Jeremiah looked at everyone around him, seeing their judgmental faces which matched everything they had been saying about him and he glared at Elizabeth who was the cause of it all.

Elizabeth was extremely proud of herself and being able to turn everyone against him.

For no justifiable reason, Jeremiah always managed to make her sick to her stomach so getting others to feel the same way she did about him was an achievement in her terrible and mundane life.

“What’s going on here?” Jeremiah and everyone heard from behind him and they all turned to look at the person who just spoke.

“It’s great that you’re here, madam Deborah,” Elizabeth said, staring past Jeremiah and looking at the woman behind him.

“Is that so? Someone should explain what the hell going on here then. Why is the store in such a state?” Deborah said.

“This bastard over here came to steal from us and I was just about to call the security to come throw him out like the trash he is,” Elizabeth said, making Deborah shift

“Jeremiah paid two hundred and fifty thousand dollars to a mortician before coming here? Huh?” Elizabeth looked at Jeremiah and was dumbfounded. Wasn’t this the same poor and decrepit Jeremiah who couldn’t take her cousin, Mary, on a worthwhile honeymoon because he didn’t have the money? He was so how on earth did he get a quarter of a million dollars to pay for his mother’s body to be prepared for her funeral? Elizabeth felt like she had woken up in an alternate reality where things weren’t how they were supposed to be and she couldn’t accept it.“I’m sorry madam Deborah but I feel like you’re mistaken. I know that guy very well and he definitely couldn’t have done what you said he did” Elizabeth said, smiling nervously. “Are you calling me a liar?” Deborah frowned and Elizabeth jolted. Her eyes also widened, afraid that she had just insulted her boss.“Of course not, madam Deborah. I definitely did not do that” Elizabeth shook her head vigorously. “It’s just that I can’t accept

“What?” Elizabeth asked, her face smeared with confusion. She couldn’t understand why Deborah was insulting her. ‘Am I misunderstanding something? Shouldn’t the insults be hurled at Jeremiah? It should so what the hell was going on here?’ She asked herself but saw that Deborah’s anger and frustration were aimed at her.“W-what did I do, madam?” Elizabeth asked, stuttering every syllable. “I just spoke to Emmanuella Justice and she confirmed that she knows Jeremiah personally. According to her, he is a very nice person and she had such a positive attitude towards him that she told me to give him the best treatment possible. She also said that he didn’t just pay for her mortician services but he paid for the express package. Do you know how much her express package is worth?” Elizabeth gulped.Everyone else in the aisle, who was extremely shocked by what Deborah had just said, was intrigued to know the price of Emmanuella Justice’s express package. “No, madam. How much is it?“ Eliza

People like Deborah were next to impossible to receive forgiveness from once someone got on their bad side because they usually tolerate a lot and are very slow to anger.“I truly am sorry, madam Deborah. This is the only good-paying job I can get with my qualifications so my life will essentially be over if you fire me. I’ve been working here for years, giving my life and energy to make sure the customers are satisfied so please don’t throw me away because of a single incident. I swear it will never happen again” Elizabeth begged desperately.Deborah, who still wasn’t pleased, scoffed.“Instead of begging me, you should be apologizing to Jeremiah for your blatant disrespect. You made him look like a terrible person in front of all these people and me, so the least you could do is beg him for forgiveness but you haven’t which shows you aren’t sorry about what you—“ Deborah said but Elizabeth cut her off.“No, that isn’t the case madam! Of course, I’m sorry for what I did to him. It’s

From what she had heard when she forced her way into Jeremiah’s conversation with Susan and even when he was about to leave when he mentioned Emmanuella Justice’s name, Jeremiah had said that he was there to buy a single dress for his mother’s corpse. The most expensive dress they had on sale was worth seventy thousand dollars, which was roughly Elizabeth’s annual salary as a salesperson. So, would Deborah really choose seventy thousand dollars over her, a salesperson with years of experience and relationship with the customers? It wouldn’t make any sense to do that so things might be in her favor. Elizabeth thought and started to grin internally. Since Jeremiah wasn’t her in-law anymore, their relationship had been terminated, meaning she couldn’t benefit from his newly found wealth so there was nothing for her to gain if Jeremiah was chosen over her. As such, she prefer if he left and died somewhere with all his money. Just then, the other customers in the store started to murm

“How does it look?” Deborah asked, holding the dress in her hands and showing it to Jeremiah. “Hmm” Jeremiah groaned, his hand on his chin as he assessed the dress— trying to imagine his mother’s body in it and wondering if it would look good on her Jeremiah had a really great poker face, so looking at him Deborah wasn’t sure if he liked the dress or not and was worried that he didn’t because of what happened with Elizabeth. Was it that he didn’t like the dress because of how it looked or had the incident with Elizabeth soiled his mood to the point that nothing she showed him would suffice? In that case, all she had done to appease Jeremiah might have been wasted if his mood still hadn’t improved.Deborah just hoped she was reading too much into things and Jeremiah was just trying to decide on his impression of the dress.“Can I hold it and see?” Jeremiah asked and Deborah nodded. She handed him the dress and continued to wait for a positive look from Jeremiah after being in her own

