From what she had heard when she forced her way into Jeremiah’s conversation with Susan and even when he was about to leave when he mentioned Emmanuella Justice’s name, Jeremiah had said that he was there to buy a single dress for his mother’s corpse.

The most expensive dress they had on sale was worth seventy thousand dollars, which was roughly Elizabeth’s annual salary as a salesperson. So, would Deborah really choose seventy thousand dollars over her, a salesperson with years of experience and relationship with the customers?

It wouldn’t make any sense to do that so things might be in her favor. Elizabeth thought and started to grin internally.

Since Jeremiah wasn’t her in-law anymore, their relationship had been terminated, meaning she couldn’t benefit from his newly found wealth so there was nothing for her to gain if Jeremiah was chosen over her.

As such, she prefer if he left and died somewhere with all his money.

Just then, the other customers in the store started to murm

“How does it look?” Deborah asked, holding the dress in her hands and showing it to Jeremiah. “Hmm” Jeremiah groaned, his hand on his chin as he assessed the dress— trying to imagine his mother’s body in it and wondering if it would look good on her Jeremiah had a really great poker face, so looking at him Deborah wasn’t sure if he liked the dress or not and was worried that he didn’t because of what happened with Elizabeth. Was it that he didn’t like the dress because of how it looked or had the incident with Elizabeth soiled his mood to the point that nothing she showed him would suffice? In that case, all she had done to appease Jeremiah might have been wasted if his mood still hadn’t improved.Deborah just hoped she was reading too much into things and Jeremiah was just trying to decide on his impression of the dress.“Can I hold it and see?” Jeremiah asked and Deborah nodded. She handed him the dress and continued to wait for a positive look from Jeremiah after being in her own

Jeremiah drove to Emmanuella’s funeral home and parked in front. He got off the motorcycle and walked to the building with the bag from Sun-ray’s Delight clothing store in his hand. By the entrance was Dave, the elderly man who had followed him to the hospital to get his mother’s corpse, waiting to welcome him. “You’ve come back and with what I assume is the dress for your mother’s corpse” Dave said, looking at the bag in Jeremiah’s hand. “Yes, it is” Jeremiah replied as he raised the bag and stopped by the entrance. “The Gustav Bulmane Fox dress, just as Emmanuella suggested. So, where is she?” “If you’re asking about the boss then she’s in her office, working on the corpse as promised” Dave said, using his expression to ask Jeremiah if he wanted to go in and see Emmanuella or he was just there to deliver the dress and head back home. Jeremiah’s eyes widened a bit. “Oh. I didn’t think she was going to start working on the corpse immediately I paid for the express servi

The phone rang a few times and then stopped when nobody answered.Jeremiah groaned with dissatisfaction as he stared at the phone screen.“This fool who’s always with his phone suddenly isn’t answering now that I’m the one calling. I wonder what he’s doing that’s keeping him from answering” Jeremiah said.He contemplated calling again but decided against it because if Daniel was anywhere near his phone then he would have answered it when he first called but he didn’t.“Whatever. I’ll just call him tomorrow when I’m sure he will be his—“ Jeremiah said but was interrupted when his phone rang.“This motherfucker” Jeremiah chuckled as he stared at Daniel’s caller ID.He answered the call and then pressed the phone to his ear.[“Where the hell have you been, huh you fool?! I tried reaching out after that stuff we talked about on the night of your one-year wedding anniversary but no answer. Then I went to your place to check up on you and I was told that you’ve been kicked out for attacking

Jeremiah and Daniel did what they used to do when they hung out and talked for hours on end about different things.Jeremiah prepared a crate of bears for their enjoyment, and put on a game on the television for them to watch while talking and everything was perfect for their little reunion.Daniel was Jeremiah’s best friend so after talking about different things, he steered the conversation into telling him everything that happened after they last spoke on the night of his one year wedding anniversary. Things like how he had caught Mary cheating on him when he went to Ludwig Resort after his call with Daniel, how the person she cheated with was Paul Ludwig, how Mary told him that she wanted a divorce, and how Paul beat him up and then sent the security to throw him out.Jeremiah also told Daniel about what happened that caused the people of his former apartment to say he beat them up. He told Daniel what the landlord and the other tenants did and how Silver, an unknown military woma

“What? You don’t want to be my best man or something?” He asked.“No, that’s not it”“Then what is it? Replying “Fuck” with such a tone and look after I gave you such wonderful news doesn’t seem very appropriate if you ask me,” Daniel said.Jeremiah smacked his tongue exasperatedly.“There, you’ve done it again. What’s the matter with you?” Daniel asked, gradually getting annoyed by Jeremiah’s response to the news. “I was going to let it go but you just had to go and make me your best man. Now it looks like I have no choice but to get involved”“What the hell are you talking about talking about? You have no choice but to get involved in what?” Daniel grimaced.“Your family ring. I’m left with no choice but to help you get it”“Huh?” Daniel’s eyes widened. “What do you mean help me get it?” “Exactly what I said. I’ll find it for you, wherever it is, and it’s going to be the ring you engage Rachael with, just as was intended by your ancestors” Daniel almost fell out of his chair afte

