Chapter 13
Inside the car, the cabbie had been entertaining David with all kinds of gossip.

Despite the fact that David refused to utter a word, he never stopped talking. It was as if he had swallowed a disc and now had to replay every recorded speech.

At a certain point, David regretted assuming that the cabbie's apologies were genuine. With the way he talked so much, it was very obvious that he intended to play a joke on him when he stopped the cab.

He came to the conclusion that the cabbie was one of those whose attitude would never cease to reveal itself, no matter how hard it was. David had lost count of how many times he had asked him to keep his gossip to himself during the few minutes of the drive. Still, the cabbie would find a way to bring up a new topic.

Finally, he shut his mouth. It was as if a heavy, stinging rain on an aluminum zinc roof had just ended. A peaceful silence made David feel better now.
