After the Deal

Merlin’s eyes opened slowly, like a newborn who’s introduced to the light of life after being in the shelter of its mother’s womb for too long. Yet the light that welcomed Merlin in that moment is a lot harsher. As if his eyelids are being burned and, as this sensation spread across the entirety of his body.

Unknown to him, this is the result of him leaving the domain of the Kraken. The cold yet welcoming waters within the Kraken’s territory is alien to the harsh indifference of the world’s light brought about by the sun. And Merlin experienced this in its fullness. With his body slowly regaining its senses at the same time.

There is a weight that prevented him from getting up. Not caused by a spell nor an increase in the world’s gravity but, just from him having no more mana. He knows that this is the reason because it’s the same sensation he comes across when he exhausts his mana reserves during the days of Requiem the game.
