‘’Hey, Sabastian.’’

Sabastian had his nose in his book and earphones, so he didn’t hear Aaliyah calling his name.

‘’Sabastian?’’

When he still didn’t respond, her used her foot to nudge his and he looked up at her, then removed one of his earphones.

‘’Aaliyah,’’ he said, then looked around, wondering if Molly was close by to watch and laugh as she accuses him of something.

‘’I was wondering if you would like to come to my party tomorrow. It will be at the Richmond’s court.’’

‘’Oh… uh… sure.’’

She gave him a smile.

‘’Great, see you there.’’

Sabastian watched after Aaliyah, thinking about how beautiful she was.

She was a smart girl as well, and from a good back ground but he thought that she might not be the one for him, since all the people in Wisteria Hill had their head too far up their asses.

He thought Aaliyah was bound to have her boyfriend and if not, many men flocking her and she wouldn’t go for him based on the background he was portraying.

He thought that Aaliyah was simply asking him to her party to either be nice, or to make fun of him because they all thought he was poor.

But even so, Sabastian decided that he would go and even buy Aaliyah a gift.

Sabastian plugged his earphone back in and went back to studying.

**

Sabastian waited last minute to get a gift for Aaliyah, simply because he wasn’t sure about what to get her. He thought that since all females liked nice things, then he would just get her some type of jewelry or a bag.

So, he went inside Imperial Gold, it was a shop across the road from where he had bought Ashley’s engagement ring.

He wanted to see how other people would treat him now that he was dressed more nicely, seeing that most students and teachers at the university seemed to think he was a new student because of his little upgrade in clothing.

The bell rang when he entered, and the woman glanced up from where she was clean the glass display to look at him.

“Welcome to Imperial Jewelry, how may I help you today?” She offered a bright smile while running her eyes up and down, no doubt judging him by the way he was dressed.

Sabastian had on a white, knitted long sleeve shirt, black dress pants and white sneakers. Thought he wasn’t dressed like a poor person anymore; his style was still simply but not to show off that he was rich.

‘’I think I would just look around the shop first. I’ll let you know if I need anything.’’

The woman looked him up and down again, her face held a bitter expression as she said.

‘’Listen, I don’t want you to waste my time. So, it’s either you are buying or get out.’’

‘’I will be buying something; I just need to see what you have before I can make a decision.’’

‘’Are you sure? Because I have seen your type before.’’

‘’My type?’’ Sabastian asked.

She nodded. ‘’The ones who pretend to be rich, ask to see things and then try to make a run for it. Or the ones who waste my time to just ‘look’ around and ask me all these questions even though they know they can’t afford our jewelry.’’

Sabastian shook his head and made his way around the shop, before stopping at a pair of diamond earrings and a necklace to match.

‘’I would like to see these,’’ Sabastian pointed at the collection.

‘’It’s expensive. That’s all you need to know, and I know that you in your Tommy Hilfiger shirt and Nike shoes can’t even put down a five percent on it.’’

Sabastian sighed, glanced up at the ceiling and began to make his way to the door. Thinking that he wasn’t going to shop where people judged and insulted him.

‘’Hi sir, didn’t see anything that you liked.’’ A different female asked, seeming to materialize out of nowhere.

‘’I did, but-‘’

‘’Marissa don’t waste your time on his one. Trust me when I say that I know a wanna-be rich man when I see on.’’ The first female said.

Marissa seemed lost for words. ‘’I we…’’

‘’Just let him go, I’m sure you want to make commission and helping him won’t achieve that.’’

A couple walked in just then, the woman had on a grey fur coat, Gucci thigh high boots and a Gucci shorts.

The man was decked out in all Gucci as well.

‘’Now, those are people I would rather help. Juts one look at them and I know that they must be from a high-class family.’’

Her attitude was different from when she greeted Sabastian.

‘’Hey, how may I help you lovely folks today?’’

‘’I am so sorry about that; would you like to still look around?’’ Marissa asked.

‘’No, but can you please show me the types of jewelry that would get you a commission?''

Marissa nodded and showed Sabastian to the collection he was looking at moments before.

‘’I got these just this morning.’’

Before the two could say anything, the other sales associate came over and bumped Marissa out of the way and opened the show case to remove the earrings and necklace.

‘’Sorry, but I have actual paying customers. And I’ll be getting a large commission the next coming week.’’ She winked then made a face at Sabastain.

When she got back to the couple, she talked loud enough for Sabastian to hear.

‘’I know a man like you can afford to buy this, and even get more if you choose to. It is one of a kind, made from rare gem stones. It is worth 100,000 dollars.’’

The female who was hanging off the man’s arm did a squealing laugh and allowed the sales lady to place the necklace around her neck.

“It’s so cold,’’ the female said, running her hand across the stones.

‘’Will you get it for me?’’ Then then pouted and batted her eyes at her companion.

‘’Anything for you.’’

She did another squealing laugh and clapped her hands.

The sales lady shot Sabastian and Marissa with a look.

The man handed her a card and she unprofessionally waved it in the air.

‘’A high roller I see.’’

The man laughed then hugged the female close to him.

‘’Do you have your eyes on anything else?’’ Marissa asked.

But Sabastian was in luck because the man’s card was declined.