A few minutes later, Jeremiah came to a stop in front of the Jewelry Store which to his surprise looked very busy with all the cars he saw parked in front. However, that wasn’t his concern so he ignored all of them and headed to the entrance of the jewelry store. He grabbed the door, read the sign which said push to open and he pushed with a good amount of strength but to his surprise, the door didn’t budge. Because he had expected the door to open when he pushed, Jeremiah had also stepped forward but since the door didn’t open as anticipated, he almost bumped into it and would have if not thanks to his quick reflexes. “What the hell? It’s locked? I thought it was supposed to be open by this time?” Jeremiah grimaced with annoyance. He tried pushing the door again but it didn’t open then he looked at the sign on the door and saw that he was pushing the door in the right direction which only meant that the door was locked.Jeremiah groaned in annoyance and let go of the handle. He observed the person closely when they opened the door and he saw the manager's title on the name tag on their chest.“Are you Mr. Jeremiah?” The manager asked while panting.Jeremiah groaned as he stuffed his hands into his pockets, making a face to show that he was a little annoyed about the door being locked, and then said “Yes I am and you’re the manager, right?”The manager followed Jeremiah’s eyes and saw that he was staring at his name tag.“Yes, I am. Anyway, I’m terribly sorry for keeping you outside like this. I just got a call from the owner who first yelled at me and then ordered me to let you in so I hope you’re not offended by the delay, sir” The manager, who seemed very nervous as he had his head lowered to avoid eye contact, said to Jeremiah.“I was honestly pissed off at first but now that you’ve apologized, I’m good,” Jeremiah said and the manager sighed discretely.“That’s good to hear, sir” The manager moved out of the way and gestured that Johnathan goes in. “Pl

The manager took Jeremiah to a different area inside the Jewelry store and this place was a showroom just like the one they had left but from the design it was obviously a showroom meant for the elites— those who can afford the pieces there.Jeremiah did a quick scan and couldn’t feel any ounce of magic from any of the jewelry, letting him know that they weren’t at the right place yet. That feeling was also supported when the manager started leaving their current location and Jeremiah followed along.“I know they look amazing but don’t bother yourself with these mediocre stones, sir. It’ll only be a fruitless waste of time as they won’t be able to satisfy your search.” The manager said with a grin and Jeremiah who had the same sentiment was silent. The manager, however, still had some things to add.“For a man of your caliber— someone who made my boss, the owner of this great establishment call and instruct me to see that you get whatever request you have taken care of speedily and ef

All the salespeople who saw Jeremiah walk past them greeted him because they remembered seeing him go to the auction area with the manager earlier. Then not king after, Jeremiah made it out of the store. He walked over to his motorcycle and got on. However, instead of driving away, he first called Daniel to let him know that he had gotten the ring.He took out his phone from his pocket, woke the screen, and to his surprise he had two missed calls from Daniel that came during the auction.“That’s right, I put my phone on silent mode when I entered the auction house so as not to cause any distractions,” Jeremiah said to himself. The manager had been the one who asked him if his phone was on silent mode and told him to put it on when they entered the auction area. It was a rule of the auction house that all phones were either switched off or on silent mode so they didn’t make noise.Jeremiah quickly deactivated his phone’s silent mode and called Daniel. After ringing for a few seconds,

“Thank you all for coming. We promise to get even better items and invite you guys for an even better experience in the near future. As for those who won the auctioned items, your items will be ready for you when you leave so be sure to get them on your way out.” The auctioneer took a deep breath and sighed— happy with the turnout of the day’s auction as it was the most successful one he had ever hosted.“I have been Evans Nelson, your auctioneer for today and I’ll be seeing you guys really soon,” The auctioneer said, bowed in respect, and walked away while the bidders clapped for him.Since they had accomplished their purpose for being there, everyone started getting up from their seats but instead of leaving like they normally would, they hung around. They talked to each other, discussing the experience they had with that particular auction, while their eyes were discretely on Jeremiah, waiting for the perfect moment to talk to him. They had been planning their approach ever since

“Two hundred million dollars!” Andrew’s words echoed through the entire auction house. “Wow,” the auctioneer said, a strong look of amazement adorned on his face “To think that I wouldn’t even get the chance to call the starting price before it got pushed to such an insane amount. Looks like I can always count on you, Master Andrews, to make this auction very interesting.” Though everyone was annoyed by Andrews's offer, the auctioneer was elated. Since the price had been made to start at two hundred million dollars and he was to get five percent of that, his ten million dollars was already set.Ten million dollars, however, wasn’t enough for the auctioneer. He was greedy— wanting more money—and for that, he had to see if the other bidders were willing to up the price. Martha had said earlier that none of the other bidders should bother bidding when Andrews had taken interest in any of the items being auctioned because he was always going to outbid them and that pissed the auctionee

