Kayden stood in the corner with Phil and watched as Aidan and Darius dueled. Phil had been practicing with them but he had decided to back out of duel.
"I have never met anyone as obsessed with fighting like Aidan is" Phil said to Kayden.
"It's important for him as a prince to be able to defend himself and the kingdom" Kayden replied.
"But I am not a prince or a future king, why does he have to force me to practice." Phil complained.
Kayden laughed a little at Phil's sad face.
Aidan looked over and saw Kayden laughing.
"Do you care to share the joke Kayden?" he asked.
Kayden looked up to see Aidan staring at him and his laugh ceased immediately.
"My lord?"
"What's so funny that you are laughing?" Aidan asked again.
"I was telling him a joke about how you used to run around the palace naked." Phil spoke up.
Aidan glared at Phil. "Since you can make jokes, I am sure you can duel another round before we go inside."
Phil groaned and picked up his sword. He whispered to Kayden. "if I die, make sure everyone wears pink to my funeral."
"I will be sure to do that, my lord." Kayden whispered back.
The boys dueled for one more round before entering the house for lunch.
They were all seated at the dining table to eat lunch. The king and Reginald continued to converse while The queen and lady Martha continued to talk to each other. Kayden stood in the corner with the other servants.
"So what have you boys been up to?" the king asked.
"just some sword practice." Aidan said.
"and I trust it went well?" the king asked.
"it did. Darius is an expert, he has greatly improved from when he was a young boy." Aidan replied.
The king looked at Darius. "Aidan doesn't dish out praises easily, you must be very skilled to have earned his admiration."
"I am not that good. The prince flatters me." Darius said looking modest.
"Don't be modest Darius. You are one skilled swordsman." Aidan said.
The king noticed sir Reginald looking at his son with a confused look.
"What is the problem Reginald?" he asked.
"I am just wondering when Darius became good with swords. I stopped urging him to practice two years ago when I noticed that he was a complete disappointment in combat." the king said.
"Darius? A disappointment? You must be mistaken Sire." Aidan protested.
"I am not." Sir Reginald insisted.
Martha held her husband's hand. "After you told him to stop practicing. He was really upset that he had disappointed you so he started practicing in secret every day so he could get better and make you proud." she told him.
Sir Reginald looked at Darius. "is what your mother says true?"
"yes Father. I have been training secretly. I have gotten much better." Darius replied.
"That's good to hear, when we get back home, let's practice together, okay?"
"Yes father." Darius said with a smile.
"See Phil, with constant practice, you will get better. You should take example from Darius." Aidan told Phil.
"I will be sure to do that. Might I be excused from practice so I can practice secretly too?" Phil asked, looking at Aidan hopefully.
"You wish." Aidan replied.
The whole table laughed at Phil's sad face.
After lunch, Sir Reginald and his family retired to their chambers to rest. Phil went to his room while Aidan and his father went to the study to work. The queen also retired to her chambers.
Kayden was excused as well and he happily followed Samuel to the kitchen where he was supervising the preparation of dinner.
"You look very happy" Samuel observed.
"That's because I am happy, Aidan didn't bombard me with chores today." Kayden replied.
"That's because he is been distracted by the guests. You should rest and conserve your energy for later." Samuel told him.
Kayden groaned at Samuel's statement.
"Kayden, where you at the practicing ground when the prince and Darius were practicing?" Samuel asked.
"yes I was." Kayden replied.
"How was Darius skills? Was it as good as the prince said?"
"it was. He was so amazing, I wish I could fight like that. Every move he made was graceful and precise." Kayden gushed.
"I see." Samuel replied looking troubled.
"Is everything okay? Why do you look troubled?" Kayden asked.
"its just that a long time ago, Darius visited the palace with his parents. He was just a young boy then, he was so frail and weak. He couldn't even swing the sword without falling down. His improvement is really startling." Samuel said.
"You heard his mother back there, he practiced a lot." Kayden said.
