The mocking laughter grew louder. Like a pack of hyenas circling, waiting for their prey to break.

To them, Liam wasn’t even a person. Just a joke. A punching bag for their amusement.

The air around Liam turned frosty. His eyes sharpened as he stared them down.

Then, he let out a slow, humorless chuckle.

Kevin frowned. Something about Liam today felt... different.

That laugh—it sent a prickle of unease down his spine.

Kevin shook his head – Impossible, losers always losers.

He snarled to Liam, his voice sharp as broken glass

“You piece of trash! What’s so funny?!"

“I said lick it! Don’t you hear me?”

“Or do you want me to spell it out for you?!"

Liam met Kevin’s glare, his eyes calm but deadly, like the stillness before a storm.

Kevin stiffened for a second.

Liam began to speak, his voice steady.

"Since you guys think money’s the answer to everything…Well, how about this? "

"I’ll give you a hundred grand. You lick the spit off the ground. Deal?"

Kevin’s face turned red as a tomato.

“Fuck! You’re a dead meat!”

He snapped his fingers. A dozen beefy bodyguards stepped forward, cracking their knuckles.

Kevin yelled and ordered them:

“Teach this idiot a lesson! Beat some sense into him!”

“You think you’re hot shit just because my sister threw money at you? You’re nothing but a broke nobody, living off her scraps!”

The bodyguards closed in, but Liam didn’t budge.

He’d been through worse. Way worse. His grandpa had sent him to one of the toughest training camps in the country—a place where only the strongest survived.

Out of a thousand recruits, less than ten made it out.

Liam was one of them.

And these soft toys?

Not even a warm-up.

“Stop it! Right now!”

A sharp, commanding voice cut through the tension.

All heads turned. A stunning woman strode toward them.

Her jet-black hair flowing like silk, her presence was as fierce as it was elegant.

Kevin’s expression shifted from rage to excitement. "Emily! What are you doing here?"

Emily Carter. She used to be a close friend of Nina’s.

The daughter of the once-powerful Carter family.

She’d been the object of Kevin’s obsession for years.

Even after her family fell from grace, her beauty and presence were still the stuff of legends.

She stepped in front of Liam, eyes blazing as she faced Kevin.

"At it again, huh? Throwing your weight around just because you can?”

“There’s nothing wrong with Liam’s job, Kevin!”

“That doesn’t give you the right to treat people like dirt."

Kevin’s face twisted with frustration. He’d been chasing Emily for years, and now she was defending this nobody?

"Emily, this guy’s a total loser," Kevin spat. "He dragged my sister down for five years!”

“And now he’s here flaunting the divorce settlement she gave him. I’m just putting him in his place.”

“So, step aside, Emily. Don’t embarrass me."

Emily stole a quick glance at Liam. He stood there, unfazed, hands in his pockets.

"I didn’t take a single dime of Nina’s money," Liam said flatly. "Keep running your mouth, and you’ll be hearing from my lawyer."

One of Kevin’s lackeys howled with laughter.

“Yeah, right! It was worth millions, and you didn’t take it? Who the hell are you fooling?"

Kevin smirked. “You heard him, Liam. Hand it over—the money, the house, the car. You don’t deserve any of it.”

“If it weren’t for you, my sister wouldn’t have been the laughingstock of high society. She and Jake Johnson are a match made in heaven.”

Emily’s voice turned razor-sharp. "Enough! This is TitanCorp. If you screw this up and ruin Nina’s deal with them, she’ll never forgive you."

Kevin hesitated.

Nina was the only person he feared. Everything he had came from her. He wasn’t about to throw it all away.

He shot Liam one last glare. “This isn’t over, Liam. You’ll pay for this.”

With that, he stormed off, his goons following.

Emily turned to Liam, her expression softer. "You okay?"

Liam shrugged. "Thanks, but I had it under control."

Emily arched a brow, clearly skeptical.

"Sure you did. Look, Kevin’s a snake. I helped you this time, but you might not be so lucky next time.”

“Take Nina’s money, leave Riverside City, and start fresh somewhere quiet.”

“If you stay here, they will eat you alive."

Before Liam could respond, Emily hurried off, gripping a folder and looking stressed.

She was clearly here on business—probably to pitch a deal to TitanCorp.

Liam watched her go, then followed her inside the building. At the elevator, he ran into her again.

Emily blinked.

"What are you doing here? This isn’t a place for you.”

“TitanCorp has its own cafeteria, and nobody ordered pizza.”

“If you go any further, security will toss you out."

Before Liam could answer, an all-too-familiar voice cut in.

"Liam! Emily! What are you two doing together? Do you even know where you are?"

Liam suppressed a groan.

Of all the people to run into…

Nina.

She strutted in, arm wrapped around Jake Johnson, looking every bit the high-society power couple.

Liam’s eyes flicked over her...

He saw a fresh hickey on her neck.

His jaw tightened.
