"Of course, it isn't ending here all he is trying to say, is for us to take a break on the case" Kyrian whispered.

Timi turned away, his mind still wrestling with the possibilities. "A break, Kyrian? Or a cover-up? Titilayo has his claws deep in the National Force. Who's to say that he didn't influence this decision?"

Kyrian's eyes hardened. "That's a dangerous accusation, Timi. Chief Okonkwo is a good man, he wouldn't compromise his principles. Besides, Titilayo isn't that subtle. If he wanted us out of the picture, he'd make sure we wouldn't be around to discuss it." Kyrian's voice was measured, attempting to steer Timi away from his dangerous line of thinking. "Let's drop it for now, Timi. We've both had a rough day. Why don't we go see how Jasmine's doing? She'd want to see a friendly face right now."

Timi's shoulders slumped, the fight draining out of him. "You're right. Jasmine needs us."

Together, they left the conference room, their steps echoing in the empty hallways.