"It's more than that Kayden. Not many people know this and I would like you to keep this a secret. Before joining the palace, I was a physician. Lady Martha is one of the few people aware of this. Back then, she brought him to me so I could examine him. When I examined him, he had a bone defect. His bones are hollow and weak, there is no known cure for it. He shouldn't even be able to walk now much less be an expert swordsman."
"Did sir Reginald know this?" Kayden asked.
"No, she implored me never to let him know and I promised her that I would never tell him."
"Maybe he got cured."
"There is no known cure Kayden." Samuel said.
"See you said 'known cure' maybe someone discovered a cure and he was healed." Kayden pointed out.
"Let's say that you are right and he got cured, what about Lady Martha's change then?" Samuel asked.
"was she sick too?" Kayden asked.
"No. But back then, she was very shy and timid. She always kept to herself. The lady Martha who came today is confident and talkative, she is nothing like her past self."
"Uncle, people change. She is a lady, it was only a matter of time until she changed. She can't be the lady of her household and be shy and timid." Kayden said.
Samuel sighed. "you know what? You are right, I am just been paranoid that's all. Come on let's go select the wine for this evening."
"okay uncle."
Kayden and Samuel left the kitchen and went to the wine cellar to pick out the wine.
Dinner had gone well and everyone had retired to their chambers to sleep. Before Kayden retired to his uncle's room. He had to do some chores for Aidan. He made the bed, put away Aidan's dirty clothes and closed the windows."is there anything you need my lord?" he asked."Why do you ask? Are you in a hurry to go somewhere?" Aidan asked in return."It's late my lord, I wanted to retire to bed." Kayden replied."well I still need you. Do you have a problem with that?""none my lord, what do you need me for?"Aidan got into bed and gestured at the chair close to the bed."Sit down" he ordered.Kayden sat down, looking very confused."Where do you come from?" Aidan asked."Varya. It's a little village on the outskirts of Rivena." Kayden replied."Where you born there?""Yes my lord. I was born there, I grew up there with my mother.""What about your father?""I never knew him, he died before I was born." Kayden replied."I never knew my mother either. She died giving birth to me." Aidan
Kayden hid in the corner and watched them, what were they doing outside by this time of the night."Did you get the information from Aidan?""Yes mother. The keys to the storage are with him. I just have to find a way to get it.""Good, that sword contains so much power that is beneficial to us." lady Martha said."how long do we have to remain here mother? I am tired of this body. I can feel his pathetic soul struggling with me trying to regain control." Darius said."Soon my son, once we get the sword, we will be powerful enough to tear the veil and return home. I am also tired of this unattractive body." Lady Martha said."Tomorrow night, I will open the storage and get the sword then we can both leave." Darius said."I can't wait to be back home." lady Martha said in glee.Kayden watched as they talked about their plans more before retiring to bed. As they walked back, Lady Martha passed a window, the moonlight reflected on her and her true nature was revealed.Kayden covered his
Darius was carried to his room by the guards."Samuel, go fetch the physician." the king ordered."I am sorry my lord, the physician went out to get some herbs." Samuel said looking apologetic.Darius screamed even louder in pain."Well send someone to fetch him immediately." the king ordered."I am afraid that won't be possible, he went to the neighboring kingdom. It would take hours to get him and hours for him to come back, I don't think he can't wait that long" Samuel replied referring to Darius. The king looked at Darius who was currently screaming in pain very loudly, his parents who stood by his bedside looking very worried. He had never felt so helpless in his life before."What can we do then?" he asked Samuel."I have a remedy which the physician prescribed for me when I was suffering from stomach ache too, should I fetch it so it can be given to him?" Darius asked."please go ahead and fetch it quickly." Sir Reginald answered even before the king replied.Samuel instructed
