Morning came, and everyone departed from the village. Though we have a long march ahead since all of us use carriages and horses, we will soon be at our destination.
Inside the carriage, I'm currently sitting in front of Elena.
"Lady Elena, I've been meaning to ask. May I know besides being a soldier, are there any jobs I can get?" Jin
"Hmm, yes. There are a lot of different guilds currently operating in the Narva Kingdom. But the most famous is Adventurers Guild and Merchant Guild." Elena
"I see. May I know what adventurers guild do?" Jin
"They usually hunt demons." Elena
"Since job in Adventurers guild is extremely dangerous. Beginners are usually trained by the guild during their first day. Once they passed the training, they will be officially registered and will be given an ID. They can also pay an extra gold coin to get a mentor. The mentor is usually within the top 50 in the guild, so the pay is considerably high. But decision-wise, it's good since the mentor will come along with you during your first week and will help and advise you throughout your mission."
"I see, that's how they operate. I think I will try to register in the Adventurer Guild." Jin
"If it's your decision, no one will stop you beside you are powerful enough to pass the training easily." Elena
"Haha. I'm not that powerful Lady Elena." Jin awkwardly laughs
"No, I think you are since you easily killed a demon bear yesterday. Elena said while nodding.
So, the guild here is the same as the fantasy novels I read in my previous life. Do they also search for ruin? Hmm. I'll find out once we arrived in the capital city.
We talk a lot more but when I asked regarding the information about the nobles and royal family, Elena only provide the name and their ranking.
Which I understand since it's confidential information and she also said that I must be careful not to inquire more when we arrive in the capital city because the soldiers and knights might mistake me as a spy.
I voiced my agreement but inside my head, I will surely investigate the nobles and royal family since my brain is telling me that somehow, the tension between Ruel Empire and the Fyn Kingdom will be the reason why 5 years from now, all races will be ceased to exist.
That's why I started to contemplate whether to register in the guild or stay as a personal guard of Elena.
Both have different pros and cons.
If I stay as a personal guard. Learning information about the nobles and the royal family is faster since Elena herself is noble. The only thing I was worried is that my time is not in my control anymore since I will act as a meatshield for her safety.
If I register and become part of the Adventurers Guild. I can have all the time in the world. No one will dictate to me what to do. I can easily move where and whenever I want. But the con is losing an opportunity to learn about the nobles and royal family faster.
Yes, I could learn about them if I stayed as an adventurer, but I need a large sum of money just to get information.
Arghh. What a headache.
Suddenly an idea sparks in my head. I can be her personal guard during important days such as visits to the palace and nobles' gatherings or traveling outside the kingdom. And I can continue as an adventurer during her relaxing days.
I hope she accepts.
And the God of Luck gives me an opportunity.
**
During our travel, the people are stable most of the time, but you can't change the fact that some people are nervous.
What if a monster attacks them?
The villagers' number is 1,000 while the soldier's number is 200, the magicians are 20 and the Knights' number is 25.
Of course, like the usual web novel and light novel I read in my previous life. In this kind of setting, the attack of a monster is inevitable.
And so, the soldier surrounded the villagers to hold off the monster. And me? Well, Elena said that it's fine to stay in the carriage with her. Since Castor, the chief of security in the village and currently the captain of soldiers confirmed that the monster will be easy to deal with as they are only rabbit demons.
After 3 minutes of fighting, the soldiers safely killed the demons with ease.
Castor knocks on our carriage and opens the door.
He confirmed that all the rabbit demons were killed. But I have this ominous feeling.
Suddenly we heard roars. And yes, what a red flag.
Five demon bears slowly walking towards on our direction and soon arrive on the road.
The people begin to panic. Some started to scream, and others want to run.
But Elena steps out of the carriage and tries to calm everyone.
"Everyone, please calm down. Don't panic, we can handle them, we have magicians, knights, and soldiers that can guarantee your safety." Elena confidently shouts.
Elena gives orders to everyone
"Captain Castor surrounds each demon bear with 5 knights and 10 soldiers. The Magician will support us on the back. And the rest will protect the villagers. Their safety is the priority." Elena confidently said and turn her gaze toward me.
It's your normal but effective strategy.
"Jin, please help us to kill the demons." Elena pleadingly said
"Of course, Lady Elena. I will help and protect you at the same time." I confidently said.
Damn! I must give my best performance with this so Elena can accept my job proposal later.
The knights and soldiers act on the orders of Elena.
The magician begins to chant, wait chant? Am I hearing it right? Why do they need to chant?
"Earth that is sturdy, please protect us with your blessing. " Some Magician chanted
"Light that turns away the darkness. Please lend us your power." the other magicians chanted
"Power that can bring destruction, struck my opponent at once" Some magicians ready to attack at any given time
I turn my gaze towards the magicians and magic circle stars appearing on their staff. Some provided physical abilities to knights and soldiers while some are on standby to heal those who will fall.
