Chapter 1

These clothes are not properly washed!" Caleb shouted from the other side of the room, making Damson groan out loudly.

He let out a puff of air as Caleb came into the bathroom. He tried to control his anger, he was at the verge of breaking down, but he seriously needed the money from doing his laundry.

He had been working hard, going on numerous and ridiculous errands for his mates.

He also did a lot of part time jobs. He needed the extra cash so he could afford a ring his girlfriend, Mia, wanted for her birthday.

Damson really loved her and always dreamt of them spending the rest of their lives together. He would do anything to make her happy.

He has been trying his best, living from hand to mouth to satisfy her wants, despite him being really broke.

He smiled at the thought of the excitement he'll get to see on her face when he gets her the ring and that gave him more energy to work more and harder.

He hated the idea of doing Caleb's laundry. He's a rich, rude and snobbish guy that has always disregarded him. It has been hell living with him.

Caleb found so much joy in bringing him down everyday, reminding him of how much of a failure he is, telling him he can never make it in life.

"I made sure i washed them well." Damson replied, his voice low, as he was tired and had a heap of clothes in front of him that he had to complete washing before the end of the day.

"This particular cloth is damn expensive and I know you can't afford it, the least you can do is to wash it with care." His roommate, Caleb said to him scornfully.

“Caleb, I still have a lot to do, and from what I know, you haven't paid me for the clothes I washed for you the last time.”

“You specifically told me to use my hands and not the washing machine because "it might ruin your clothes" and I agreed to that.”

"I'll appreciate it if you can pay me without stressing me too much." Damson said in a low tone, trying to hold in his anger.

"How dare you? Caleb fumed, dragging Damson by the collar, fuming. Are you trying to claim money for a job that wasn't well done? Money that you didn't work for? You're just a low, wretched boy, suffering and trying to get by.”

"I'm doing you a favor by giving you a job and it is expected of you to wait and sit still for my instructions.”he said, tossing Damson aside.

"You know what? I'll no longer give you my clothes to wash anymore." Caleb continued.

"No please! I'll wash the clothes with more care next time." Damson pleaded, I need this job.

Caleb smiled, happy about the response he got from Damson.

"That's what I thought. Before I come back, I want my remaining clothes washed and ironed. If you do a good job, I'll pay you well."

"Can I at least wash these in the laundry room, using the machine?"

"I know, your clothes are expensive and I will make sure the machine doesn't ruin them." Damson said. As the clothes were quite much and washing with his hands will take a lot of energy and the entire day from him.

"Fine, you can." Caleb said, after hesitating for a minute. He wanted to make Damson suffer by washing the clothes with his hands, but he decided to let it slide.

*********

Damson tried to push out the thought of how much of a jerk Caleb can be and packed all the washed clothes and made his way back to the room.

"Take it easy Caleb", a voice from inside the room, giggled, making him stop right before he opened the door.

The voice sounded really familiar and the next thing he heard, made him swing the door open. He heard the name of his girlfriend moaned by a guy.

Damson was shocked at the sight in front of him, his girlfriend, Mia, was sitting on Caleb's lap, with just a short skirt on, her lips on his.

He couldn't believe his eyes, he was too stunned to speak.

He watched as she wrapped her hands around him, giggling and speaking softly into his ears.

"Mia!" He screamed out her name with anger and rage. "What do you think you're doing!?"

Mia, hearing Damson's voice, hurriedly stood up from Caleb's laps and put on her shirt to cover herself.

"It's not what you think.” she said in a shaky voice.

"Caleb, how dare you? How could you? You knew she was my girlfriend and you still did this.” Damson growled, lowly as he tried to lunge at Caleb, about to land a blow on his face, but Mia jumped into their middle, protecting Caleb from Damson.

"How dare you try to hurt him?" She screamed at Damson.

"How dare I? Are you hearing yourself? You should take my side! You cheated on me with my roommate!" He spat angrily.

"And so what? You have no right to attack him like that. You are just a nobody, and you have to respect him." She shouted.

"I've been trying to manage with you all these while, but I just can't. You are just too poor and can't provide my basic wants. You are not rich enough for me!"

"You can't even afford the things I want for myself. I'm not in a relationship with you to keep understanding your condition. You don't match my standards."

"I will not be a laughing stock for dating a poor and wretched guy". She continued.

"You're not on the same level with Caleb, and you will never be!"

"Damson couldn't believe his ears. He looked up to see Caleb smiling smugly at him". He was filled with rage.

His heart shattered into a million pieces as he heard Mia's words and also at the sight before him.

He remembered how hard he worked to save up for her birthday, and to make things worse, she cheated on him with someone who had always treated him as a servant.

"Not my fault you couldn't take care of your girl.” Caleb smiled, as he wrapped his arms around Mia

Tears welled up in Damson's eyes. He couldn't take the sight in front of him anymore.

"I loved you Mia. I really did.” He said in a shaky voice as he turned and left the room.

He walked aimlessly around, trying to wrap his head around what had happened. He couldn't believe Mia cheated on him, because he wasn't rich enough. He was angry because after everything he had done for her, none of it mattered at the end.

His mind was filled with anger and hurt.

"How could Mia do this to him?" He asked himself the same question over and over again.

At the end of the day, he couldn't go back to the room to sleep, because he didn't want to see Caleb after what had happened, so he went to pass the night at the laundromat.

Damson tossed and tossed on the hard floor, he couldn't sleep, what had happened during the day, played in his mind.

All of a sudden, his phone rang. He looked at the screen to see a strange number.

He was skeptical about picking the call, but he did.

"Hello? Am I speaking with Mr. Damson?" The voice called out.

"Yes.” He answered.

I'm calling to inform you that your family is here, and they've been trying to reach you, as you are the heir to the family company.

They need you!
