“Alright, young master. Try using your core now” Obadiah said as he stood up and placed his hand on Jeremiah’s back.

“Okay, teacher” Jeremiah replied, and then he did just that.

He focused on his mana core and tried contracting it like he would contract his muscles— hoping that it would work.

“That’s it, young master. Just like that” Obadiah said and Jeremiah smiled, happy that what he did was working.

Slowly, Obadiah filtered through the energy Jeremiah’s core produced as he tried identifying the types of magic he could use— or in other words, his mana affinity.

Normally, a mage is proficient in two— sometimes three— types of magic. Then there are the basic spells that all mages can do— no matter the mana affinity. However, because of the human sacrifices Dark Emblem members make, they are able to do spells that normal mages cannot.

An example of this is the Implosion magic that Adam loved to use.

There are some gifted mages like Obadiah who was proficient in four types of magic,

“What do you mean, teacher?” Jeremiah asked.“Grey was hungry for power, beyond what my teaching could ever give him— even in the wicked environment that was Dark Emblem. He started to learn on his own and soon enough he caught up to me in terms of strength but he still wasn’t satisfied” Obadiah said and Jeremiah grimaced in confusion. “But how was that possible?” Jeremiah asked.“What do you mean, young master?” Obadiah asked back.“You have four mana affinities so how could Grey have caught up to you in strength?” He asked. “Remember when I said I’ve only ever met one person in my life, besides you, who had the same amount of mana affinity as me?” Obadiah asked and Jeremiah’s eyes widened.“Wait. Grey was the other person?!” “That’s right, young master” Obadiah nodded his head. “The upside of having a higher number of mana affinity is that it allows you to hone your magic skills faster than other mages—which is why I’m where I am in the ranking of powerful mages. Now, that doesn

The staff was a few feet away from the shaman, and staring at it, Jeremiah realized that he had never seen Obadiah be more than five feet away from his staff, which makes a lot of sense because a tracker-blocking spell has a small area of effect.Obadiah must have created an artifact that has the tracker-blocking spell permanently active so that he doesn’t have to waste time and mana casting the spell himself. As long as he was within the perimeter of the spell's effective range he should be fine because the moment he stepped out of it— accidentally or intentionally— he would be pinpointed by Dark Emblem and they would sure as hell come for him. “It’s those bells on the staff in case you’re wondering,” Obadiah said and Jeremiah’s gaze focused on the jungle bells“Anyway, while concealing myself from their tracking spells, I cast my own spell to hijack their communication channels— which I helped create, hence why I can do it— and I listen for any news on if they have figured out my l

Jeremiah looked at Obadiah and saw how tired the shaman was— making him feel bad because it was the result of trying to help him.“I think we should call it a day for today, teacher,” Jeremiah said.Obadiah exhaled and looked at Jeremiah— feeling lightheaded and a little dizzy. “I think you’re right, young master. I’m completely spent and need to rest” Obadiah said then lowered his head and chuckled. “Looks like I didn’t follow your advice and ended up overexerting myself”Looking at the shaman more intently, Jeremiah groaned.“Are you sure you’re going to be okay, really?” He asked— slight worry in his tone.Obadiah looked at Jeremiah with a confused grimace and asked “What do you mean, young master?” “Last time you looked this tired, it took a couple of days for your body to return to normal. I’m just a little worried that I’ve caused you to regress to that state once again” Jeremiah said, a concerned look on his face.Obadiah’s eyes blinked multiple times.Yes, he knew that Jerem

Jeremiah met up with Obadiah at the greenhouse— the usual location for magic affairs— and they started his training program. The shaman started off with the basis— what was magic and how to turn mana into it.The explanation was very in-depth and thanks to Jeremiah being very intelligent, he was able to understand concepts he was just hearing for the first time. That made Obadiah happy because it meant that he would be able to teach Jeremiah a lot of things by the end of the day.Next, the shaman taught Jeremiah how to control his mana as that was the first step to performing magic. This was the first practical lesson they had so it wasn’t going to be as easy as the theoretical lesson. It took Jeremiah a couple of hours trying to get it down, but in the end he was able to successfully get his mana control down and now was ready to start doing magic.“You did great, young master” Obadiah said with a proud smile.“It’s all thanks to you, teacher” Jeremiah replied.“Now it’s time to te

Jeremiah looked around for a pebble he could use to do the Imprint spell and soon enough he found one.It was the same size and nearly the same shape as the one Obadiah had used in his earlier example— which he had purposely chosen because he didn’t want an excuse for why he failed the spell to be because of something as silly as the build of the pebble. He walked over to where it was and picked it up.Seeing the pebble from the distance, Obadiah said “That’s a good one, young master.”“Thank you, teacher” Jeremiah smirked and then returned to where he used to stand— at which time Obadiah had already found another pebble to use and teach Jeremiah the spell properly.“Do you remember the spell I used to make the imprint, young master?” Obadiah asked. Jeremiah shook his head.“Sorry, teacher. I was confused about what you were doing so I didn’t pay attention until it was too late. Please show me again” He said bashfully.Obadiah smiled.“It’s fine, young master. That’s what I’m here fo

Obadiah couldn’t believe what he had just witnessed.Did Jeremiah really just cast a spell without reciting the words? Which in the world of magic was known as a wordless spell. For years, mages had made fun of movies, shows, and books for inventing the idea of wordless spells because to them it was impossible to achieve the feeling necessary for casting a particular spell without reciting first the words. It was as if a mage’s body—capable of performing a feat as inconceivable as magic—was still limited by the need for words to activate it.So, for Jeremiah, a complete novice, to be able to accomplish what every other mage in the history of mankind couldn’t made Obadiah feel like it was a dream."Obadiah quickly walked up to Jeremiah to get a closer look while the young master went down to pick up the pebble he had just imprinted on. You really must be an excellent learner” Christabel smiled and Jeremiah, who always appreciated the compliment, chuckled. “What were you about to do?” He asked her. “Nothing at all. However, seeing some people already waiting outside for them made him realize why they had gone there. The people in question were the Chancellor, the vice-chancellor, and the chancellor’s secretary. Because of who had more power and authority in that gathering, the Chancellor and his people hurriedly approached Jeremiah and his and bowed their heads.“You must be the king’s son, young master Jeremiah” the chancellor greeted Jeremiah.“Yes, I am.
