The moment Jeremiah opened the door of Reginald’s Study and was about to step out, he saw David standing a couple of feet away and feigning that fake smile he always does when he sees him.

Being able to read David like a book, Jeremiah knew that he was pretending not to be annoyed about not hearing anything that was said in the Study after trying his best to eavesdrop on the conversation he had with, Reginald, Kingston, and Obadiah.

“Cousin— I mean, My Lord,” David said.

Jeremiah groaned as he looked at David, skeptically. This was the first time David was addressing him as “My Lord” which was strange because he didn’t do it immediately after finding out that he was Lord Crimson.

Everyone that knew about Lord Crimson and found out that Jeremiah was him quickly changed how they addressed him from his name or young master to “My Lord” except for David, who kept calling him cousin until he now, so what changed?

Knowing that David wouldn’t do anything without a reason, Jeremiah concluded

“Can I come in?” Jeremiah asked and Brenda, who was still shocked that he was there in front of her, remained speechless for a moment. “Hello? Anybody home?” Jeremiah snapped his finger in front of Brenda’s face and pulled her back to her senses. “I’m sorry, young master Jeremiah. What did you say—?” Brenda asked but was cut off.“Of course, young master. You can come in” said Kristin, who found a way to stand up on one foot, holding onto the bed frame so she doesn’t put weight on her sprained ankle. “You own the entire estate, this room including, so you’re the last person who should be asking for permission to do anything or enter anywhere,” Kristin said, a flirting tone in her voice. Brenda, who knew what her best friend was doing, quickly turned to Kristin and smiled in approval. “No, this is your room so no matter who I am, I still have to ask for permission to come in,” Jeremiah said and Kristin bowed her head in concession. “Anyway, thanks for inviting me in, and don’t wo

“Thank you very much, Young Master! I’ll make sure to share your number with Kristin later” Brenda said with a huge smile on her face then she waited for Kristin to say something too, but the girl was quiet.Brenda quickly looked at Kristin and used her eyes and expression to tell her to say something to Jeremiah.“That’s right, thank you young master Jeremiah! It’s great that I’ll be able to reach out to you whenever I want— I mean, need your help” Kristin said, smiling awkwardly.“You’re welcome,” Jeremiah smirked then took a deep breath, sighed, and placed his hands on his thighs.“Anyway, since I’ve confirmed that you’re doing okay and my reason for visiting has been completed, I’ll be taking my leave and going back to my room,” Jeremiah said as he stood up. Brenda quickly stood up too, saying “Let me open the door for—“Jeremiah stopped her with a hand gesture.“It’s fine. I can walk myself out so please stay with your friend” he said.“O-okay, young master” Brenda stuttered and

I know what Elizabeth told you to do and my answer is no” Jeremiah said and Christabel’s eyes widened.“W-what are you talking about, young mas—?” Christabel stuttered while also smiling nervously, but Jeremiah cut her off, again.“Trust me, you don’t want to play that game with me.” Jeremiah said coldly and Christabel gulped “I know the secondary objective Elizabeth gave you when she told you to act as my personal help and I know this because she did the same to Lynette”“Oh,” Christabel said, her eyes blinking multiple times. She had thought she would be able to get away with it but was surprised that Jeremiah put a stop to it before it even began. “I’m fine with you taking over from Lynette and helping me like she used to, but delete every thought concerning the second part of your assignment from your mind, got it?” Jeremiah instructed.Christabel nodded.“As you wish, young master. “So that’s what the old man looks like” Jeremiah commented, staring intently at David’s grandfather and knowing that both of them wouldn’t have a good relationship. As someone who had taken away the kingship from his grandson—a goal that had been David’s grandfather’s lifelong mission—the elderly man was unlikely to be fond of Jeremiah.Just then, Jeremiah furrowed his eyebrows and groaned curiously when he saw someone else’s leg stretch out of the opened car door. “Who’s that?” Jeremiah asked himself. All he could tell was that the person was female and young, but with those two information and the fact that she sat with David’s grandfather in the back seat, he could make an educated guess as to who it could have been.“Aren’t you going to help me out?” Jeremiah heard the mysterious lady say to David whose response was a frown.“What do I look like? Get down yourself or ask the chauffeur to help you” David retorted, annoyed as he stared at the lady in the car. “Grandpa, David is be

Inside his room, Jeremiah locked eyes with Jessica, who was surprised to see him, then he saw her try to get David and their grandfather to look up at him. Satisfied with what he had seen, Jeremiah closed the window, dropped the drapes, and stepped back, which made David and their grandfather to only see a closed window when they looked up.From his room, Jeremiah heard David patronizing and ridiculing Jessica for acting like she saw something when she didn’t and he chuckled at how funny the two sibling’s dynamic was.For someone like David, who acted like he was above everyone just because he was royalty, to not be respected by his younger sister was funny to witness. Jeremiah did a little stretching to free up his joints then he became ready to tackle his day.He was about to go to the bathroom to freshen up when he heard a knock on the door and he grimaced, wondering who it could be. “Who is that?” Jeremiah asked. “Young Master, it’s Christabel” she replied and Jeremiah groaned

