Chapter 0006

The call was switched off by Aveline, making Elara growl angrily.
"That woman is really rude! Even if she doesn't know your identity, she should have been polite since you are still in a relationship."
Cassian agreed with Elara. But he was grateful that his condition revealed Aveline's true attitude. He could not imagine that Aveline was being nice because of his high position in the military.
"It's okay. I just need to return her disrespect, right?"
He smiled calmly at the thought of what he would do to Ronin, Aveline, and the future people looking down on him after he became blind.

The next day, Cassian was going to court alone at the appointed time. Elara was not with him because he did not want to involve her in his personal affairs.

Aveline was already there with Isabella. She waited impatiently for Cassian to arrive.

"He will come, right? I'm afraid he ran away because he doesn't want to divorce me," she bit her thumb nervously.

The thought of Cassian running away and not signing the divorce documents made Isabella anxious, too. If the divorce were not confirmed soon, Cassian would still be Aveline's husband.

Divorce requires the consent of both parties because the court will not approve if there is a lack of evidence.

"You and that useless man should get a divorce as soon as possible!" Isabella stated. "If he doesn't come here, I will find a way to get you two divorced."

Aveline frowned. "How? Cassian didn't see me for three years, but the court could have excused it because he went to the army during that time."

"That's easy. You can say he cheated on you after three years of not seeing you."

"Alright. Let's do that if he doesn't come!"

Right after Aveline uttered that sentence, a car pulled up in front of her, and Cassian got out of it. She was confused when she realized he was no longer wearing his sunglasses or blind stick.

Isabella also noticed the oddity. Blind people need at least a stick or someone to help them. But Cassian, who claimed to be blind, drove the car alone.

"You said you were blind because of the war," Aveline could not help but feel suspicious.

Cassian quickly replied, "I cured my blindness yesterday."

"That's impossible!" Isabella pointed at Cassian as if he was the prime suspect in a case. "You must be lying about your blindness!"

Aveline agreed with her secretary. There was no way blindness could be cured in a short period. One of her business customers was a famous ophthalmologist.

The doctor explained that blindness caused by optic nerve damage could not be cured immediately. If Cassian lost his sight during the war, it was likely due to head trauma in battle.

But he claimed that his blindness had been cured. Aveline refused to believe that nonsense!

"Were you pretending to be blind to gain my sympathy so I won't divorce you? And you stop pretending since I've already made up my mind. How shameless!"

Cassian shook his head. "I found a great doctor so that my blindness can be cured."

"You are ridiculous!" Isabella laughed mockingly. "If there were such a doctor, he would have become filthy rich!"

"If you don't believe me, that is. I came here to take care of the divorce, not discuss anything else. I've already signed the divorce documents."

Seeing Cassian casually hand over the divorce documents made Aveline's heart throb with pain. It was true that she was the one who wanted this divorce, but how could Cassian not look the least bit sad?

She became angry at the thought and hurled accusations at Cassian. "It seems like you've been having fun with other women all this time. That's why you don't care about our marriage!"

"What are you talking about? Didn't you file for this divorce?"

Cassian wanted to laugh at the absurdity of the accusation. Being busy with the country's conflict left him no time to think about other women, but Aveline accused him of bad behavior.

"Stop accusing me. I don't even think badly of you even though we just met again after three years," he said as he walked into the court.

Aveline gritted her teeth, shouting, "Do you mean I'm the one who cheated on you? Hey, answer me!"

Her anger grew as Cassian ignored her.

"Calm down, boss. The important thing is that you will be free from a man like him today," Isabella comforted Aveline and brought her into the court.

Cassian and Aveline finalized their divorce proceedings that day. A relationship no longer bound them.

Finally, Aveline was free from Cassian. If people knew she was married to him, she could say he was a bad husband, so she divorced him. Thus, her reputation would not be tainted by Cassian's name.

"Don't even think about contacting me again after this," Aveline warned Cassian. "I hope you don't make any trouble in the future. It's troublesome if people know you're my ex-husband."

"You speak as if I were a troublemaker. I also ask that you not contact me again and behave yourself."

Cassian got into his car after saying that with a straight face. Aveline and Isabell could only curse silently at his attitude.

He was going to his old home. Elara was waiting for him there. The house was not sued by Aveline so it was still his.

"Why are you waiting at the gate?" he frowned in surprise when he arrived at his house and saw that Elara had not yet entered.

Elara smiled. "I was waiting for you."

"Then let's go in together."

They opened the gate and entered the spacious old house. But when they arrived at the door, it was already open.

"Could it be an intruder?" Cassian had become cautious since he had an enemy.

Elara shook her head. "I just arrived, so I didn't know anyone had entered the house first. I'm sorry I should have checked inside first to ensure your safety."

"That's okay. I'll check inside, you wait here."

Cassian walked sneakily into the house. His eyes narrowed at the sight of someone he recognized.

"Liam, why are you here?"

The young man called Liam turned his head. He was relaxing, watching a movie while eating popcorn. His feet rested on the table.

"Who are you? Why are you trespassing in someone's house?" Liam snapped at Cassian.

"I'm Cassian, the man who once married your sister," Cassian explained patiently to his brother-in-law. "Aveline and I are officially divorced. This house is mine."

Liam examined Cassian and remembered that he was Aveline's husband. He snorted in annoyance.

"You're a pathetic man for being divorced, aren't you? Leave now! You're ruining my day."

Cassian knew that Liam was very rude. In the past, Liam had often insulted him but he kept quiet because of his relationship with Aveline. They had divorced, so he did not have to consider anything.

He forced Liam to stand up from the sofa. "According to the agreement, this house belongs to me. You or anyone else has no right to live here without my permission!"

Right then, a woman's sharp voice roared throughout the room.

"What are you doing to my son? Let him go, you barbarian!"

It was Stella, Cassian's mother-in-law. She came from the kitchen carrying snacks for Liam and saw her son arguing with Cassian.

"Did you come to ask me a favor?" Stella sneered. "I won't persuade Aveline even if you threaten me with this house!"

Cassian released Liam and threw him back on the sofa. He controlled his anger. This would not end well if he lost control.

"You don't have to do anything to save my marriage. Aveline and I are divorced. She agreed to give me this house, so you guys can no longer live here," he clarified in a calm tone.

But Liam and Stella snapped at him, "No way! We've lived here for three years, and you're kicking us out?"

"I'm just defending my rights. After all, this house was mine to begin with. You guys are staying here because I'm married to Aveline."

Liam was enraged that Cassian seemed to be mocking him. He stood up and grabbed him by the collar. "Then sign the new agreement. Leave the house to me!"