"When did the Leviathan possess your mother?" Kayden asked."I don't know when exactly but I knew when I was ten, she started giving me a potion to drink, the potion always strengthened me and gave me the energy to walk and do other basic things, she never told me where she got the potion though. Then she started to change, she would be standoffish one day and timid the other day. She couldn't remember specific things anymore. I think she was possessed around that time." Darius replied."Then two years ago, she persuaded you to let the Leviathan possess you right?" Samuel prodded."yes, she told me that it would make me stronger and I would be better at sword fighting and other things that would impress my father. I guess she was right about that part. I agreed because I just wanted to impress him." Darius said with a bitter smile."Then you realized that it was a mistake and you tried to fight it." Kayden asked."Yes, I did. But I was too weak to fight it so I could only bide my time
They came back from hunting, all the men looked angry except for Kayden who was relieved that no animal had been killed in front of him."I just don't get it, why didn't we catch a single animal?" Aidan questioned."Maybe today is not a good day, my lord." Kayden told him.Aidan looked at him suspiciously, "or maybe you had something to do with it."Kayden's heart skipped a beat, had Aidan caught him earlier using magic? but he had tried to be careful back then."Me?" he asked trying not to let his nervousness show."Yes, you.""How my lord?""You are too loud, your breathing must have scared off the animals."Kayden breathed in relief, "I will try to be more careful next time, my lord."Aidan scoffed and rode off to the stable.Darius rode up to Kayden. "You sly little thing. Aidan will have your head if he ever finds out what you did."Kayden smiled at him cheekily, "It's a good thing I was very careful."Darius shook his head at him. "See you later tonight." he said. "see you." Ka
"Who are you to tell me that?" Lady Martha fumed in anger. She looked at Darius only to see him moving backwards."Son, attack him!" she ordered."I am not your son." Darius told her.Lady Martha looked at him in shock, then she looked into his eyes. "Where is my son, what did you do to him?"She flew forward and grabbed Darius by his neck. Kayden held the sword, then he started to chant spells, he didn't know how he knew the spells but they felt familiar to him. His eyes shone blue and the wind whipped around him very fast. Lady Martha screamed and released Darius and lay on the ground shaking. The Leviathan left her body and Kayden quickly trapped it. Lady Martha's empty body fell on the floor. Darius and Samuel rushed to her, she opened her eyes weakly and looked at them. "Thank you." she told Samuel and Kayden. "I love you my boy and I am so sorry for everything." she told Darius. "It's okay mother." Darius told her. She smiled at him fondly before closing her eyes for the
The Kingdom of Rivena was a very prosperous city, it was blessed with a lot of natural resources and was the envy of all the kingdoms around. The kingdom hadn't always been like this though, in the past the Kingdom had been in total chaos and anarchy. This was when the dragons had ruled the sky and the sorcerers walked freely and did magic. Those who could do magic were the gods of the city. The non magic users were used as slaves. This was a very hard time, majority of the sorcerers were proud and egoistic and often engaged in petty fights. The casualties of these petty fights were the common people. The most powerful sorcerer was named Zarall, he was so powerful that even if all the sorcerers in the kingdom came together, they wouldn't be able to defeat him.Zarall wasn't interested in their petty fights, all he wanted to do was to practice magic in his home quietly. The other sorcerers tried several times to bring him over to their side but it was of no use, he declined all of thei
Thirty years later..........Thirty years had passed since the execution of the sorcerers. Rivena had flourished under King Adam's rule.He had married a beautiful woman and they had gave birth to a son, the name of their son was Aidan and he was to be the future king of Rivena.Aidan was loved by both his father and mother very much, he was doted and loved by everyone in the kingdom.Aidan was the best warrior in the land, there was nobody who could beat him, this was a fact that greatly pleased his father.King Adam still kept up the hunt for sorcerers in the land, he was determined to completely eradicate his land from sorcerers.....................Today was Aidan's Nineteenth birthday, his father was determined to give him the best party. No expenses were to be spared for the birthday party."Don't you think all this is too much?" Aidan asked his mother as he looked at the grand robes on the bed which he was to wear."I don't think so at all. You are the prince and future king o