‘’Sorry, but there seem to be something wrong with your card.’’

The man leaned on the counter, and in a deep tone he spoke. ‘’Try again.’’

But it was the same result, the card machine beeped to signify that the card was declined.

‘’Sorry, maybe you have another card you would like to try?’’

The man stuffed his hands in his pockets.

‘’I don’t, that’s my only one. But maybe you could work out a favor for me? What do you say, I take this out on like some kind of hire purchase and do a monthly payment.’’

The sales associate’s mouth fell open.

‘’What? No, that is nowhere near possible.’’

The man looked at Sabastian then hurried over to him.

‘’Hey man, we don’t know each other but maybe you can help a fellow out? I don’t want to embarrass myself in front of my girl. And all I am asking is if you could help me out with some cash to buy her that collection?’’

Sabastian raised a brow. ‘’100,000 dollars are a lot to just lean to a man I had only just met.’’

The man laughed and scratched the back of his head. ‘’I know, but I promise I’ll pay you back. Just please help a brother out.’’

‘’You are not my brother or friend,’’ Sabastian told him.

‘’What are you trying to say?’’ The man asked.

‘’I won’t give you any money.’’

The man scoffed. ‘’Right.’’

The other sales lady came over to where they were to place the collection back in its display.

‘’Marissa, I would like to make a purchase. I want the collection.’’

The other sales lady scoffed. ‘’If this man can’t afford this jewelry, how can you? I tell you Marissa, don’t waste your time.’’

Marissa ignored her and asked Sabastian to follow her to the counter.

Sabastian handed her his card, and the purchase went through.

‘’What! How is that possible? You are nothing but A POOR MAN!! I bet you stole that card. I’m calling the cops.’’

Sabastian stopped her by saying. ‘’Why do you think I can’t afford this jewelry?’’

‘’Because you are poor! Your clothes are so cheap, and you are low class. While this man is from a richer background than you.’’

The man laughed at the foolish sales lady’s words.

‘’Ma’am, you clearly had mistaken us two. I am not rich. And clearly this man comes from money. Not because he is dressed like this, do you think the truly rich folks of Wisteria Hill dress fancy everywhere they go? No, he is clearly trying to not have attention on himself, and only those low-class rich likes to boast.’’

The sales lady’s mouth fell open then she regained composure. ‘’What are you saying?’’

‘’I am poor, and this man is rich.’’

‘’But you came in here-‘’

The man shook his head and cut her off. ‘’The clothes I wear belong to my boss, and my girlfriend is in his wife’s outfit. If he should ever find out, he would hang me from my balls.’’

The female pulled away from him at his words. ‘’What?’’

‘’Sorry, but I was only pretending to be rich, because I know a girl like you would never go for a girl for me. I’m just a driver and that’s why I always have these cars.’’

She pushed at him.

‘’I don’t care. I don’t care! I am still calling the cops on this man. He must be pretending just like you are.’’

“What is your salary like?’’ Sabastian asked.

The sales lady frowned. ‘’What’s it to you?’’

‘’We get paid every two weeks. The basic pay is $800 dollars and if we make commission, then it can be $2,000. It all depends on what we sell.’’ Marissa explained.

‘’What is the on this collection?’’ Sabastian asked.

‘’$5,000.’’

‘’And what is the cheapest thing in here?’’ HE then asked.

‘’Hmm, well. It’s a bracelet.’’

‘’How much does it cost?’’

‘’$1,200 dollars,’’ Marissa told Sabastian, not understanding where he was going with all the questions.

Sabastian pointed at the sales lady. ‘’Can you afford that?’’

She was shocked by his question.

‘’No,’’ she eventually said, shaking her head.

‘’So, you work in a jewelry store, can’t afford the cheapest piece of jewelry, and have the nerve to judge people based on what they wear. Someone like you shouldn’t be working here, otherwise you will chase customers away.’’ Sabastian spoke in a stern voice.

The female who came with the man who was pretending to be rich went up to Sabastian and tried to hang onto his arm.

‘’I need a man like you in my life, so rich and powerful.’’

She made a weird purr like sound and Sabastian pushed her away.

‘’I’m not interested. Besides, if not for you thinking I’m rich then you wouldn’t be coming up to me now.’’

The sales lady frowned at Sabastian.

‘’Well, whatever. I’m sure you can only afford to buy that collection only once and might even return it after it is worn.’’

Ignoring her words, Sabastian pulled out his wallet and gave Marissa a fat tip of $3,000 dollars.

‘’Thank you,’’ Sabastian nodded at her.

Marissa couldn’t even muster a smile.

‘’What the hell? She doesn’t deserve that. All she did was ring up some stupid, fucking jewelry.’’

Sabastian glanced at the woman. ‘’You will be the downfall of this establishment.’’

Suddenly the manager stepped out from where he was watching the entire thing.

‘’Don’t worry sir, I will make sure Lizzy’s actions don’t go unpunished.’’

‘’Lizzy, you are fired.’’

‘’What?’’ Lizzy screeched.

‘’We don’t need people like you here. And Marissa, I will be transferred to a new location next week, I’ll make sure to put in some good words so you can take over as manager when I’m gone.’’

Lizzy screeched again.

Sabastian left the jewelry shop, not wanting to be a part of anything else that might transpire.
