05. Edward's Resignation

In contrast to the bustling atmosphere at the company, the Vesper Family residence appeared quiet and very calm. This was because Lady Vesper's son and daughter hurried home immediately after the family dinner.

On that day, only Lady Vesper and her head servant were present before Monica came to visit. Lady Vesper was enjoying a healthful cup of tea and low-sugar biscuits brought by Yris the night before. Monica sat on the opposite side, tasting the tea.

"Are you sure about letting Yris and Charles marry?" Monica asked.

Despite not being involved in the family business, she was aware of the ups and downs of her daughter's divorce and remarriage. So, she was a bit concerned, aside from her happiness, thinking that she would have in-laws to showcase in social gatherings.

Lady Vesper set down her teacup and replied, "Why wouldn't I be sure?"

Before getting an answer, she continued, "It would be advantageous for our family as well. We would have a connection with the Shirk family through their marriage. As for Edward, besides in our circle, where else could he shine?"

Lady Vesper's words were clear. She belittled Edward, who came from an ordinary family and had nothing except his current position, essentially 'given' by Lady Vesper.

Don't think that Vibe Entertainment is led by Edward, in reality, everyone in the industry knows that Lady Vesper is the puppet master behind Edward.

"Although he's not satisfied with his divorce from Yris, Edward must still be thinking about his current position. Moreover, someone who has tasted the pleasures of life won't be able to endure a difficult one again."

"The point is, Edward won't leave the Vesper family company. Let him work for us for a few more years and discard him once one of my grandchildren is capable of continuing the family business."

Monica continued to nod and listened to Lady Vesper's words, occasionally responding with a few words. They both felt content and chatted happily.

Not long after, the head servant came in with Lady Vesper's phone.

"Madam, Secretary Mia is calling and wants to speak with you."

"Alright, bring me the phone."

After receiving the answer, the head servant handed the phone to Lady Vesper.

A brief greeting at the beginning, then Secretary Mia reveals the purpose of her call.

“What did you say?” Lady Vesper’s voice slightly raised upon hearing what Secretary Mia said. “You’re not making this up, are you?”

“Okay then, you go and meet Edward, then tell him to come to this house this evening.”

The phone call ended, and Lady Vesper still had anger on her face, making Monica curious.

“What’s going on, ma’am?”

“Edward has submitted his resignation.”

Monica was also slightly shocked, they had just talked about Edward unlikely to leave the Vesper family, and now they received news like this. However, between the two of them, none seemed so angry.

“Just calm down, he might just be threatening with his resignation.”

“I know,” Lady Vesper replied. They fell silent after that conversation and discussed other matters.

In his office, Edward was signing another guest arrival form. Secretary Mia, the spy placed by Lady Vesper by his side, was there.

“Boss, Lady Vesper invites you to go to the Vesper family’s house this evening.”

Without looking at the woman, Edward said, “Yris will come here with the new divorce papers this evening.” The implication was ‘I can’t go there this evening.’

Although Secretary Mia had heard Edward refuse invitations like this several times, this was the first time Edward had a reason to decline Lady Vesper’s invitation.

After being stunned for a moment, Secretary Mia regained her composure. “I’ll tell Lady Vesper that you can come in the evening, boss, how about that?”

“Whatever,” Kalix said nonchalantly.

However, after Secretary Mia left, he called his assistant Jennifer.

“Tell Yris to meet at the Vesper family’s house this evening.”

Jennifer nodded and replied yes, even though she was a bit confused about why Edward acted like this. Saying A to others and doing B in reality.

Jennifer shrugged, indifferent, whatever it was, her boss deliberately provoked Lady Vesper’s anger.

Ten minutes before the end of the workday, Edward refused to do any more tasks. He tidied up his desk and prepared to leave. Right when the work hours ended, he stood up and left on time. Almost everyone who saw him leaving had an incredulous expression and even rubbed their eyes to make sure they weren't mistaken.

During his time at the Vesper family company, Edward exerted all his skills and energy, working diligently. Especially after his promotion two years ago, he became the first to arrive and the last to leave. However, today, Edward left on time, meaning he truly left on time without going out in the evening and then returning at night to continue working.

Even Jennifer was a bit unaccustomed.

Edward drove himself to the Vesper family residence, driving the car super casually without any hurry. Once in front of the Vesper family's house, he didn't just enter as usual but waited for the servant to open the door. His actions might seem arrogant, but in reality, he was getting used to distancing himself from the family. After all, there was no longer a reason to consider them family and work hard under them.

"You came this evening," Lady Vesper's voice sounded displeased from the stairs. "Didn't you say you would come in the evening?"

"Grandmother, I reconsidered. If I come in the evening, it will surely disturb your sleep schedule."

Hearing that, Lady Vesper loosened her expression and felt a bit relieved. She asked Edward to sit.

"I heard you submitted your resignation."

Edward nodded and answered yes without changing his expression or tone of voice.

"Are you sure about that? You know you're nothing without the Vesper family. If you resign, you'll just go back to your old life."

Edward didn't answer, making Lady Vesper think that he was still thinking about the comfort of being the Vesper family's son-in-law for five years.

With that, Lady Vesper spoke again in her usual arrogance, saying, "Although your education is not that high, because your skills are good enough, I offer you to stay at Vibe Entertainment. After you're no longer a Vesper family son-in-law, you need to step down in position, I will make you a manager."

His mouth remained closed, but his gaze stared straight at the old woman. Edward didn't show any signs of temptation or the like, he was very calm without a polite smile on his lips.

Lady Vesper thought it was because he was dissatisfied, so she warned, "Don't be too greedy. With your qualifications, you won't be able to get a position as good as this in another company."

"Only in our Vesper family, you can be accepted as you are."
