Red handed

Epic 9

Nora immediately apologized and went ahead to clean up the floor. Peter stood speechless while trying to comprehend what had happened.

“Silly, such a bunch of nuisance! Arrant nonsense”. Lisa muttered annoyed, while flapping her dress and angrily left the dining.

“Sorry for that”. Peter whispered while dusting Nora's clothes.

“It's fine sir, I'll manage. Besides, I'm the wrong one here”. Nora's voice was inaudible and scarcely voiced.

“Are you—”

“Mummy don't cry, I'm sorry”. Jessy whispered in her tiny voice, interrupting Peter, while almost crying as she tried to reach for her mother's face.

“I'm not crying sweetie, mummy is fine. Just go to your room okay?”. With pretence, Nora cleaned her eyes while luring Jessy into their room.

Returning to the dining, Peter was still standing there. There was a little silence as they both gazed at each other. “I'm sorry”. Peter whispered while grabbing Nora's hand.

“It's fine, like I said, it's my fault as well”. Nora whispered as she pulled her hands while carrying out the dishes.

“Okay”. Peter whispered in between breaths as he disappointedly went back to his room. Lisa was still very pissed as she kept ranting nonstop, not allowing Peter to even get inside she rushed him “I told you about this yet you didn't listen! Why on earth will you be exposing your body parts in front of your maidservants? You can tell what happened in there right?! The dining was about getting messed up with water and that her little brat, yet she was lustfully gazing at you, such an ill-mannered brat! Are you even listening to me?” having yelled angrily at Peter, Lisa watched as he gently headed straight to the bed.

“Wow! What was I even expecting, of course, she is your mistress, you have every right to defend her. I will send her—”

“Good night, sweet dreams”. Peter whispered and slowly closed his eyes to sleep. Lisa eventually got tired as she watched him surprised.

“Goodnight? Sweet dreams?”. She mimicked while joining him.

*************

The rays of the sun penetrated Peter's eyes as Lisa rolled the cotton and opened the windows. In an attempt to swerve his head and continue his sleep, Peter was immediately welcomed with Lisa's warm embrace.

“Good morning love”. She whispered with a gentle touch on his face. “Good morning”. Peter let out tiredly as he tried to avoid Lisa's gaze.

“I made breakfast, you should dress up for work. Your bathing water is ready and guess what? I decorated it with roses and cand—”

“It's Saturday Lisa”. Peter mumbled in a husk tone.

“Oow! I totally forgot, but you can always have your breakfast right? I made it special this time. See, I removed my nails just to make the meal, it will get cold, so you should have a taste”. She persuaded.

“But I am still tired and sleepy”. Hearing Peter complain, Lisa let out a loud hiss and angrily walked out of the room.

Feeling guilty, Peter lazily stood up from the bed to wash up, reaching the bathroom, he turned the knob of the shower but instantly turned it off on noticing how Lisa had beautifully decorated the bathtub. Gently, he pulled his robe and stepped into the chilled bathtub, the scents of sweet candles feeling the air as he placed his head at the tub end. With his mind drifted he closed his eyes and slept off.

Not knowing Peter was in the room, Nora walked in after a knock. While dressing the bed, she didn't notice Peter coming out of the bathroom. Peter not knowing it was Nora gently grabbed her from behind and gave her a peck on the neck.

“Boss?”. Nora had whispered nervous as she turned to face him. Immediately, Peter let go and quickly apologized.

“I am so sorry, I thought it was my Fiancee… what have I done? I am so sorr— she's coming, umm… you need to leave, nope… you can't. Just pretend as if nothing happened”. Peter muttered panicking and immediately dived back into the bathroom.

“Babe”. Lisa kept echoing as she got closer to the room. Still surprised, Nora stood speechless until Lisa walked into the room.

“Hey! What the heck are you doing here? Where's my fiancee?”. She thundered but Nora still looked at her surprised

“Why are you such a dumb ass, where the heck is my…”

“What's with the noise?”. Peter whispered pretentiously as he walked out of the bathroom with his wet body.

“Umm— are you gonna stand there and watch us discuss, no privacy anymore? Get lost you brat”. Lisa yelled annoyed. Gently, Nora dropped the duvet on her hands and walked out of the room.

“Why is she acting that way? What's wrong with her?”. Lisa muttered suspiciously as she went closer to sniff Peter.

“What are you doing?”. With a confused expression, Peter asked while rolling his eyes and pulling away from Lisa.

“Umm—nothing, just want to—um—um. Just wanna know if you showered with the scented flowers and the candle”. Lisa whispered while faking a smile.

“Of course I did, Thank you”. Peter grinned.

“About yesterday—”

“Just let it slide”. Peter let out sharply as he dried his body and immediately dressed up.

“Should I serve you the breakfast here?”. Lisa offered but Peter insisted on going to the dining to eat. “I haven't seen Jessy today”. He had said.

“What is with you and this Jessy of a girl? I mean…”

“You don't wanna tell me that you are jealous of a little girl, are you?”. Peter mumbled with a chuckle.

“I'm not, I—I just don't know what is wrong, I feel you are not paying attention to me anymore. Everything is about Nora, Jessy… you know. I just wanna feel loved that's all”. Almost crying, Lisa whispered as she helped herself out.

