‘Please, please, please, let this work,” David thought as he groveled at Jeremiah’s feet.

If there was an award for the most desperate person on the planet, then David, for sure, was going to win it by a landslide.

“Whatever you want, cousin Jeremiah, I promise that I’ll give it to you!” David said desperately and Jeremiah grimaced.

“How can you, someone who is asking something of me, going to give me something I want in return?” Jeremiah asked, and David raised his head to look at him.

“In case you haven’t noticed already, I don’t really need anything from anyone. I mean, do you think I would have asked you if you wanted to be the future king if I wanted anything?” Jeremiah said, and David’s eyes blinked rapidly.

He realized just how stupid he was to have said what he did.

What on earth could he even have hoped to give Jeremiah in return for handing the kingship over to him?
