Merlin’s eyes opened slowly, like a newborn who’s introduced to the light of life after being in the shelter of its mother’s womb for too long. Yet the light that welcomed Merlin in that moment is a lot harsher. As if his eyelids are being burned and, as this sensation spread across the entirety of his body.Unknown to him, this is the result of him leaving the domain of the Kraken. The cold yet welcoming waters within the Kraken’s territory is alien to the harsh indifference of the world’s light brought about by the sun. And Merlin experienced this in its fullness. With his body slowly regaining its senses at the same time. There is a weight that prevented him from getting up. Not caused by a spell nor an increase in the world’s gravity but, just from him having no more mana. He knows that this is the reason because it’s the same sensation he comes across when he exhausts his mana reserves during the days of Requiem the game.“That bastard. It didn’t tell me anything about sucking me
The weapon stopped.Right before it can even reach the neck of the demon lord, the weapon stopped – caused by a block from another large weapon. Owned by none other than the Chimera, Samira.“You know, when I said that I wanted to spend more time with you, this isn’t what I meant.”Samira released a powerful blast of crimson mana that forced the abomination to back away. As this happened, Beatrix hurled shards of icicles towards the demon lord and the manticore. Intercepted by arrows that are fired by none other than Sylvie who appeared right in front of Merlin.“You know, when you said that we won’t be engaging in any battles soon, I already called your bluff.” The dark elf commented, wielding her new weapon. A longbow made from the blades that she took from her previous master, forged together with two other high rankings bows and a couple of other materials.“In my defense, I only came here for the contract with the Kraken.” The demon replied. “These guys just decided to pounce on
The fight between Sylvie and Beatrix. Merlin watched this from the comfort of the ruined Kraken City’s high walls The same way that he’s also observing the fight that’s going on between Samira and Corpus using a second [Faye].He is far from the reach of both sovereigns that have aimed for his head earlier on. Now, they are preoccupied with the fight against his own allies. Individuals that he raised and trained through the methods that he knows of. Allowing them to grow stronger within a shorter period of time compared to others. This is the reason why Merlin can watch without having to worry about a single thing. His allies aren’t so weak that their opponents would be able to take their eyes off of them without suffering any severe consequence. And, even if they do reach him, Merlin is ready to flicker to a new location. That being said, he can focus on watching the fights that are, at the moment, going in nobody’s favor. His allies and the opposing sovereigns feel like they’re even
“That’s dangerous.” Merlin said as he continued observing the fight between Sylvie and Beatrix. He’s proud of her because of what she’s able to do. Although the dark elf is caught unawares in the middle of a large magic circle due to her focus being tunneled on countering the fireballs, she is nevertheless able to remedy this. The dark elf made use of the items provided by Merlin for her in that moment. Creating a living armor made of her own mana that sucked up more than eighty percent of the damage done by the barrage of Beatrix. As the witch mentioned, the magic circle cancels out any spell from being fired. But that doesn’t include item activated effects. Something which Merlin also thought of when he began preparing for the war and, even before this. He personally led the creation of all the equipments, items, and weaponry of his allies. That’s why it isn’t an exaggeration to say that Sylvie is twice as strong as she would normally be.That being said, the remainder of the damage
[Demon Forest – A Day Before the Kraken Duels]“You can’t win against her.”Merlin walked in the forest alongside Sylvie. The two of them have just finished looking at the preparations for the upcoming war. With the focus being centered in making sure that the monsters are well equipped and properly disposed for what is to come, as well as making sure that the surprises across the forest are properly set.“What? Why not?” Sylvie asked in reply. The thing they’re talking about is a fight between Samira and the dark elf. With the month that has passed, Sylvie didn’t just sit idly by and waste away her days. No. She did all she could in order to make sure that she’d get stronger. Strong enough to be worthy of being at the side of the demon lord and, though the current state of Merlin proves her even more unworthy, she at least wishes to hear that she’s now enough to defeat the manticore. But her ears are not graced with these words.“Samira is a bonafide warrior who’s also blessed with g
Samira left her ally with a bit of worry lingering in her mind. Though she knows that Sylvie is strong and perfectly capable, this doesn’t erase the fact that the dark elf is facing off against one of the four sovereigns. A monster that can basically fight on equal footing with the manticore. But she doesn’t have time to think of her ally. All she can do is trust in her ally because, she herself has her plate full already. Filled by her opponent. None other than the abomination that is Corpus.“Ha! This is perfect!” Corpus said as it got up from the rubble. Brushing away all of the sand and dirt that’s accumulated on him. “I’ve always wanted to prove that I’m a lot stronger than you!”The monster is large, much larger than what she remembers. That’s right. They already met before but, contrary to what you may think, this happened in the battlefield. Specifically, it happened on the abomination’s first attempt to fight and win against the said sovereign. An attempt that ended badly for
“Well isn’t that interesting.”Just like the first bout, Merlin watched the battle of Samira and Corpus from the comfort of the high ruined walls. Unlike the first fight which had Sylvie at a great disadvantage against her opponent, this one is more evenly matched. Both fighters are sovereigns and, what’s more, they have a similar fighting style as well. Focusing on brute strength and close quarter combats. However, in the lore, Merlin knows for a fact that Samira is stronger. This has been stated. That between the monsters, Corpus is the lesser sovereign. Though that doesn’t make this fight any easier for the manticore. In fact, Merlin has a lingering thought in his head that things won’t play out the way he thinks it would. All because of the ominous aura that surrounds Corpus as much as it surrounds Beatrix. These thoughts occurred to him before the beginning of the fight. Now that it’s actually happening, he can see that his thoughts are right.Just as he expected, something reall
“She’s losing.”These words came straight out of Merlin’s lips as he watched the fight alongside Sylvie’s Of course, both of his allies are placed on the same state. Though he can also tell who’s losing heavier. “She should’ve killed her target right at the start of the battle. There’s more chance for her then rather than now.”The demon lord knows that Samira’s aware of this as well. That she could’ve ended the fight even before it can properly begin. But this is completely contrary to her nature and, as such, isn’t something she would even think of doing. For the manticore named Samira is a warrior driven by the desire to find worthy opponents. That is the only thing that keeps her going.Though her loyalty is now to Merlin, this thirst of hers cannot be quenched. Merlin can’t tell her to stop playing with her food. That’s why she’s placed in the predicament she’s currently in. One where she’s being beaten badly by her foe. Although, this doesn’t raise any concern for Merlin at all
