Chapter 8

“Do you know how much that necklace costs? How are you going to replace it?”

Yve appeared panicked and stressed. For years, she had been giving Christian a monthly allowance of 3 million. If Christian hadn’t used any of it for three years, he would only have around 108 million left. That meant he would have to save for another 4 years to be able to replace the necklace.

It wasn’t possible for Yve to replace it herself. She didn’t have that much money. She only had 20 million in her savings.

But seeing the panic in his wife’s eyes, Christian smiled. He was glad to see that she still cared about him.

If Christian had done this a few days ago, he wouldn’t be this calm. He might have been even more panicked than Yve.

“Darling, I brought you lunch. Where would you like to eat? In the room or in the garden?” Christian handed a red lunchbox to his wife.

“Wish-wish-wish... you’ve ruined someone else’s property, and you can still act so relaxed like this? Yve is panicking, but you’re acting like you don’t care,” Declan said with an unfriendly look.

Then Christian turned to Declan.

“What’s it to you?” Christian asked.

Declan laughed at the question. Then he said, “Are you stupid, or pretending to be? Or... oh, I know. You want to run away from your responsibilities, don’t you? Just like running away from your responsibilities as a husband.”

Then Declan’s gaze turned serious. He said, “Let me tell you, this necklace is a limited edition purchased from Milan. When I bought it, it cost 500 million. You won’t be able to afford something like this in your lifetime. And now it’s damaged. You have to replace it.”

Yve closed her eyes. The word “replace” was something she really didn’t want to hear right now.

She handed the lunchbox back to her husband.

“I’m not hungry!”

Declan could feel Yve’s disappointment and resentment toward Christian. With that, he felt emboldened to insult and show himself as superior to Yve’s paid husband.

“You can’t compensate? In that case, bow down and lick my shoes clean. After that, I’ll consider it done!” Declan exclaimed with a victorious smile.

Asking Christian to bow down and lick his shoes? Who did he think he was?

Christian smiled thinly. He didn’t immediately get angry and attack Declan. This time, he could control his hot temper better.

“What? Who do you think you are to command me like that?” Christian asked so casually.

Christian’s relaxed attitude truly disgusted Declan and made him want to punch him.

“Christian!” Yve shouted, annoyed that her husband kept challenging Declan. What she was doing was solely to save Christian.

“Declan is from the Wilson Family. You know, they are one of the richest families in East New York and Their company’s assets are worth more than 200 billion. Stop challenging him! It’s not just you who’s getting involved because of your arrogant attitude. I’m dragged into this too!” Yve scolded with a restrained voice, not wanting to create a big scene that would attract a lot of people.

Declan smiled. He felt defended by Yve.

This morning, Christian was contacted by Darrell, a mysterious man sent by his father to help him.

In the phone call, Darrell said that Christian could visit Global Money Investment Bank, or GMI Bank for short, to activate his account and Emerald card.

It was also mentioned that once the account and card were activated, all the profits from BIG Consortium Corp would be deposited directly into his account. And the inheritance money given by Carlos Demetri would also automatically go in.

This was why Christian was so calm when Declan asked him to replace the damaged diamond necklace.

With the wealth he now possessed, buying the diamond necklace was like buying candy.

Christian turned to Declan. Then he said, “Do you still want me to replace that necklace? In that case, give me your bank account number. I’ll pay for it.”

Declan was surprised. Then he burst into laughter.

“Hahaha... you’re the best bluffer I’ve ever met. And honestly, it amuses me.”

Christian put on a serious face. His gaze was very sharp.

“Quickly give it to me! It’s nauseating to keep looking at your face. No wonder Yve never wanted to meet you all this time,” Christian said.

Declan stopped laughing. From Christian’s seriousness and sharp gaze, he immediately remembered what happened last night when General Octavian came to defend Christian.

“So arrogant!” Declan said. “There’s no way you can afford to compensate! Don’t even dream about it!”

Yve then bowed down and picked up the fallen diamond necklace and the broken pieces, saying, “Declan, thank you for this necklace. I love it.”

Christian’s heart was touched when he saw Yve bowing down to pick up the diamond necklace and the broken pieces to save him from trouble.

“A Demetri wife must not do this.”

Christian then took the necklace from Yve’s hand, slammed it onto the floor, and stomped on it until it shattered.

“You don’t deserve to wear this necklace. You only deserve to wear a one-of-a-kind necklace in this world. I will get one for you!” Christian said, determined.

Yve and Declan were stunned. They never expected Christian to be this resolute.

Christian turned to his wife and said, “You don’t need to worry about the money needed for the company. I will give you 10 billion.”

Yve could see very clearly that Christian was sincere with his words.

But Declan didn’t. He saw Christian as a legendary comedian. He laughed.

“You want to sell a kidney, huh? How much? 10 billion? Hahaha....”

Yve took a deep breath and said, “Enough, Christian. Stop talking nonsense all the time. Don’t make me even more confused!”

Christian nodded his head. Then he handed the lunchbox back to his wife.

“Okay, I’ll prove it. You have lunch now. I cooked buttered shrimp and broccoli for you.”

After saying that, Christian left the 10-story De Delta company building.

Using his old motorbike, Christian headed to GMI Bank to activate his account and the special debit card called Emerald.

It didn’t take long, only 10 minutes, and he arrived at a luxurious bank building.

The luxury presented by the bank was in line with its clientele, all of whom were conglomerates.

Confidently, Christian, wearing a faded black shirt and jeans with many holes due to thinning, walked confidently toward the entrance.

Seeing a man who was so contrasting to the usual customers, a security guard stopped Christian.

“Excuse me, sir, what can I help you with?” the security guard asked politely.

“Oh, I want to activate an account,” Christian replied casually.

“I’m sorry, sir. Only the owner can activate it. So please tell your boss to come here in person,” said the tall, skinny security guard.

Christian furrowed his brow and asked, “Boss? Who do you mean by boss? I want to activate my own account.”

The security guard was surprised.

But suddenly, a woman in a tight formal outfit approached. Her body was proportionate and very appealing to the male eye.

“What’s going on here? Don’t chat in front of the door!” scolded the woman.

The security officer bowed. Then he said, “I’m sorry, Ms. Elara. But this person said he wants to activate his account. I’m not sure about him.”

Elara glanced sharply at Christian from head to toe.

“You’re at the wrong bank. Go away from here! Here, you need a minimum of 20 billion to open an account. You clearly don’t have that much money to open an account. Don’t mess around here. Go away!” Elara exclaimed with a disgusted look.