Jeremiah drove to Emmanuella’s funeral home and parked in front. He got off the motorcycle and walked to the building with the bag from Sun-ray’s Delight clothing store in his hand. By the entrance was Dave, the elderly man who had followed him to the hospital to get his mother’s corpse, waiting to welcome him. “You’ve come back and with what I assume is the dress for your mother’s corpse” Dave said, looking at the bag in Jeremiah’s hand. “Yes, it is” Jeremiah replied as he raised the bag and stopped by the entrance. “The Gustav Bulmane Fox dress, just as Emmanuella suggested. So, where is she?” “If you’re asking about the boss then she’s in her office, working on the corpse as promised” Dave said, using his expression to ask Jeremiah if he wanted to go in and see Emmanuella or he was just there to deliver the dress and head back home. Jeremiah’s eyes widened a bit. “Oh. I didn’t think she was going to start working on the corpse immediately I paid for the express servi

The phone rang a few times and then stopped when nobody answered.Jeremiah groaned with dissatisfaction as he stared at the phone screen.“This fool who’s always with his phone suddenly isn’t answering now that I’m the one calling. I wonder what he’s doing that’s keeping him from answering” Jeremiah said.He contemplated calling again but decided against it because if Daniel was anywhere near his phone then he would have answered it when he first called but he didn’t.“Whatever. I’ll just call him tomorrow when I’m sure he will be his—“ Jeremiah said but was interrupted when his phone rang.“This motherfucker” Jeremiah chuckled as he stared at Daniel’s caller ID.He answered the call and then pressed the phone to his ear.[“Where the hell have you been, huh you fool?! Jeremiah and Daniel did what they used to do when they hung out and talked for hours on end about different things.Jeremiah prepared a crate of bears for their enjoyment, and put on a game on the television for them to watch while talking and everything was perfect for their little reunion.Daniel was Jeremiah’s best friend so after talking about different things, he steered the conversation into telling him everything that happened after they last spoke on the night of his one year wedding anniversary. Things like how he had caught Mary cheating on him when he went to Ludwig Resort after his call with Daniel, how the person she cheated with was Paul Ludwig, how Mary told him that she wanted a divorce, and how Paul beat him up and then sent the security to throw him out.Jeremiah also told Daniel about what happened that caused the people of his former apartment to say he beat them up. He told Daniel what the landlord and the other tenants did and how Silver, an unknown military woma

A couple of days later—on Friday—Jeremiah, having just finished his training for the day, during which he made several breakthroughs and worked up a sweat, went to his room to freshen up.Once there, he picked up his phone from the table and called Obadiah’s number.“It’s been multiple days since we last spoke and the funeral is tomorrow so he should be on his way to Bakers View by now” Jeremiah monologued as he waited for the shaman to answer his call. Normally, in a sensitive situation like this, Jeremiah would have used the relic to reach out to Obadiah. However, thinking that the shaman was already on his way to Bakers View, Jeremiah wasn’t sure if he had blended in with the public and was in a place where he couldn’t use the relic—which created a visible hologram of the caller. So, he opted for a phone call instead.Unfortunately, after waiting through the ringing of Obadiah’s phone, the call terminated without being answered. Jeremiah grimaced.“Let me try again,” he said then

“Crimson is in Bakers View?” One of the silhouettes, colored orange said and the others turned to it. “That’s very interesting. Tell us how your encounter went down” The other silhouettes returned their gaze to Grey and waited to hear the story he was going to give— a tale that was very important because it involved their organization’s greatest enemy. Grey went ahead to give the details of how he encountered Jeremiah— doing so in a succinct manner. From their meet-up at the auction house to their altercation behind the Mercury Jewels Jewelry store after Jeremiah had figured out his identity. Every detail gave them a better understanding of who they were messing with. “So there was a relic out there that could counteract your mind control and illusion spells,” said the black silhouette. “That’s insane, considering the fact that you are the most powerful member of Dark Emblem when it comes to mind control and most especially illusion spells,” said the white silhouette. Grey drove all the way to a very expensive hotel somewhere in the city. He parked in front of the entrance and the valet stationed there rushed to the car to greet him. However, instead of waiting outside for him to come out, the valet grabbed the driver-door and opened it for him.“Welcome back, Master Grey” the valet greeted, bowing his head with a massive smile on his face. Grey acted like nothing was said to him— his face unbothered and emotionless as turned his body, indicating that he wanted to step out. “My apologies, Master Grey” The valet moved out of the way, giving Grey the space to step out of the car— which he did. “I hope you had a wonderful outing, Master Grey,” the valet said but was ignored as Grey walked past him. But, from how the valet looked, it didn’t seem like Grey’s behavior affected or deterred him from wanting to please the powerful Dark Emblem mage more. The valet faced the interior of the car and had wanted to enter but saw the portrait and box in whic