Inside Reginald’s study. While David and his grandfather sat opposite Reginald and were engaged in a lighthearted discussion, Jessica, appearing bored and uninterested in what was being said, sat on the desk with her legs crossed and idly played with the items on it.She flipped through the edge of documents on the desk with her thumb, moved the pen around with her finger, and hummed the melody of whatever song popped into her head.Annoyed by her actions, David—who also didn’t want to be there but felt obligated to behave—kicked the desk discreetly, ensuring only Jessica would notice.Jessica paused what she was doing and glanced at David, who subtly signaled her to behave through his expression. She then rolled her eyes and clicked her tongue in response. She folded all her fingers except the middle one, then glanced down at it, prompting David to do the same. That’s when he realized she was telling him to go fuck himself.Jessica chuckled then continued moving the pen with the midd

With his eyes closed, Jeremiah heard Obadiah recite the spell to test his magic but felt nothing for a whole minute which made him wonder if it was even going to work. The shaman did say that he had only used the spell on humans so could it be that it was ineffective when used on him, the reincarnation of Lord Crimson? Jeremiah was starting to second guess the whole thing when, to his surprise, he started feeling something in his core which was strange because until that moment he didn’t even know he had a core. But, because of what Obadiah was doing, it became too noticeable to ignore. It was a warm feeling that made his fingers tingle and skin sensitive to every stimulus, which said a lot because his senses were already heightened to an insane level before they started the spell.Next thing Jeremiah knew, he stopped hearing what Obadiah was saying as it went from coherent recitation to mumbling to a muffled mess and lastly to silence. Everything happened in the span of a second a

“Flames of consumption? What’s that?” Jeremiah asked. “Truthfully, I don’t know that much about it as the only information I have is what I was able to eavesdrop from Dark Emblem’s communication channel before they made doing that near impossible to achieve,” Obadiah said and Jeremiah groaned.“Then according to the little you do know, what is it?” Jeremiah asked. “Well, it is what the name implies. Instead of flames that burn whatever they engulf, the flames of consumption absorb the energy of whatever they touch. The way oxygen is what determines the intensity and duration of a fire, the energy of whatever is being consumed is what fuels the flames of consumption and since the energy of a plant is what makes look healthy, it becoming dried and withering is the result of losing it” Obadiah said.Jeremiah grimaced and groaned in frustration as yet another question arose after hearing the explanation.“But how did this happen? I thought you were just testing my magic to figure out ho

Reginald had to admit that Jeremiah made a lot of sense with what he had said. Things were very dangerous with Dark Emblem knowing Jeremiah’s whereabouts and were going to attack him at any moment. Reginald was already someone they wanted dead— although he wasn’t a priority like Jeremiah and Obadiah were— so it would basically be the same as putting him on a silver platter if he was anywhere near Jeremiah whenever Dark Emblem decided to attack. They would definitely kill him first if the opportunity presented itself. Or worst-case scenario, they would try to use him as a hostage and make Jeremiah unable to attack as strongly as he would have. Granted, the likelihood Dark Emblem does that is very low because they didn’t have a good impression of Lord Crimson and thought he didn’t care about any human being enough for them to work as a hostage against him. However, the fact that Jeremiah risked his life to save everyone at the welcome ceremony, made things different and that narrat

Jeremiah went ahead to tell Reginald, Kingston, and Lynette what happened— the same as he did with Obadiah, shocking them with each detail he gave, and when he was done, they went silent for an extended period before regaining their composure.[“I didn’t think you would be discovered this quickly after moving back to Bakers View, son”] Reginald said and then groaned—pondering what to say next. [“However, now that the cat is out of the bag and they are coming for you, we have no choice but to look for a way forward. With that said, what’s your plan?”] “My plan, huh? Well, it’s very simple. To fight!” Jeremiah said, resolve echoing from his eyes. Reginald chuckled lightly.[“I wouldn’t have expected anything different. In that case, you will be needing help if you hope to survive this. I’m assuming you’ve decided to have Bakers View as the battleground”]“Yes, I do. This is my hometown, where those Dark Emblem assholes caused my mother to get into an accident that put her in a coma w

Jeremiah returned the relic to where he got it from and without wasting any second, he took out his phone from his pocket and called Kingston. After a few seconds, the call was answered. [“Young Master, Jeremiah”] Kingston greeted. “Good afternoon, Kingston,” Jeremiah replied.[“Good afternoon young master. How is your—?”] Kingston said but Jeremiah cut him off.“Before you ask any questions, I want to know if you’re anywhere close to my father,” Jeremiah asked, the urgency in his voice eliciting intrigue in the butler.[“Unfortunately, I’m not in Master Reginald’s presence but he is in the estate”]“That’s good. Now, I want you to go find my father and put me on speaker phone cause there’s something I want to tell the two of you—“ Jeremiah said but was interrupted. [“Is that Jeremiah?”] Lynette asked excitedly. [“Yes, Lady Lynette. It is”] Kingston replied and Jeremiah groaned.[“Great! I’ve been dying to talk to him so give me the phone!”] Lynette instructed, her hand already

