Isabel didn't wait for the car to completely stop. She couldn't. The words were still playing over and over in her head.

“Ethan signed the divorce papers sweetheart. You're now a free woman.”

As soon as her father had said those words, the driver had stopped the car while she asked—rather, demanded what he was talking about and why the divorce papers had her signature on it even when she had no recollection of ever signing the divorce papers.

“You don't remember? It was the day we ate together at the restaurant.” Her father had answered before closing the door, leaving her even more consterned.

She rushed past the guards and servants welcoming her, not bothering about her belongings still in the boot of the car. A light shower has started, miniature droplets of it getting soaked up by her blazer.

She burst through the front door, eyes wide and searching as she scanned the premises. It was empty and her heart did a painful lurch.