Hearing the murmurs being made about the Black card made the auction staff who Jeremiah had handed it to become conscious of the fact that he was holding such an important and valuable item. “Holy shit! I’m holding the Sentry Bank Black card in my hand right now,” the staff member said internally, doing his best to maintain composure. However, it proved to be quite a challenge, as his hand trembled from the nerves acting up.“Hello?” Jeremiah snapped his finger in front of the staff’s face, bringing him back to reality after he seemed to have been lost in his own world for some seconds“Any time today please” Jeremiah grimaced, then shifted his gaze to the card payment machine in the staff’s hand as a silent way of telling him to process the payment he was there for.“I’m terribly sorry about that, sir.” the staff said hurriedly then started preparing the transaction. He keyed in ten million dollars into the card payment machine and then inserted Jeremiah’s debit card inside. All th

Huh?” The auctioneer said, acting and sounding surprised as he looked at the content of the box twice to make sure he hadn’t made a mistake. ‘Why is a plastic eyeball in here?’ The auctioneer thought.Just then, a commotion erupted as the bidders complained, letting their frustrations and anger known. “A plastic eye? What the hell?” One of the bidders said.“Is this some kind of joke? We waited through all that bullshit just for a fucking plastic eyeball?! Do we look like children or something?” Another bidder complained. “Is that what we are expected to pay ten million dollars for? A stinking plastic eyeball?! Since when did this auction start doing comedy shows between the presentations?”“Whosever idea this is better get fired for pissing us off ‘cause what the actual fuck?! In fact, bring them out here so I can give them a piece of my mind!”The auctioneer panicke

The auctioneer wasted no time to open the box but when he tried to do it, he realized that he couldn’t.“What the?” He asked himself, grimacing with confusion. “Maybe I didn’t do it right. Let me try again” He tried to open the box again but like before the lid wouldn’t budge and the auctioneer started to get annoyed.“What’s going on here? Didn’t they say that it wasn’t going to be locked so why can’t I open it?” He complained in a low voice, making sure the microphone attached to his ear couldn’t pick up what he was saying, then he looked at the bidders who were starting to have concerned expressions. The auctioneer could see the bidders' already minimal interest in the mystery item gradually vanish, which lit a spark in him to fix the situation as quickly as possible.“Hey,” the auctioneer turned his head to the left and called to the staff who had given him the box. “Yes, sir?” The staff shifted closer to the auctioneer."I remember vividly being told that the freaking box would

Jeremiah had his hand on his chin.He focused on what was under the cloth and tried using his heightened senses to see if he could figure out anything about it besides the fact that it was a box. With his hearing, which was greater than a bat’s, Jeremiah had what could only be described as radar— the type used in science fiction movies to know exactly what something was just by sound alone.“Huh?” Jeremiah said after he had tried using his radar as best as he could but realized that it wasn’t working.Well, not that it wasn’t working as he could picture everything else in the area that wasn’t in his field of vision with the radar but the item underneath the cloth that was to be auctioned was undeterminable.‘What’s this? Why can’t my senses pick up anything?’ Jeremiah asked himself, finding it very strange. He focused even harder, using the fullest range of his radar, which allowed him to have what could only be called omniscience as he could perceive everything in the room, but stil

“For the next item, I have to inform everyone that there’s a little treat or should I say catch to it as that’s the correct term to use here,” The auctioneer said and the other bidders groaned in confusion as complaints flew everywhereUsually, all the rules are given at the start of the auction so why was the auctioneer trying to bring something new now? The bidders wondered and weren’t appreciative of what was happening.“What exactly do you mean by that?” One of the other bidders asked just as the worker with the item to be auctioned stepped forward.“First of all Master Xavier, I know that this is very unconventional but the client that provided us with this item explicitly instructed that we should start the bidding price at ten million dollars. The second thing they requested is that we give it to the first person who makes a bid for it which means that there isn’t going to be a competition for who can pay the most as whoever raises their paddle first wins the item. We are also

All the other bidders squeezed their paddles furiously and growled at the disrespect they just received. How dare a young lady like Martha talk to elderly men who ranged from a few years to some decades older than her like that?Besides Jeremiah, she was the youngest person in the room but at the same time, she had the gull to speak so confidently. Was she looking down on them just because her master spent thirty million dollars on a quill? How Ludacris of her to have this level of hubris they thought. They will show her what they are made of… was what they all had in mind as they turned away from her to face the auctioneer and went ahead to make their counteroffers. Each counteroffer was with an addition of one to three million dollars and every time someone counter-offered, the auctioneer would state Andrew’s automatic counteroffer of an additional five hundred thousand dollars to the last called amount. Anytime he does that, the other bidders would look at Martha to see if she has