“You don't have to sound this way, they are just my fr— they are not gonna stay for long okay, I'll keep checking the agency for a replacement”. Immediately, Peter went closer for a hug, wrapping his hands around Lisa, who was almost not seen as his height took a greater piece

“Let's go have breakfast”. He whispered.

“Carry me”. Lisa mumbled in a soft voice as he glared at her shocked.

“Carry you?!”. He repeated.

“Yeah, carry me. Is that…”

“I will” Peter replied immediately as he gently lifted her into his arms. Her legs swung from the side, struggling to battle with her breadth Lisa clutched her hands around Peter's neck and deeply stared into his eyes.

“Thank you”. She managed to say, as Peter gave off a little smile.

As Peter carried Lisa towards the dining room, his gaze locked with Nora's, stopping him in his tracks. "What's that?" Lisa asked, turning around, but Nora had already slipped away.

"What are you staring at?" Lisa asked confusion in her voice.

"Nothing," Peter lied, quickly setting her down. "I just remembered something. I left my phone in the room. I'll catch up with you in a minute."

Before Lisa could protest, Peter was already gone.

"Babe...?" she called out, but it was too late.

Lisa, now seated at the dining table, sighed in frustration. She could sense something was amiss, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. She picked at her food, absent-mindedly, her thoughts preoccupied with Peter and Nora.

Upstairs, Peter was grappling with his own emotions. He felt pulled in two directions—the love he felt for Lisa and the undeniable attraction he felt for Nora. "What's going on with me?" he whispered to himself, resting his hand against his chest as if it could steady the turmoil within. Downstairs, the sound of the dining room door opening interrupted Lisa's reverie. She looked up, expecting to see Peter, but it was Nora who entered.

"Breakfast is ready, ma'am," Nora said, placing the dishes on the table. She avoided making eye contact with Lisa, a tension settling over the room.

“You are not blind not to have noticed that I already prepared my breakfast. Take this trash out of here”. Lisa's eyes narrowed, her suspicion of Nora mounting by the minute as she watched her carry the food out.

In the bedroom, Peter wrestled with his conscience. He had never been the type of man to stray, but something about Nora had stirred something within him, something he couldn't ignore.

After a little solemn, Peter went back to the dining.

“You are back”. Lisa whispered a bit excited.

“yeah”. Peter mumbled while still struggling to catch her breath.

“Where is your phone then?”. Lisa asked suspiciously as she noticed Peter didn't even come out with the phone he claimed to have forgotten.

“Umm… gosh! Guess I forgot it again, let me go get i—”.

“There will be no need for that, I'm sure Nora won't mind getting that”. Lisa mumbled rather rudely as she called out to Nora.

Her eyes didn't get away from Peter as she peered her gaze on him, her heart increasing speedily.

Lisa's eyes bore into Peter as she called for Nora. "Nora, could you fetch my fiancé's phone from our bedroom, please?" she asked, her tone bordering on accusatory.

Nora, who had been tidying up the kitchen, entered the dining room with a polite nod. "Of course, ma'am. One moment, please," she said, disappearing into the hallway.

As she left, the tension in the room only intensified. Lisa's glare, mixed with suspicion and hurt, made Peter feel like a cornered animal.

“She won't find it”. Peter let out as he stood up. Lisa reached out to stop Peter as he rose from his seat, but her hand met empty air. "Wait, Peter," she pleaded, but he had already turned and was heading back to the bedroom. "I doubt she even knows where the phone is," he muttered under his breath as he strode out of the dining room.

Lisa sat motionless, watching Peter leave. She couldn't shake off the feeling that he was hiding something, but she couldn't place her finger on it.

In the bedroom, Peter stood frozen in place. The truth was, there was no phone to fetch.

Peter closed his eyes, trying to quell the tempest of emotions swirling within him. He knew he couldn't keep his distance from Nora forever, but he also couldn't bear to hurt Lisa like this.

Back in the dining room, Lisa sat alone, her hands curled into fists. She ran through the evening's events in her mind, searching for clues.

In a moment of clarity, she remembered Peter's sudden hesitation when she had mentioned Nora fetching his phone. Why would he have hesitated? Unless...there was no phone to fetch.

Lisa's feet carried her back to the living room, her heart hammering in her chest. And there, in the living room, she found Nora and Peter in a position that sent shockwaves through her entire being.

Nora quickly stood up, her face flushed, but Peter attempted to brush it off as nothing. "Lisa, it's not what it looks like," he stammered, trying to reason his way out of the situation.

But Lisa had seen enough. Her jaw clenched, her eyes narrowed, and her blood boiled with rage.

“Was that why you left? You thought she couldn't find the phone right?”. Lisa muttered heartbroken and immediately, Nora ran out.

“Honestly, you are misinterpreting the whole issue. You know I got the room wet after taking my birth, she almost slipped and I fell on her while trying to rescue her. You have to believe me”. Peter muttered gently.

“But I caught you”. Lisa cried out.

“Caught us doing what exactly, you only found me on top of her. I wasn't doing any other th—”

“Did you see how you were both staring at each other? If you love her, tell me now, so I can go back to Korean”. Lisa interrupted as tears rolled down her eyes.

“I'm sorry, truly sorry. Don't go, please”. Peter apologized while grabbing her hands. Having gazed affectionately at her, he gently pulled her close, brushing away the tears that streamed down her cheeks. "Don't go, please. I can't lose you. I'll do whatever it takes to earn back your trust."

Lisa hesitated, unsure if she could forgive him so easily or not
