The Sorcerer's Sword

Sir Reginald

"Good morning my lord" Kayden greeted Aidan as he opened the windows in his room.

Aidan squinted against the sudden onslaught of light.

"You seem very agile this morning." told Kayden.

"Well, it is a wonderful day. It's normal to be happy" Kayden said cheerfully.

"You don't say. Get my bath water ready and set my clothes out" he ordered.

"yes my lord" Kayden said as he went to do what Aidan has ordered.

"And get my breakfast from the kitchen. I would be eating in my room"

"yes my lord"

While Aidan was taking his bath, he went down to the kitchen to get Aidan's breakfast.

He entered the room to see Aidan putting on his clothes. He put the breakfast on the table and stood waiting for further instructions.

Aidan sat down to eat. "have you eaten breakfast yet?" he asked Kayden.

"not yet my lord"

"Sit down and eat with me, I can't finish these by myself." Aidan said as he gestured for Kayden to sit.

"I am afraid, I can't do that my lord."

"why?" Aidan asked in confusion.

"Because it isn't proper for a servant to eat with his master" Kayden replied.

"Well it isn't proper for a servant to disobey his master either. Sit down and eat or I will make you scrub all the floors in the palace."

Kayden promptly sat down. He had no desire to scrub the full palace.

"eat" Aidan ordered.

Kayden timidly picked at the food, "eat up, we have a lot of activities today" Aidan urged him.

"What activities?" Kayden asked as he eagerly ate.

"Some of my father's friends, high ranking royals are coming to see him today, as the prince, I am expected to be present. And as my servant you are to be by my side." Aidan informed him.

"Anything else?" Kayden asked.

"nothing else, now Kayden, I implore you to be on your best behavior, you must not talk back or show any rude behavior to our guests"

"You have nothing to worry about my lord, I am always on my best behavior" Kayden said with a bright smile.

"I am sure you are." Aidan said.

After breakfast, Kayden cleared the plates while Aidan put on his ceremonial robes. Kayden came back to the room and both of them proceeded to the throne room.

Aidan stood beside his parents and Phil on the podium while Kayden stood below the podium.

The guests entered the throne room, it was Sir Reginald and his family.

Sir Reginald was a very good friend of the king, he was one of the key supporters of the king when he first ascended the throne.

"Reginald, it has been a long time. Lady Martha, how have you been?"

"I am fine, it is wonderful to be back in Rivena." lady Martha, Sir Reginald's wife.

"And it is wonderful to have you here too as well. I hope you will enjoy your stay here." the king said with a gracious smile.

"I hope so too." Lady Martha answered.

"I heard Zarall's sword has been found!" Sir Reginald said.

"Yes, it was found during Aidan's birthday banquet." the king said.

"Where was it found?" Sir Reginald asked. 

"It came out from the lake." the king replied.

"What do you think it means?" lady Martha asked, she looked a bit frightened.

"Have no fear, the sword is merely a piece of metal. The reign of magic in Rivena has come to an end." The king assured her.

"Can we see the sword Uncle" Darius, Sir Reginald's son said.

"hush Darius" his father scolded him.

"I am sorry for his insolence" Sir Reginald apologized. 

"It's okay Reginald, Darius is young and curious, it's only natural for him to be curious about the sword" 

The king summoned one of the guards on duty. 

"get the sword" he ordered. The guard bowed and left the throne room to carry out the king's orders. 

Moments later the sword was carried out, Kayden looked at it curiously. He had heard all about Zarall and his famous sword in his old village.

As the sword carried past him, Kayden heard his name whispered. "Kayden!"

He turned around looking for who had mentioned his name yet no one was looking at him, they were all focused on the sword.

"It looks so beautiful" lady Martha said.

"it looks strong too" Sir Reginald added.

"Do you think it can still be used for magic?" Darius asked.

"I don't think so my boy, it's owner is dead and no sorcerer would be foolish enough to enter Rivena to use that sword to do magic" the king answered him.

"Enough talking about swords and magic. Come on Adam, we have much to talk about." Sir Reginald told the king.

"Go keep the sword back" the king told the guard.

The sword was carried away. As the sword was carried out, Kayden could have swore that he saw Darius looking at the sword with covetous eyes.

"Come on Reginald, let's go to my study, we have a lot to talk about." the king told Sir Reginald.

The king and Sir Reginald left the throne room and went to the king's study.

"Come on Martha, we have much to talk about too." The queen told Martha, the queen and Martha linked their arms together and left the throne room.

The people remaining in the throne room were Aidan, Phil, Darius and Kayden with the palace guards.

"So what do we do now?" Phil asked.

"Well, who is up for sword practice?" Aidan asked.

Phil groaned in despair. "is that all you think about? Sword practice?"

"yes, we should constantly practice so we can be better in defending ourselves, our families and our kingdom. Don't you think so Darius?"

"I completely agree with you Aidan, let's practice. I want to see how well you have improved since we last sparred." Darius agreed with Aidan.

Aidan looked at Phil triumphantly. "you see, Darius agrees with me. You should try to be like Darius."

Phil glared at him and said nothing.

"Let's go to the training ground. Kayden go fetch my armor" Aidan said.

"Yes, my lord." Kayden went to fetch the sword while Aidan and the rest went to the training ground.
