen? I thought you pursued them and were right behind them," he queried.

" Exactly,we were right behind them but in the twinkle of an eye, they disappeared under our nose. We missed them we don't know how they did it," one of the police officers answered.

" This people might be influential than we thought. They even murdered two people under the close watch of the police," he said, but was stopped by the incessant noise emanating from his phone.

He checked his phone again and saw that it's the Police Chief. He decided to pick it to brief him about the situation of things.

" Why didn't you pick the call before?" The police chief queried angrily.

" We were chasing the killer when you called but unfortunately we lost them," James said, though he was wondering what triggered his anger.

He is a man that does not get angrily easily and he knows there might actually be another reason for his anger.

" Did anything happen at the station?" He asked worriedly.

" Nothing happened in the station, though something bigger that that has happened," the police chief said now trying to calm down.

" What happened, Sir?" He asked impatiently, for he was getting tired of suspense.

" The police commissioner is dead."
