Epic 7
Lisa's words lingered in the air as Peter took a seat on the sofa, mulling over her accusations. "Does she actually look like me?" he whispered, his mind racing. The room fell silent as Lisa stared at Peter, who seemed lost in thought. She became more confused as she realized he was no longer listening. "Aren't you going to say anything?" she asked, her voice rising in frustration. "Isn't she your daughter?" But Peter's attention remained elsewhere, his face a mask of confusion and concern. While Peter and Lisa continued to stare into the distance, deep in thought, Nora knocked and then entered the room. Her presence immediately changed the atmosphere, causing Peter to stare at her as if he had seen a ghost. Lisa noticed and disrupted the silence with her harsh tone. "Are you going to talk or not? Why are you in my room?" she demanded, her eyes blazing with anger. Nora felt uncomfortable under Lisa's intense gaze. She apologized meekly, "Sorry, ma'am." "I don't need your sorry," Lisa snapped "Speak up, you slum!" Lisa barked after a while, her anger visible in her curled brows and trembling lashes. Nora, startled, stuttered, "I'm sorry, ma'am. I just wanted to let Mr. Peter know that his outfit is ready. His previous one got ruined with coffee at the office." She regained her composure, trying to maintain a calm demeanour despite Lisa's hostility. Peter stood up and approached Nora, intending to question her about her daughter, but he quickly realized that doing so would only worsen the already tense situation. "Thank you, Nora," Peter said, patting her shoulder gently. "You've done well. You can go now." As Nora meekly left the room, he turned his attention back to Lisa. "Can you imagine the nerve?" Lisa seethed, her eyes still fixed on the doorway. "Waltzing into the master bedroom without any fear! How dare she?" Peter, seemingly uninterested in Lisa's complaints, said, "I have to get back to the office now. Please try to be nice to Nora and Jessy. With a gentle peck on Lisa's cheek, Peter turned and left the room. Lisa, still frustrated, fumed inwardly, feeling that her fiancee wasn't taking her concerns seriously. Meanwhile, Nora hurried downstairs, her heart still pounding from her encounter with Lisa. She tried her best to ignore Lisa's hostility and concentrate on her duties, but it was becoming increasingly difficult. Back in the bedroom, Lisa was contemplating her next move. She couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss with Peter and Nora. From her bedroom window, Lisa watched as Peter's car pulled out of the driveway. As soon as he was gone, she picked up the intercom and called for Nora. "Yes, ma'am?" Nora answered nervously, sensing Lisa's hostility. "Come upstairs, I need to have a talk with you," Lisa commanded. Nora hurried up the stairs, her heart racing as she prepared herself for whatever Lisa had in store. Once she reached the bedroom, Lisa stood up and gave Nora a piercing stare. "Listen carefully," she began, her voice dripping with disdain. “I have my rules and regulations around the house and I would want you to keep them. Firstly for someone who is a maid, you aren't permitted to move into someone's house with a child, let alone one that is— anyway, never mind. I already forgave you on that because my fiancee asked me to”. She muttered while demanding a glass of water from Nora, as she gently brought that from the mini fridge in the room. Her words cut like a fire as she continued, her voice sharp and cold. “Secondly, I don't want you to be taking any instructions or advice from my fiancee when I am around, I am your boss, that is why you were employed. Thirdly, when my fiancee is not around, I would like you to answer my calls when I call you, not after fifteen minutes or hours. Lastly, I don't like the way you are treating my fiancee, always try to remember that you are nothing but a maid, a helper, not the landlady, I can still do some things by myself, so learn to always seek permission”. She mumbled, and with a deep hiss, she took a sip from her water. Nora's eyes widened slightly as she began to see the underlying jealousy in Lisa's tirade. Despite the maid's best attempts to remain neutral, it was becoming increasingly clear that Lisa viewed her as a threat to her relationship with Peter. The air in the room became tense, with Lisa's eyes piercing into Nora like daggers. But Nora refused to be intimidated. "Yes, ma'am," she replied calmly, looking directly at Lisa. "I understand your rules and will do my best to follow them, any other thing ma'am?" Having asked concerned, Lisa gazed at her with disgust before replying. “No other thing, you may go”. And just as Nora attempted to leave the room, Lisa immediately called back. “I forgot to mention, Your child? Try to teach her some manners and make her understand her place in this house. I don't want to see her anywhere close to this building or flocking around my fiancee. I believe that is understood?”