Jeremiah walked around the store in a soured mood, arrived at the front, and got on his motorcycle. He drove back home, all the while thinking about Grey Lucian, who was someplace he couldn’t find, and the fact that he couldn’t tell if Grey was watching him as he went back to the estate pissed him off. Anyone else would have been in a constant state of fear and worry but not Jeremiah. He believed in his capabilities as a dragon and mage and that he was able to have a calm mind. Plus, he knew that it would take some time for the members of Dark Emblem to be ready enough to attack him so in that meantime he was safe. The future, however, was a different story. For the moment, Jeremiah’s concern was on the issue of the tracking spell Grey had put on him. From the looks of it, Grey might have either been telling the truth or lying through his teeth because no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t sense the magic of the spell on him. Even if he could sense the mana, it would only mean

Jeremiah’s face twitched after hearing Andrews call him his other name. “So you know about my real identity too. That’s interesting” Jeremiah scoffed then did a scan of the other people standing and watching him and Andrews. “That’s a neat trick. Unfortunately, your illusions don’t work on me— not anymore anyway— so it would be better if you just deactivate it and stop wasting mana” Jeremiah said. Andrews looked at the other people on the premises, who smiled at him and Jeremiah, groaned and said “I wonder what changed to make my magic no longer work on you. Is it perhaps that box you won from the auction because it would make sense why you were so interested in it.” Andrews chuckled, returned his gaze to Jeremiah, and continued, “It’s a shame I didn’t see how valuable it was to bid for it. But even if I had, you would have outbid me, wouldn’t you?” Andrews deactivated his illusion magic and everyone on the premises, beside him and Jeremiah, disappeared. “…” Jeremiah refraine

  • CHAPTER 299

Reliving his memories of the auction, Jeremiah started to notice some strange inconsistencies with them like a veil was being lifted off his mind. To be specific, his memories of Andrews and Martha took on a different and clearer light and he realized the truth which was that there was nobody like Martha in the entire auction. However, that didn’t make sense because not only him but the auctioneer and everyone else in the auction house interacted with her so what was going on?Jeremiah was confused and the more his memories of the auction cleared, the more he understood until finally he realized what happened— Martha was never real and was created by an illusion spell to trick not just him but everyone else in the auction. Just as he figured that out and the false memories were cleared off his mind, leaving only the real one, Jeremiah realized that he had figured out the truth before but back when he did, something— the veil as he termed it— covered his mind and made him forget unt

All the salespeople who saw Jeremiah walk past them greeted him because they remembered seeing him go to the auction area with the manager earlier. Then not king after, Jeremiah made it out of the store. He walked over to his motorcycle and got on. However, instead of driving away, he first called Daniel to let him know that he had gotten the ring.He took out his phone from his pocket, woke the screen, and to his surprise he had two missed calls from Daniel that came during the auction.“That’s right, I put my phone on silent mode when I entered the auction house so as not to cause any distractions,” Jeremiah said to himself. The manager had been the one who asked him if his phone was on silent mode and told him to put it on when they entered the auction area. It was a rule of the auction house that all phones were either switched off or on silent mode so they didn’t make noise.Jeremiah quickly deactivated his phone’s silent mode and called Daniel. After ringing for a few seconds,

“Thank you all for coming. We promise to get even better items and invite you guys for an even better experience in the near future. As for those who won the auctioned items, your items will be ready for you when you leave so be sure to get them on your way out.” The auctioneer took a deep breath and sighed— happy with the turnout of the day’s auction as it was the most successful one he had ever hosted.“I have been Evans Nelson, your auctioneer for today and I’ll be seeing you guys really soon,” The auctioneer said, bowed in respect, and walked away while the bidders clapped for him.Since they had accomplished their purpose for being there, everyone started getting up from their seats but instead of leaving like they normally would, they hung around. They talked to each other, discussing the experience they had with that particular auction, while their eyes were discretely on Jeremiah, waiting for the perfect moment to talk to him. They had been planning their approach ever since

“Two hundred million dollars!” Andrew’s words echoed through the entire auction house. “Wow,” the auctioneer said, a strong look of amazement adorned on his face “To think that I wouldn’t even get the chance to call the starting price before it got pushed to such an insane amount. Looks like I can always count on you, Master Andrews, to make this auction very interesting.” Though everyone was annoyed by Andrews's offer, the auctioneer was elated. Since the price had been made to start at two hundred million dollars and he was to get five percent of that, his ten million dollars was already set.Ten million dollars, however, wasn’t enough for the auctioneer. He was greedy— wanting more money—and for that, he had to see if the other bidders were willing to up the price. Martha had said earlier that none of the other bidders should bother bidding when Andrews had taken interest in any of the items being auctioned because he was always going to outbid them and that pissed the auctionee