Really? I thought people in this world can use magic without chanting which I did yesterday to help Elena.
The fight started without too much ado and the demon bear is definitely strong against soldiers and can easily kill them with just one hit but with help of physical enhancement from magicians, they can somehow dodge.
The demon bears rear up on their hind legs and try to knock the knights and soldiers over with their powerful paws, but the knights use their shield to block which they successfully did but their knees start trembling.
With just one attack, the demon bear made them shake their knees. It's terrifying if you're a normal person. But for me, it's just easy breezy.
I don't know why but there is something inside of me that gives me the confidence to easily killed all these demon bears.
I can use my magic and attack them but as I plan earlier I need to perform splendidly. Who wants to be a personal guard only using magic power? Yes, you can but I need to use a sword.
Good thing, I learned to study swordsmanship in my previous life and not to boast but I was in the top 5 in the school I enrolled.
First, I enrolled in the school of martial arts for the sole purpose of self-defense. I think I'm doing great in my class so I join the competition but sadly, I didn't even get to the top 10.
I was so bitter that time and ready to go home but I happened to watch the swordsmanship competition.
I was awestruck by that time. It's not your regular sword dance performance we saw on TV but a real swordfight. The way they attack and defend using their sword is awesome.
Of course, they are using wooden swords and they are equipped with protective armor which made them more aggressive at each other knowing that they will only get injured not sliced, or die during the fight.
After I saw that, I drop my subject and switch to swordsmanship and trained hard. And oh boy, not to boast, really. I am included in the top 5 in swordsmanship.
Now you are doubting me why I boasted about being included top 5 in swordsmanship but died pathetically?
Let me tell you logically. You cannot win against four people with a gun. No matter how quick your response is, it's still not quicker on bullets.
I fix my gaze on the bear that easily overwhelmed the 5 knights and 10 soldiers and tank the magic attack of some magicians, though it gives a severe injury, it didn't stop it from rampaging.
After three more attacks from the demon bear, the knights and soldiers back away.
The demon bear suddenly turns its gaze toward Elena's location and runs to her.
I unsheathed the sword on the scabbard lent to me by a knight.
I ready myself, in just three seconds, the bear is in front of me and Elena.
I step forward and perform a lunge. It directly hit the bear on its paw. Without wasting any seconds, I perform a lunge again. The bear parried my attack which made me smile.
I move my sword and make a stance for a remise attack.
The demon bear shouted in pain and without too much problem I lunge my sword upward directly to the bear's mouth.
*Thud
The demon bear is killed by me in a mere 3 seconds which stunned Elena and the people around me.
I grin and commend myself for doing a good job. And to add more—
"Don't lose focus, aim the head of the demon bear. Magicians try to use magic power to divert the attention of enemies. Soldiers, attack the leg of the demon bear and the knight will use that opening to kill it." I shouted confidently.
After giving some more orders, the 5 demon bears were killed.
Everyone is looking at me with their eyes sparkling. Some are stunned that includes Elena.
I *cough on myself.
Success!
After some time, we saw the majestic view of Narva Kingdom. "That is the Narva Kingdom, the capital is called Lithe." Elena happily introduced the kingdom I think the wall surrounding the city is 50 meters high. From here you can see a sturdy gigantic wooden gate on the entrance with two towers on each side which housed many soldiers. One can say it's served as a watchtower. Apparently, there are 3 gates in the kingdom with two towers on each gate that faced three nations surrounding the Kingdom. They are called North Gate faced the Fyn Kingdom, South Gate faced on Ruel Empire and West Gate faced the Vitalis Kingdom. There is no gate that faced the Great Forest of Yorel since the road from there intersected on the road on South Gate. "Mr. Jin, I'm still amazed how you defeat that demon bear in just three seconds," Elena said happily "Lady Elena, you can just call me by my name. No need to address me in that way." Jin awkwardly said. "If that's what you wish, then Jin. With yo
Curiosity can kill a cat. Elena was always thought by her father not to put her nose too much into everyone's problems. I followed my father's teaching. I always keep a proper distance to avoid unnecessary attention that can bring danger to myself or my family. But I can't help to investigate the background of Jin. He's powerful enough to kill the demon bear in mere three seconds. Demon bears can be killed by 5 knights alone in the past but due to sudden changes and the rampaging of demons, they become powerful that it takes almost 15 knights to kill them. But Jin alone can easily kill it. The swordsmanship the way he fights is normal. All knights know that kind of move. What amazed me most is his power. Did he imbue magic on his sword to kill the demon bear? No, it's impossible but if he did, everyone including me should notice it beside his sword will shine slightly. And he didn't say any chant so it's impossible. But when I asked the magicians and Captain Klein about it, the