. Lisa muttered as Nora took a gentle bow. “Well understood ma'am, but I would like you to understand that it isn't in my power to control or restrict her movement. She is still a child and I doubt if she will be able to keep up with that, besides, she already has a great bond with Mr Peter, which I doubt will be possible to separate them. But not to worry ma'am I'll try my best to make her avoid him”. Nora whispered calmly. “Better, the last line was all I needed. Others weren't necessary, I already know your daughter is as dumb as you”. Lisa muttered rudely. “I'll try my best ma'am, any other thing?”. Nora mumbled politely. “What other thing do I need? Just leave my room already and go prepare dinner, I already left some cash in the dining, go use it and stuff up the kitchen”.Epic 8 Coming back from work, the scent of Nora's cooking tantalized Peter's senses as he stood at the door, inhaling deeply and letting the delicious aroma fill his nostrils. With his eyes closed in bliss, he suddenly felt a tiny hand grasp his leg, only to open his eyes to see Jessy smiling up at him. "Welcome, Daddy!" she exclaimed, her face beaming with joy. Peter bent down and scooped her up onto his shoulders, cuddling her close. "Hello, my princess. Did you miss Daddy?" he teased playfully, eliciting a nod from Jessy. “I miss Daddy so-so much”. She let out in her tiny voice “Where is mummy?”. Peter mumbled “In the kitchen, she is preparing dinner”. Jessy let out. “How about we go pay her a visit, promise to be quite okay?”. Peter mumbled and immediately Jessy obeyed with a gentle smile. mesmerized by the sight of Nora diligently cooking in the pristine kitchen. He took in the neat rows of utensils, the spotless countertops, and the air filled with the tantalizing arom
Epic 9 Nora immediately apologized and went ahead to clean up the floor. Peter stood speechless while trying to comprehend what had happened. “Silly, such a bunch of nuisance! Arrant nonsense”. Lisa muttered annoyed, while flapping her dress and angrily left the dining. “Sorry for that”. Peter whispered while dusting Nora's clothes. “It's fine sir, I'll manage. Besides, I'm the wrong one here”. Nora's voice was inaudible and scarcely voiced. “Are you—” “Mummy don't cry, I'm sorry”. Jessy whispered in her tiny voice, interrupting Peter, while almost crying as she tried to reach for her mother's face. “I'm not crying sweetie, mummy is fine. Just go to your room okay?”. With pretence, Nora cleaned her eyes while luring Jessy into their room. Returning to the dining, Peter was still standing there. There was a little silence as they both gazed at each other. “I'm sorry”. Peter whispered while grabbing Nora's hand. “It's fine, like I said, it's my fault as well”. Nora whispered as
Epic 10 “Daddy?”. Jessy's tiny voice echoed amid the chaos. “Well, of course. Daddy huh?!”. Lisa muttered annoyed and angrily left the room. “What is wrong with Aunty?”. Jessy innocently asked as he tapped Peter on his trousers. “Don't worry okay, Aunty is a little upset”. He let out and lifted Jessy to his shoulders. Unto the balcony, he observed as Lisa sat under the coconut tree close to their swimming pool. “I love my daddy”. Lisa interrupted with her tiny voice as Peter placed a kiss on her forehead. "Hey, Jessy. Can you tell me about your daddy?" Peter asked, seating the little girl on a nearby desk. "My mummy said I shouldn't tell anybody about my daddy," Jessy said, a look of innocence on her face. "Well, you can tell me," Peter reassured her. "I'm not just anybody, and I won't tell your mom, so it's our secret." Jessy's face brightened. "Okay, you're my daddy," she declared, her tiny fingers gripping Peter's chin. "My daddy is in heaven. Mummy said he went to get me
