Ethan takes a deep breath and walked into the tall building. It was one of the various companies owned by his wife's family.

"My wife." The words rolled off his tongue bitterly as he entered the elevator. He had no idea what is wife would say when she sees him. He hoped he'd be able to leave the company unnoticed by her.

Left to him, he wouldn't have dared visited the company but his brother in-law had asked him to bring a fruit parfait from the house.

He clutched the paper bag in his hands when the elevator opened with a 'ding' sound. He lowered his head and hurriedly walked to his brother in-law's office, praying his wife wasn't anywhere around.

He knocked on his brother in-law's door and paced around in fear when he got no response.

"What the heck are you doing here?" A chilling, all familiar voice asked behind him.

Slowly, he turned around to meet blue piercing eyes glaring at him.

"I-I." He stuttered, loss on how to explain himself.

Workers around them spoke in whispers, pointing at him and laughing.

"Cat got your tongue?" His wife, Isabel sneered, "And couldn't you have worn a better cloth? You shame me!!" She yelled now.

Ethan glanced down at his clothes, he was wearing a faded jeans trousers and a tight shirt, discarded and handed down by his brother in-law. It was the best cloth he had.

"Haven't I warned you to hide your miserable useless face at home?" She snarled, advancing towards him.

Ethan fell to his knees quickly to apologize, "I'm sorry."

He had learnt the hard way. The first time he got Isabel angry and hadn't apologized on his knees, he was starved for two days and not allowed to step outside.

"Take it easy on him, sister. " His brother in-law interrupted, slapping Ethan at the back of his head, "he is just doing what he was told."

Ethan pursed his lips in anger and despair. He was stuck with this family for a year and nine months more.

"Is that anger I see flashing in your eyes?" His brother in-law said mockingly, pushing Ethan till he fell face flat.

"No." Ethan replied meekly and stood, stretching the paper bag to his brother in law, "I brought it."

"Good." Anthony snatched the paper bag from Ethan. He was the eldest and only son of the Logan family, so going against him was like signing a death wish.

"Now get out!!" Isabel screamed, "I'll deal with you when I get home. Use the company's back door."

Ethan bowed timidly and hurried out of the company. This was nothing compared to the harsh treatment he receives every day from his in-laws.

Today made three months since he woke up from coma with no idea on who he is. He had nothing except his first name. Ethan. His useless brain wouldn't even remember his last name.

His breath hitched in his throat as he walked out of the company. What if he had a family somewhere looking for him, or was he an orphan? He had so many questions but there was no one to answer them.

When he woke up in the hospital, he had found Isabel by his side, the doctor had told him he owed his life to Isabel because she was the one that brought him in after an accident else he would have died.

Thinking about it, he would have chosen death over the pitiful life he is living.

Apparently, the accident had given him severe trauma to the head and destroyed his face. Now, not only was he missing his memory, he no longer had his real face. He had nothing. Life had ripped him bare and thrown him to the wolves as food.

After the doctor discharged him, Isabel had proposed a two years contract marriage as a way for him to repay his debt. She didn't want to marry the man her parents chose, which was why she chose him.

Ethan shook his head in pity at himself. He was deceived by Isabel's devilish smile and face. He also had no where to go.

He couldn't help but think; what if he had chosen differently?

He stood at the bus stop, his hands in his pockets, and rocked back on his heels, waiting for the bus.

A loud 'bang' sound, followed by a scream, pulled him out of his thoughts.

At the other side of the road, a young lady was cradling an older man on her laps and screaming for help.

He looked away instantly, the scene weirdly pulling at his heart.

He sneaked a glance at the lady again, people were gathered around them, taking pictures. No one called for emergency.

His body moved before he could think, and the next second, he was kneeling in front of the older man's limp body, performing CPR while yelling at anybody to call 911.

He checked for the man's pulse, it was weak but there, blood was gushing from the man's wound.

Without thinking, Ethan tore his shirt and used it to apply pressure on the man's wound.

"Thank you. " the girl cried in relief when the older man coughed and opened his eyes weakly.

"Thank you for saving his life."

Ethan nodded in a daze and moved back when an ambulance came.

People avoided him as he walked past, lost in his thoughts and staring at his bloodied hands. He had saved a person's life and he didn't know how he did it.

It came to him naturally.

Ethan continued staring at his hands in awe.

"Where are you coming from?" His mother in law yelled, throwing a cup at him immediately he entered the house.

"Brother in-law asked me to...." Ethan tried explaining but was cut off.

His mother in-law studied him with hate, his bloodied hands, ripped shirt and stains made it seem like he was in an accident but she didn't care.

She pulled her lips back in a sneer, "you dare have an accident and destroy that shirt?"

"I'm so.."

"You will wash every dirty clothes in this household with your hands, as punishment." She interrupted, " Next time, you'll allow yourself die and not come back to this household. Then my daughter will marry someone who can take care of her."

Ethan stared at the man in front of him, waiting for him to laugh and say he's joking or something of sort. Or maybe it was a prank from his wife. The timing was too perfect to be a coincidence. Ethan took an involuntary step backward and shook his head strongly. "That's not true. I don't believe you.""Come on, young master, don't you remember me at all? It's me, Drogo?" The man said earnestly. Ethan took in the man's features. He looked nothing like a gentle man. He was about six foot five, had bulging muscles, tattoos arm, and even a piercing on his lower lip. There was no way he could have gotten himself associated with a person like that. It had to be his wife playing tricks on him. "Fine..." Drogo persisted, "Ask me anything. We've been together since you were little. ""Ask you a question?" Ethan repeated in his mind, questions he was sure their answers could be manipulated."Get out!" Ethan yelled in frustration, "Go back and tell Isabel that her tricks won't work on m

The childlike giggle high-pitched by excitement travelled far thanks to the wind that came with the push and pull of the seawater against the sand, creamy white foam lining the tip. There were three figures playing on the sand, two wore blue shorts and were shirtless while the third one wore a green one with a tank top on. They all had light blonde hair. “I'm counting now!” The third one yelled, sounding feminine. “One! Two! Three! Stop!” The boys froze. They both found it hard to control their laughter as the girl chose which to go after. The game was simple. She had a maximum of three leaps to make it tonome person. If she does touch whichever she picked in those three leaps, then the person touched will replace her in he middle and do his counting. Isabel's spirit seemed to drop further into despondency with each step she took down the stairs. Wrapped in a wool robe and her hair in a towel of the same material, her finger traced the silver railing of her stairs as she descended slowly. She's just had the loneliest heartbreaking bath. Despite the essence she had added to her bath water that was meant to help her feel great afterwards, her body still ached. And parts of her she couldn't exactly identity. She was sure if one thing however. That she was numb from head to toe. She's done enough crying to last a year, her tear ducts were probably tired and wouldn't produce any more of the salty liquid even if it was prompted to. Her slow descent finally came to an end and she had eventually reached the end of the stairs. Her eyes roamed the house at an unrushed pace, slowly taking everything in and noting how empty—super empty the house seemed to have become. Could one person really make such an impact? She asked herself, huggin
