For years, Nina never let Liam touch her. Always had an excuse. Not in the mood. Didn’t want a baby…

Turned out, she just couldn’t stand him.

But another man? She’d spread her legs in a heartbeat.

Liam’s gaze darkened. Nina caught it, stiffened, then quickly averted her eyes, instinctively pulling herself into Jake’s arms.

Jake smirked.

“Well, well. Look who it is. The loser husband!”

“Can’t seem to get rid of you, huh? Running into you here of all places? TitanCorp’s got standards, man. And You? You’re bringing down the vibe.”

“What the hell are you still doing here? Get lost already.”

Emily’s expression hardened.

She turned to Nina, her voice laced with disbelief.

“Nina, you were married to Liam for five years. And you’re just gonna stand there while this guy humiliates him?”

Nina’s jaw tightened, a flicker of irritation crossing her face. Then, she scoffed.

“Ex-husband, thank you very much.”

“And honestly? If it weren’t for this deadweight dragging me down for five years, I’d have taken Nova Group so much further.”

“If anything, he should be apologizing to me for wasting my time.”

“And you—” Her gaze flicked back to Emily. “You defending him now? What, got a thing for losers?”

Jake chuckled, shaking his head.

“Emily, dear, I heard your family is in deep shit financially. Maybe it’s time to drop that pride of yours and start looking for a real man who could save your family!”

“But this?” He gestured at Liam. “A man like him?”

“If word got out you were into him, people would laugh you out of town!”

Emily’s eyes flashed, with anger.

“I’m just being fair. Don’t twist my words.”

She turned back to Nina, voice sharp.

“This is my first time meeting Liam, but I’ve heard how he was treated in your family!”

“And what is this ’a man like him’? What’s wrong with him?! He is a good guy, and you may regret losing him one day!”

Liam stood silent. But inside, he felt a pang of surprise at Emily’s word.

He never expected an outsider to recognize the sacrifices he’d made over the years.

How ironic.

If not for his silent investments, Nina would’ve never grown Nova Group into what it was today.

He’d given up everything - His birthright, his wealth, His power.

All because she once said she wanted to marry a man “on the same level”, he became that man.

Took care of her. Worked like a dog. Sacrificed everything.

And Nina just turned a blind eye to everything he’d done. Never saw it. Never cared.

But Emily, a stranger?

She saw.

Nina scoffed, her patience wearing thin.

“Emily, we used to be best friends. You should know—if you’d just swallow your damn pride and ask, maybe I’d help your family out.”

“But no, you’re too damn stubborn.”

A smirk curled her lips.

“You’re here to make a deal with TitanCorp, right?”

“Don’t bother. Jake’s close with the general manager.”

“The deal’s already locked in with Nova Group. You’re just wasting your time.”

Her voice dropped into something mocking.

“Go home. Think of a plan B. Maybe, if you’re lucky, some rich guy will take pity on you.”

Liam’s gaze turned ice-cold.

“Nina.” His voice was quiet, “You’re saying Nova Group already secured a deal with TitanCorp?”

Jake smirked, puffing out his chest.

“What, you think some trash like you even knows what TitanCorp is?”

 “We’re talking Forbes-ranked. Billion-dollar deals!”

“You wouldn’t even understand the numbers if they slapped you in the face.”

Nina clung to Jake’s arm, glaring at Liam with something close to disgust.

“Liam, you don’t belong here. Just leave. I won’t even call security on you. Consider it a favor.”

Liam ignored her. He just pulled out his phone, dialed a number.

“Timothy. Ten minutes. Get down here.”

One of Liam’s principles—business should be based on merit, not backdoor deals and connections.

If Timothy, the manager at TitanCorp, had agreed to this contract just because of Jake’s influence, then Timothy’s career was as good as over.

Jake blinked. Then burst out laughing.

“Hahahaha! Liam, you’re killing me!”

“You think you can just call TitanCorp’s manager like he’s your drinking buddy?”

He reached into his wallet, pulled out a wad of cash, and tossed it at Liam’s feet.

“Here. Take this and go get your head checked, man. You’re clearly delusional.”

The bills fluttered to the ground, and Jake’s smug grin only grew wider.

Liam didn’t move. Just locked eyes with him.

Jake’s smirk widened.

“What? Not enough? C’mon, man. That’s all you’re worth anyway.”

He wrapped an arm around Nina and leaned in, voice dripping with malice.

“Consider it compensation. Five years with her, and I got her in one night. Must sting, huh?” He chuckled. “Oh, and your ex? She’s a real wild cat in bed.”

Nina’s face burned—whether in humiliation or satisfaction, Liam couldn’t tell.

But she quickly masked it with disdain, curling her lip.

“What a loser,” she muttered, tugging on Jake’s arm. “Jake, let’s go. Why waste time on someone like him? We’ve got a billion-dollar deal to celebrate tonight.”

A billion-dollar deal.

The kind that would cement Nova Group’s status among Riverside City’s elite, side by side with the Johnsons.

Liam?

He was nothing now. A man so pathetic he couldn’t even fight back.

Nina shot him a final glance.

“Last chance, Liam. Take the divorce settlement, or I’m taking it back. You’ve got until tonight.”

She glanced at Liam’s uniform, her lip curling. “Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

Emily looked like she wanted to say something, but Liam spoke first.

“Keep your money,” he said, voice eerily calm. “I have told you, I don’t want it, and I don’t need it.”

Jake snorted. “Oh yeah? And what do you need?”

Liam’s eyes glinted.

“I just need one thing.” He tilted his head. “That billion-dollar deal with TitanCorp. I’m taking it back.”