A noble should show very fine or admirable qualities. That very characteristic defines Earl Albert Haynes, the father of Elena. Once we arrived at the castle of Earl Haynes. Elena briefed his father about what happened from the start of our encounter until our return to Lithe City. She also mentioned that I will be her guard and study with her at Riverdale Elite Academy. Marquess Albert stares at me for God knows how long. Once they are done talking, Elena proceeds to her room to rest. And here I am, receiving a deathly glare from knights. Apparently, after Earl Albert introduced himself, he ordered me to instantly train with the Falcon Knight without questioning any details told by her daughter. The reason for the deathly glare? Imagine applying for a scholarship to a high-end university, you grind yourself to study and hoping to pass the test when suddenly, the son of a powerful individual who is also a sponsor of the said university wants his son or daughter to get the schola
They said a battle or duel between swordsman means a lot. It's because the skills they practiced are at stake. Which I agreed. On earth, I bleed and sweat to reach the top in swordsmanship. Today's match is an opportunity to show it. And when I say opportunity, there is no way I will show any slightest hesitation. Luckily, I only fell asleep for almost 2 hours. After a bit of lazing around and strategizing, I headed to the training room. The castle of Albert Haynes has its own colosseum. The audience is the majority of Knights and Soldiers. There are also those vassal families of Albert Haynes. A noble below Earl status. They are seated in the VIP room while the main family of Haynes is seated in the most elegant VIP room. A lot of commotion is currently happening on the public seat on the colosseum. They make a bet on who will win this match. Of course, all the Knights are in favor of Vice-Captain Leo while the soldier led by Chief Soldier Klein favors me. I think Chief Kl
After the referee signal to continue the fight, Leo hurriedly launches all attacks that he knows within 10 seconds. I evade and deflect some attacks using the unsharpened part of my mana-coated sword. I find it rather easy to infuse my mana on the sword. But it's hard to keep up with him. You can't blame me, he's a knight and ever since I work in the corporate world, I never tried to use my sword again. This guy is really pissed, even all the audience who bet on me was pissed. Actually, everyone is pissed. Well, whatever, as I really don't care what they think. The important is I must win this duel no matter what. All the audience started to boo and shout that the duel is boring since all I did was evade. As the booing continues, my lips crept up in a smirk. It's time to counter-attack. I somehow grasp his attack pattern and the damage it could inflict if I failed to evade or block his attack. I still need to be wary since everyone knows that a sword practitioner has his/her ow
After the announcement, I tried my hardest to steadily walk toward outside the colosseum. This is bad. My whole body is trembling, and the dizziness is unbearable. I tried hard to reach one of the rooms in the colosseum. I won the battle earlier but the dizziness I felt is stronger with every second pass by which made me fall to the ground. "Damn it…" I muttered faintly and darkness surrounds me. ** Hmm, what is this? The last thing that I remember was winning the duel and failing to reach one of the nearby rooms to rest and falling to the ground due to dizziness. I survey my surroundings that is like a ruin. There was a destroyed castle, and a lot of destroyed flags, and the wind that is blowing in my direction made me uncomfortable. This is without a doubt a battlefield. Suddenly the ground shook and made me almost fall to the ground. Then a shockwave was released. I was startled when one by one a silhouette appeared before my eyes. It started from 5, then become a hundr
After the duel, all the noble vassals of Albert Haynes are currently staying inside his castle. The soldiers and knights that watched the fight are also forbidden to go outside.Albert ordered Lina that all the soldiers and knights stationed outside his castle that is not present during the duel are not to enter the vicinity until further notice and continue patrolling the area and villages governed by Albert.Inside the castle, the majority of the nobles know the reason why Albert ordered such things. The head of each noble family that attended the duel earlier received an invitation from Albert which the butler reiterate that the subject of such meeting is highly confidential. But everyone knows the agenda. To keep the words from getting out that someone can use magic without chanting. There are twelve noble families under Albert. Seven from Viscount Nobility and five from Baron Nobility. Not all vassals under Albert Haynes are loyal to him. The majority only use his name and influe
"Please take a seat." Albert pointed to one of the sofas beside the long table."I'm going to be frank. What conversation we will have right now must stay in this room. I will not permit you to utter one word outside about the topic as this is highly confidential." Albert continued in a firm voice.*GulpWhat is he talking about?"What do you mean?" I asked in a worried tone."Before that, I want you to answer my question first." Albert"Sure, if within my knowledge." Jin"Then, can you cast any magic without chanting?" AlbertSo, it is about that huh. Though I have a hunch but it is still unexpected. During the great war, humans can cast any magic without chanting."I can't say for sure, but I can cast magic without using any chant concerning the basic elements such as fire, water, and air except earth. Outside of the three, I am not sure since I still didn't try it either." JinI didn't want anyone to learn that I had earth attributes. Because this attribute is the strongest on basi
