Elijah was becoming agitated, the whole was becoming a joke and very soon people would have their phones out, recording them. He lifted his head and his eyes caught Marcus' who mouthed the words "I'm sorry" to him.

"Cat caught your tongue. Scared your fake little secret will be exposed, huh" Avery said, going up to his face.

"What fake little secret?" He looked at the man and gave a nod, "Please, test it again." The man placed the tester's needle on the bracelet he was still holding, and it gave the same reading as before. He swapped it with the one Sia was holding and tested it again, and the reading remained as before.

"Thief! He is a thief! He stole them!"

"Stick to one story Avery," Elijah shouted, already losing patience.

"Avery!" Sia called.

"No, no, no, you have to listen to me. This man is poor and wretched. He stole those diamonds, and that is the only explanation. I'm calling the police right now to come and take this criminal away."

"Avery you are causing a scene at m

"Exactly. You might have stolen the receipt. There are a lot of people in the world who bear the name Elijah. Also, you could have forged it, and I can't put that past you." Avery replied."Aren't you tired of looking stupid?" "How dare you?" Avery pushed at the officer who held her back from coming at Elijah."How about you call the store and confirm the receipt number, or even ask for a video proof of something?" Elijah said to the officer holding the receipt with a hint of rudeness tainted his tone. The other officer looked flustered as he got out his phone and dialed the store's number. On the third ring, someone answered. "Good day, this is Officer Charlie. There is a slight problem at a wedding that involves items bought from your store, so I'm calling to confirm the receipt number and to ask if you can send a video confirmation of who exactly came in to purchase these items. If you are unsure whether this call is genuine, I can immediately send you a picture of my ID card.""

Elijah was on his way to his usual meeting place- a reserved hotel room with Mia, whom he had not seen since he got back from Connecticut. A lot of things had occupied his time, ranging from attending Marcus' wedding to supervising the work on the construction site. He and Vicky had been shuffling their tasks. Whenever she needed to be at the interview for the candidates that would work at the casino, he would be at the site and anytime he needed to be at the office, signing documents and talking with investors and business partners, she would be supervising work on the site. Elijah did not want to turn up at the hotel empty-handed, as usual, so he decided to stop at any mall on his way, go in, and get Mia a gift, perhaps some fragrances and jewelry, he considered. He had a quick flash back of his time with Mia, and he realized how much he had missed her and what she could do with her body. A smile appeared on his face as he thought of how the night would end for him. Five minutes

Elijah turned back to see that the boy had obeyed his instruction, and his eyes was filled with fear as he watched the men run towards them. He looked at Elijah, and put his hand together in a plea, "Please help me, sir. I don't want to go to jail. I can't go to jail, nobody will be able to help me out because I have nobody. Please, sir. I know you don't know me and you shouldn't feel obligated to me for anything, but please have mercy on me." Dylan cried, gripping Elijah's arm for dear life. The police officers finally caught up with Elijah and Dylan, who were panting and out of breath. "Thank you sir for not letting this little thief go." One of the officers said, reaching out to grab Dylan's sweater. "You are coming with us." "You should sleep in jail for months for what you just put all of us through," the man in casual clothing added. "Can we all calm down for a minute?" Elijah interfered, gently prying the officer's hands off Dylan. "Thank you. Please let's settle this here

'Could Lewis have asked Mia to meet up with Fred for something important?' Elijah asked himself as he continued to stare at the two talking. He had a sneaking suspicion in his gut that they were up to no good. He expected her to already be in their hotel room, waiting, when he was nursing the idea of calling her to apologize for running late while he went for his and Dylan's hot dogs. The sound of his phone's ringtone filled the car prompting Elijah to reach into his pocket to bring it out, without breaking his gaze away from Fred and Mia. Mia's name appeared on the phone screen and Elijah let out a sinister laugh. It was just as he had thought, these two were up to no good. "What a shame," Elijah said aloud before he answered the phone. "Yes Mia," Elijah said."Eli honey, are you at the hotel already?" Mia asked. "Not yet, why? Is there something wrong?" Elijah asked, trying his best to sound cool and keep the bite out of his voice. "Not really. It's just that I might be a bit l

