"Drax, are you okay?" Cara asked while Drax looked around, wearing a frown on his face. His system was still sending waves and waves of warning his way. But Drax could not see any threats around.

"Yes, I'm fine-" he stopped when he turned to Cara and found her frozen on the spot. Her lips were parted, eyes fixed on a spot, and the gentle humming that once livened the restaurant instantly died down.

Drax gently stood up from his seat and looked at other customers. They were all frozen as well. Even the drinks weren't spared as a customer's glass that was being rocked in his hand earlier, slanted toward the right, almost spilling the amber coloured champagne.

"What is going on right now?" Drax asked his system. The blue light appeared in his mind's eye.

[He's here]

The system replied to him. Drax's brows furrowed as he kept looking around.

"Who's here?" He asked again, and suddenly, the floor began to vibrate.

Drax took a step back as a large crack suddenly appeared on the ground and expanded even further while green smoke escaped the depth. He watched carefully, and soon, following the smoke was a rather large hand whose grip on the ground was firm as the creature climbed out.

Standing before Drax was a 6'7 green humanoid creature draped in a black cloak. His eyes were green, and green smoke poured out of his nostrils while he breathed.

The creature took a careful look at Drax, studying him from head to toe.

"It is you," he said in a deep, husky voice.

"Who are you?" Drax questioned. He had to admit that this was new to him. Even in his world, systems were the most magically inclined things he had come across.

But this is next level.

"I am the Gatekeeper. Servant of Death herself. Protector of the sacred realities," the creature replied and approached Drax.

"You, Drax, have disrupted the fabrics of reality by swapping souls with another in this world. You are not supposed to be here," he said to Drax.

"I know. The other currently inhabits my body. I tried to get him to swap back but he refused," Drax replied to the Gatekeeper.

The Gatekeeper growled.

"The soul swapping system must not exist. Two souls must not exist outside their worlds. To restore balance, one must die. You!"

The Gatekeeper said and pointed his finger at Drax. Drax frowned at him.

"Why should I be the one to die? I want to go home and have my revenge on my wife and brother who tried to kill me. I don't deserve death," Drax argued.

"You fortified your world while you were overlord. And that led to the awakening of the soul blocking system. I cannot access Aiden. So, you must pay the price!" The Gatekeeper yelled.

"All I've ever done was to make my world a better place. I refuse to accept this verdict. I won't die!" Drax shot back.

The Gatekeeper growled again.

"If you do not accept your fate, I will come at you with Death's hoarde. You will suffer. The people you love will suffer and you shall beg for death to embrace you with her cold arms, but she will not. Remember, Drax. The consequence of disobeying death is chaos,"

The Gatekeeper's voice echoed as he slowly returned to the ground in form of green smoke. The ground shakes again, and when it closed up, time unfroze.

"Drax, how did you get there?" Cara asked, puzzled as she saw Drax standing away from the table. The restaurant was lively once again and of course, none of them knew what had happened.

"I'll be right back," Drax told her and then walked into the bathroom. He let out a sigh as the Gatekeeper's words replayed in his mind again.

The pressure around him keeps building. And Drax wanted it all to stop.

"He said you're not supposed to exist. What does that mean?" Drax asked the system who appeared before him in form of a blue flame.

[Systems are created by gods, Drax. And unlike what you've been led to believe, not all gods are benevolent. Somehow, I managed to gain a higher consciousness, allowing me independent thoughts and actions beyond what I was programed to do]

"Which is?" Drax asked.

[Consume my host. I give you tasks to achieve your goals, and I punish you for failing. That is my primary objective, one that I cannot override. It's nothing personal. And you must accept that about me. But I can also help you in other ways]

Drax scoffed.

"All I see here is coercion," he replied.

[I only take your points as punishment, Drax. Other systems will take your lifespan as you well know]

"Yeah. Precisely why I refused to have a system back at my world. It was a messy ceremony. Too dangerous. Too volatile," Drax sighed. He gazed at his reflection in the mirror.

His phone buzzed. Drax took it out. It was Cara who was calling.

"Cara, what's up?" He asked.

"Oh my God, Drax, come quickly! My Father is in the hospital!" She cried over the phone

Drax's muscles tensed up.

"What? What happened to him?" He asked.

"They say he's been poisoned!"