Meanwhile, back at the Mercury Jewels Jewelry Shop— at the back where Jeremiah and Grey had their confrontation—two of the staff were there, crouching by the wall and smoking a cigar. It was their break and this was what they usually did.“Damn, today was a really good day. So many customers coming in to buy expensive shit and the day isn’t even over yet. At the rate we’re going, I have a feeling we’ll be getting a pay raise soon” said one of the staff.“It probably has something to do with the auction that took place not too long ago. Business usually booms during it but I hope you’re right ‘cause I really need the extra money. My kid is about to go to college and I want to put him in a really good one that will help him have a bright future” said the second staff. “Speaking of your kid, how is he? He doesn’t visit you as much as he used to in the past” the first staff said.“Yeah. He’s at that age where he doesn’t want to hang out with his old dad anymore but he’s a good kid” “Tha

“Alright, Lynette, what’s the catch to this so-called ability of yours?” Jeremiah asked, his tone hitting his fatigue. [“Since it's an automatic death sentence for the person I'm linked to the moment I die, it means their life ends when my current lifecycle ends—and a new one begins with me being reborn as a newborn.”] Lynette replied and Jeremiah groaned. “So you’re saying that if you manage to go through this battle without getting temporarily killed, Dad will remain alive no matter what for the next thirty-nine years which is when your current cycle ends,” Jeremiah said, his tone extremely skeptical.[“That’s right. I’ve linked with only one person in all my lives and thanks to them I know exactly what this ability is capable of and what its limits are. I and the person in question cannot be unlinked once linked. That’s the price they pay for accepting the link and gaining short-term immortality”]This meant that Lynette couldn’t just link with any random person. They had to know

  • CHAPTER 304

Reginald had to admit that Jeremiah made a lot of sense with what he had said. Things were very dangerous with Dark Emblem knowing Jeremiah’s whereabouts and were going to attack him at any moment. Reginald was already someone they wanted dead— although he wasn’t a priority like Jeremiah and Obadiah were— so it would basically be the same as putting him on a silver platter if he was anywhere near Jeremiah whenever Dark Emblem decided to attack. They would definitely kill him first if the opportunity presented itself. Or worst-case scenario, they would try to use him as a hostage and make Jeremiah unable to attack as strongly as he would have. Granted, the likelihood Dark Emblem does that is very low because they didn’t have a good impression of Lord Crimson and thought he didn’t care about any human being enough for them to work as a hostage against him. However, the fact that Jeremiah risked his life to save everyone at the welcome ceremony, made things different and that narrat

Jeremiah went ahead to tell Reginald, Kingston, and Lynette what happened— the same as he did with Obadiah, shocking them with each detail he gave, and when he was done, they went silent for an extended period before regaining their composure.[“I didn’t think you would be discovered this quickly after moving back to Bakers View, son”] Reginald said and then groaned—pondering what to say next. [“However, now that the cat is out of the bag and they are coming for you, we have no choice but to look for a way forward. With that said, what’s your plan?”] “My plan, huh? Well, it’s very simple. To fight!” Jeremiah said, resolve echoing from his eyes. Reginald chuckled lightly.[“I wouldn’t have expected anything different. In that case, you will be needing help if you hope to survive this. I’m assuming you’ve decided to have Bakers View as the battleground”]“Yes, I do. This is my hometown, where those Dark Emblem assholes caused my mother to get into an accident that put her in a coma w

Jeremiah returned the relic to where he got it from and without wasting any second, he took out his phone from his pocket and called Kingston. After a few seconds, the call was answered. [“Young Master, Jeremiah”] Kingston greeted. “Good afternoon, Kingston,” Jeremiah replied.[“Good afternoon young master. How is your—?”] Kingston said but Jeremiah cut him off.“Before you ask any questions, I want to know if you’re anywhere close to my father,” Jeremiah asked, the urgency in his voice eliciting intrigue in the butler.[“Unfortunately, I’m not in Master Reginald’s presence but he is in the estate”]“That’s good. Now, I want you to go find my father and put me on speaker phone cause there’s something I want to tell the two of you—“ Jeremiah said but was interrupted. Jeremiah walked around the store in a soured mood, arrived at the front, and got on his motorcycle. He drove back home, all the while thinking about Grey Lucian, who was someplace he couldn’t find, and the fact that he couldn’t tell if Grey was watching him as he went back to the estate pissed him off. Anyone else would have been in a constant state of fear and worry but not Jeremiah. He believed in his capabilities as a dragon and mage and that he was able to have a calm mind. Plus, he knew that it would take some time for the members of Dark Emblem to be ready enough to attack him so in that meantime he was safe. The future, however, was a different story. For the moment, Jeremiah’s concern was on the issue of the tracking spell Grey had put on him. From the looks of it, Grey might have either been telling the truth or lying through his teeth because no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t sense the magic of the spell on him. Even if he could sense the mana, it would only mean