Maybe he should have thought about it before approaching Mia, maybe he should have listened to Dylan, but he was pissed by Mia's betrayal. If she had told him that she was with Fred, he would not have been angry. But she called him, lied to him, and put the phone on speaker so that Fred could listen in on their conversation. Another woman had betrayed him yet again, and there was nothing to stop Kira from doing the same. "Mia!" Elijah shouted, and Mia whirled to face him, a shocked expression on her face, like a deer caught in the headlights."Eli…Elijah? What are you doing here?" "I told you already that I have a lot of things to handle and being at this park, at this moment, is one of them. What about you? What are you doing here?" Elijah asked, staring intently at her. "Uhm, I, Uhm, yeah, I'm on personal errands." Mia stuttered. "At the park?" "Yes at the park." "And Fred Harkins is a part of this personal errand?"Elijah watched her face flush. Her eyes widened and her lips

Kira's POVKira sat behind her desk, tapping away on her keyboard while her other hand stretched for the frappuccino on her table. She put the straw to her mouth and drew a long sip, before dropping the cup and reaching for her phone which was beside the cup. She turned it on, and just as before, her calls had not been returned in the previous three days. She was certain that Elijah, the mystery man that she had met twice now, had not given her the wrong number because they had spoken on the phone after Sia's after-party had ended. Kira felt the desperate need to get in touch with Elijah and plead with him to let her see the man he had spoken about at the wedding. The man who had twisted Fred's pants. She needed him because it was time to carry out her revenge. It wasn't enough to come to work and sabotage little things for them gradually. She wanted more. Her spirit and soul demanded more. Her family needed more. She had a flashback to the day it had all started. Her father had st

Kira's POVKira watched as they dragged her father away, and they kicked her mother in the mouth when she grabbed one of the men who had pulled her father up. She stared at the door, frozen in place, unaware that her mother was pulling at her, shouting her name. "Kira! Kira, get up. They are taking him to Precinct North, and he will appear in front of a judge in two days." Katherine shouted, but all Kira could hear was a distorted voice. Katherine slapped Kira out of her shock and she immediately turned her head to look at her mother, her hand holding the cheek that had been slapped."Mom, what did you do that for?" "I've been speaking to you since, and you've just been staring into space, I had to make you regain your senses. I said that they are taking your father to precinct north and he will appear before a judge in two days." "Okay, so why are we still here? Let's go already." Kira's POV"Oh no! Who would do this?!" Kira cried."This is so unfair!" Ian said.People were gathered in front of the house, watching their home burn. Like never before Kira was grateful that Katherine had insisted that they leave the house, despite her resistance to sit in a car, during her father's hearing. Kira reasoned that the only person who could have done such a thing had to be Fred because he was their current most-known enemy and he was evidently after them."What if we were still in the house? Oh, my God! It might have been a different story by now!" Kira sobbed as a jolt of fear passed through her. "This might have been the handwork of people angry at our father because he took their homes from them," Ian spoke up, gaining Kira's attention. She looked at him with wrinkled brows, and the thought that not only Fred had the power to hurt them, sent more shivers down her back. "What are we going to do now? This town is obviously not safe for us anymore." "Us? Us? You are

Elijah and Cora glanced at the face of the woman they had not seen since the fatherless charity function. Clara, clothed in fur in this heat wave, her lips were crimson red, stood in between her sons, as usual. "You both are just staring at me like it's the first time you are using your eyes properly," Clara said. She turned to look into the glass window that Elijah had been staring through before she came in. "So what's the situation?" Elijah and Cora did not respond, the only sound that filled the silence was the shuffling feet of nurses and doctors going in and out of patient wards. "Have you both suddenly gone deaf?" Clara asked. Elijah gritted his teeth and stepped away from the glass, moving closer to Cora. "Why are you here Clara?" "The last time I checked I am still family, and that old man laying right there," Clara said, pointing at Lucas, "is still my father-in-law." "No one wants you here.""Oh, I can see that. But I am not going anywhere. Besides Lucas, I'm the secon