Epic 11 Having innocently walked back to his room, Peter kept searching for Nora with his eyes. “Haven't heard Jessy's voice”. He mumbled after a short while. “Jessy, ow Jessy”. Lisa whispered, rubbing her hands all over Peter. “Perhaps she has slept off”. She whispered while standing up from the beg. With her revealing nightie, she purposely dropped her perfume and in an attempt to pick it up, she bent towards Peter. “That's too revealing. Jessy might see you”. Peter said with annoyance as Lisa hissed and went to keep herself company in her mirror. "You're joking, right?" Lisa scoffed, giving Peter an incredulous look. "Jessy's not even here." She rolled her eyes, exasperated by his insistence. As she stood up from the bed, her revealing nightie left little to the imagination, and Peter couldn't help but feel a twinge of attraction despite his annoyance. “Babe”. Peter mumbled in a low tone as he sat up on the bed, but Lisa just rolled her eyes on him. “Any problem?”. She had
Epic 12 Getting to the subway, Peter's heart dropped with tears as he saw no signs of them. “They are not here”. He whispered bittered. “How about we check other subways?”. Lisa suggested and after glaring at her, Peter started up his car again, and that was how they ended up going to all the subways in town, yet no trace of Nora. “Gosh!”. Peter yelled pained and eventually drove back home. The few days spent with Peter were like a living hell for Lisa. It was more of “If Nora was here… If Jessy was here…”. Peter kept comparing every little thing she did with them. ******** It was already one week since the disappearance of Nora and Jessy, yet Peter couldn't get over them. “I'll be out to have a few drinks, don't wait up” he had whispered to Lisa before grabbing his car key to leave. Same place, same spot, same club, Peter sat quietly as he observed the environment. He didn't want what happened the last time to repeat, so he chose not to drink. “Here is your drink Sir”. A fami
Epic 13 Peter reached the club, smoke had covered the room. His eyes welled up in pain as he searched for Nora and Jessy. “Nora! Jessy!”. Peter yelled in pain as he searched for them, the fire service team had already surrounded the building and saved as many people as they could. The heat from the flames grew more intense as Peter forged deeper into the club, even with the restriction from the fire service workers. Bodies rushed past him, some crying out in fear, others helping others out of the inferno. In the chaos, Peter spotted a small figure huddled against the wall, coughing and gasping for air. It was Jessy, her face streaked with soot and tears. "Jessy!" Peter cried, rushing to her side. He scooped her up in his arms, holding her tight against his chest. "Are you okay? Where's Nora?" As Peter held Jessy close, his heart hammered against his chest. She was safe, but where was Nora? He frantically scanned the room, his eyes burning from the smoke. "We need to find your mom," h
Epic 14 Just as Peter opened his eyes, he caught note of the glittering silver shoe. Then he looked up to find Lisa smiling at him. “Hello babe”. She whispered as Peter gazed at her, shocked. “Lisa?”. He whispered in disbelief as Lisa shook her head. “Yes babe”. She let out with excitement while smiling at Peter. “Don't give me that look okay, we should proceed with the test and transfusion already. If she is having internal bleeding, then I don't see the need for the delay”. Lisa let out as the doctors seconded her immediately. “Don't worry sweetheart. She is my subject as well”. Lisa added before following the nurses to enter the nurse's room, where her sample was collected. “How is she?" Peter asked as Lisa approached him, her steps faltering slightly. Lisa let out a shaky breath, her hands clenched at her sides. "The doctors say the transfusion went well. Her condition is still critical, but they're hopeful that with rest and continued treatment, she'll pull through." Pete
Epic 15 Getting into the room, Peter was awed by the decoration of the inside. He couldn't believe his house could be decorated in such an amazing way. “You did this?”. Peter muttered surprised as Lisa nodded generously. “You like it?”. She whispered. “Of course, it's absolutely amazing”. Peter said “This is supposed to be my job”. They let out with shyness, as they approached the staircase. Lisa had decorated the stairs with rose flowers, down to the dining where she prepared a delicious meal. “You didn't have to go through all this stress”. Peter whispered as she picked up one of the rose flowers and placed it on Lisa's hair. “It looks beautiful on you”. He muttered while giving off a sweet smile. “Yeah, it's more beautiful now that you have said it. Come on, let's go in. You need to shower and of course, we need to hurry so that we can go and bring Nora and Jessy back”. Lisa added as she grabbed Peter's wrist and led him upstairs Peter kept observing in shock as Lisa did al
