Bewildered

Ethan stilled out of fear when he realized that his wife was already home before he got back from the subway. He had spent longer than he intended to due to the number of contracts reviewed and signed. He thought about turning back and going to his in-laws home to stay for a while. Maybe he could use that as an excuse when she asks him why he wasn't home when she arrived.

His wife caught him on spot while he was still contemplating. Her body radiated so much anger. Ethan followed wordlessly as she grabbed him by the hands and led him indoors.

'Why were you out of the house, Ethan? Where did you go to?'

He fidgeted, ruffling his dishevelled hair at intervals. 'I needed some fresh air'. It was a lame, stupid excuse. If he lied about going to his in laws home, somehow, she'll discover the truth and become more suspicious.

'Some fresh air?' she repeated, waiting for him to confirm she actually heard him right.