When Cora heard Elijah's voice, She turned towards the arms of her brother and buried her face in his chest. The tall gene was in the family and it had not passed her by. When the average height of ladies barely reached Elijah's shoulders, Cora's head went past it a bit. Elijah wrapped his arms around Cora and tried to calm her down, whispering sweet nothings and promises that everything would be back to normal in no time, in her ears. He knew he shouldn't be giving her these kinds of promises, definitely not when he didn't even understand what his eyes had just seen behind the glass windowCora eventually relaxed, and Elijah pulled her body away from his slightly, so he could look into her eyes. "What is going on? That's Grandpa's hospital." "Just come, as soon as you can," Cora replied and hung up. Elijah put his phone back into his pocket and Kira asked, "What's wrong?" "I don't know. That was my sister and she told me to get to Connecticut, to our family hospital right this moment.""But that's not possible, you can't. Give me a moment, let me see how fast I can book a flight for you." Kira said, grabbing her laptop that was on a table, closest to her."Huh? What are you doing?" Elijah stared at Kira in confusion. "Booking a flight for you. You know, that thing that you would need to get yourself from here all the way to Connecticut." Despite feeling shocked after Cora's call, Elijah chuckled at Kira. "I have a private jet, Kira." "What? You…you have a what!?""A private jet.""I heard you the first time. Okay, I knew you were rich, but I didn't realize that you are rich enough to own a jet." She shouted back as she opened the door for him to enter. "What's going on?" Elijah asked."I should be the one asking you that. You demanded that I send my address and then you came over here trying to wake the entire neighborhood up. Did you change your drug supplier?""I don't do drugs, and I don't understand. I heard you sniffing on the phone." "And so you hurried here because you thought I was crying?" Kira looked confused."Were you not?""I was. But that's not the point right now. I'm saying that you hurried down here because you thought I was crying?" Elijah rocked on his feet, his actions just now dawning on him. Kira chuckled. Elijah shouted, so that everyone could hear him loud and clear, and a couple of people echoed "Thank you, sir."Then he turned to Vicky, who wore an angry expression."This is the second time you have been caught in a crossfire Vicky, and I'm sincerely sorry. Chapter 51

Elijah's POVAfter his dinner with Kira, Elijah locked himself in a hotel room with a redhead. One of the flings that he had set aside when he found satisfaction with Mia. They had been going at it all night and day, for two days now, and each time, Elijah had pushed away the thoughts and images of a certain woman out of his mind. He had not intended to end his dinner night with Kira in the arms of another woman, but he got restless immediately after he got back home. His body desired a particular person that they couldn't have, and so the best solution for him had been to bury himself in another woman's arms. Elijah never understood his burning need to be intimate with a woman after Bianca. He had concluded that it could be because she had denied him intimacy during the years that they were married while she was freely giving it to that older-looking man. Elijah was lying on his back, about to drift off into sleep, when he felt the light touch of a lady's hand slowly crawling up h

Kira's POVKira was driving to pick up Ian from the airport, and she was reminiscing about her dinner with Elijah two nights before. She was attracted to him in a kind of way, but being in a relationship was not a top priority for her, especially not with a man with mystery and trouble written all over. She assumed Elijah felt the same way because he would flirt with her one moment and then become serious the next. He had told her that they would devise a plan and work toward it, and she was okay with that idea as long as it destroyed Fred. She had ideas of her own, but she wanted to listen to what Elijah would come up with.Kira longed to know why Elijah was after Fred, but she doubted he would open up to her easily because she saw him as an onion with multiple layers. Kira was finally at the airport and she saw her brother standing outside, scanning the area, possibly looking for her car. She drove up in front of him, came to a halt, and rolled down the window. Elijah was seated in his restaurant, waiting for Kira. After the call, he texted her that they should meet at EM Restaurant, and it surprised him that he was feeling nervous about seeing a woman. Elijah looked up from his table to see Kira approaching him in a black body con dress and black stilettos, her burgundy hair adding color to her outfit. As she approached, he rose from the chair and went to pull out a chair for her to sit on. "Oh wow. Thank you. You are quite the gentleman." Kira stated this while gushing at him, her hand on her chest. Elijah chuckled because he knew she was just trying to mock him. "You are five minutes late." "Just five minutes? That's not even enough payback for ignoring my calls." Kira scoffed."I thought we spoke about this." "And…? Because I'm so sweet and nice, I should not bring it up anymore?" "Okay. I apologize again." Elijah said this with his hands raised in surrender. "I'm genuinely sorry and it will not happen again.""It had better not."

Elijah's POVElijah was walking out of the apartment he had rented for Dylan. It was close to Dylan's school and more comfortable than the small space he had to share with three other boys his age. Elijah had gone to visit him and the place looked uncomfortable to live in.Dylan was supposed to meet him at the apartment, but he had called to say that he would be late because he had to meet up with his group for a project, so Elijah decided to take a quick walk around the neighborhood for a short time. His phone rang from his pocket, and when he pulled it out he saw "Kira's" name displayed on the screen. He locked his phone and returned it to his pocket. Today marked the seventh time in five days that he had ignored Kira's call. He did not want to speak to her until Marcus found concrete evidence on her that he would use against her and tell her that he knew all about her plan to betray him. His guard was up, and he was not about to let those walls down anytime soon, especially not f
